I definitely think you made the right choice by choosing SPPG. It's a good thing Munk and SPPG are amalgamating this fall! I'd imagine you'd have a greater opportunity of shaping your MPP education with a transnational lens. Side-note: I was pretty excited by the news that the school was now going to be called the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Sounds fancy, eh? Yeah, let's do it!
-
I applied to Munk and SPPG for two very different reasons. The primary thrust behind my application to Munk was an interest in international peace and security and I'd ideally like to pursue conflict analysis/resolution as a career stream if I were to choose Munk. My application to the SPPG, by contrast, was motivated by an interest to immerse myself in issues related to automation and the job displacement/losses that occur (or will occur) as a result of its encroachment in blue and white collared jobs. I can't really definitively say I'm leaning toward one over the other at this point. How about you? Did you apply elsewhere? Any particular reason you chose SPPG?
-
Thanks for this, JJ! If you don't mind, may I ask what made you choose Munk despite having to pay sticker? Did you apply to any other programs? Edit: More importantly, do you think the investment/debt load was worth it? What has your experience with the career services been like? Does your cohort share a similar view as yours?

About the same. Need to do some soul searching over the next few days/weeks. It's a real tough decision.
-
Tell me about it! I've been accepted to Munk as well, and I'm having a hard time choosing between the two schools at this point. Going to be meeting/talking to a few people and probably be making a final decision within the next couple of weeks. It's so much more difficult when you know you can't go wrong with either choice.

It's a combination of your references, grades, resume and personal statement, if I'm not wrong. Are you going to be accepting your offer?
-
Congratulations! I think this is the first time I've come across $7k funding. Are you a domestic student? Also, I'd like to know about the Facebook group too!

@lily22 I'll shoot you a PM later today. If anyone else is interested in knowing my stats, feel free to PM me. Anyone know how many people applied this year? Given that acceptances started way back in mid-February and the class filled up by mid-March, I feel as though they recieved an abnormally large number of applicantions.

Oh, just to pacify some anxiety, I should add - my Acorn still reflects nothing under degree registration status. I got accepted to the MPP program at U of T as well, and it's the same case there. So, don't fret if your Acorn continues to reflect nothing. Edit: SGS status for the MGA reads "Under Review" as well.

Just the 3K that's offered at the time of admission. Are there additional scholarships that we can expect from the school?
-
It's about a 50-50 split, I believe.

Thanks! I wonder if they've sent out all the first round of acceptances today. Going to double check with the admissions committee.
-
Congratulations! When did you receive the email (i.e., around what time)? Edit: did your SGS and/or Acorn status change too?
-
Congrats to those who received offers! Thanks for relaying the information @sunshine18! I'm assuming majority of us should expect to hear back by next week then?

Congratulations! This is pretty surprising news. I don't think I've seen any past threads with an acceptance to the MGA-only program this early.

Thanks for the heads up, Pound Cake! Current applicants - have you had any changes to your online status? Mine still reflects "Under Review". Past threads seem to indicate that acceptances typically come out closer to the 15th.

Definitely seriously considering Queen's at the moment too. It's both economical (in terms of time and money) and well established. I'm waiting on responses from the MPP and MGA programs too, and haven't quite ordered my preferences in terms of which school I'd like to attend yet. For now, Queen's is a highly attractive choice. Also, I've been searching up on alumni from the program, and the more I dig into it, the more inclined I feel to attend Queen's, haha. On a related note, March 15th feels a wee bit early to accept/decline the offer. I'm not entirely sure if I would've heard back from the other schools by then.
-
like Skerr, my deadline's on the 15th of next month with a deposit to be paid by June 1st. thanks! Is Queen's your first choice?
-
Yeap, can absolutely increase. However, I believe you'd have to accept the offer in order to receive further details on your funding. You could always call/email to inquire if there's a way around that. Also, congratulations!
