idk I feel like it’s pretty classist to say that someone who is wearing a sweater over a suit should be looked down upon. like I think that type of thinking veers into dangerous territories where individuals are blamed for their inabilities to have things that signal material wealth when theoretically all applicants should be taken for who they are.
I don’t think anyone should have to cater to standards of respectability because often times those standards of respectability have been used to police and silence different racialized, gendered, and other marginalized bodies so like using that as a determining factor of what someone brings to the table is pretty fucked up in my opinion (granted i don’t belong to an admissions committee but still)

I feel like it is these types of superficial comments that would immediately discourage me from wanting to accept an offer from a program. I think I would be more embarrassed for the current grad students making those comments - I mean what kind of full grown adult working towards a doctorate makes catty comments about a student's clothes?
On another note (not that it matters much, as my clothes shouldn't be part of my application for so many different reasons). I did just come back from an interview day, and I was the only person there wearing a suit. I guess I would be considered the one who "stood out".

I also got an invitation for Counseling Psych! This will be my first time going to New York, so I'm pretty excited as a whole Has anyone heard anything about what the interview process is like for this school? I haven't been able to find much info on the Psych forum.

Hello, the waitlist post wasn't me, but I am inclined to say that all of the invites for the formal on-campus interview have been sent out, as they are currently in the process of assigning housing/student hosts for Interview Day.

is anyone else losing morale because you haven't heard anything yet, but other people who have applied to the same program have had interview invitations extended from a different POI than yours?
should i just save myself the emotional investment and assume this more than likely means I got rejected, or is there still hope?

Hey all! Thanks again for everyone who offered encouragement after I was super worried about my shaky phone interview. If you wanted an update: I received an email yesterday with an invite for the onsite interview, stating they were very impressed with my phone interview, haha. I guess you never really know what they're thinking or looking for!
Interview is for UMD College Park in February.

Thanks for the information and reassurance <3
I applied via the counseling psych phd program in the department of education so maybe the timeline may be different. Good luck to you as well

I had a skype interview with my POI at UMD last month but was not officially invited to an interview at the school. However, my POI informed me that interviews for my program (Developmental) would likely be sent out towards the middle/end of January. They also said that the developmental program is one of the later programs to make these decisions as compared to CNS. I'm sorry you're feeling the pressure but I don't think by any means it is too late for you. Keep holding on to hope! Good luck!!!
