  1. Thanks this was really helpful, I know I am have the excitement of 6 years of work in a field I love and I look forward to teaching/advancing the research, so that tells me it's something about the program + the normal "do I really want to do this" working together. I wish the application process wasn't such a drag. I feel like that would make this process so much easier.
  2. The idea of attending a Clinical Psych PhD still gets me excited. But not sure about these programs... I wrote off the other program because while I was really excited about their research, their funding was not ensured for anything beyond the first year, which is a huge factor for me. The idea of having to hunt down funding sources while working toward the PhD, while not rare, add yet another stressor to a ~6 year commitment. I think that my perception is also tainted because I have completed an MA in an ivy league where PhD students are really well taken care off. Your experience was really helpful, you captured exactly where I stand. I was excited going to the interview and writing about the POI I want to work with but the program itself left me feeling meh. And if a call comes for that other program I feel like I would have to fake the excitement. "Don't force yourself to attend a program, its a long commitment." : Agree 100%, but I hope that turning down schools this cycle doesn't damage my chances for the next. I don't think these programs are my dream/best fit programs,
  3. Has anyone found that they have more questions than excitement about a program? I interviewed at 2 programs, one I am yet to hear from one and the other one I received an unofficial acceptance. The program with the unofficial acceptance, I feel like I left without a sense of "this is it for me" and I wonder if this is normal? When people interviewed what did you feel when you were heading back home? I wonder if I got my hopes up too much and thats why things felt less exciting. The more I talk to family about this, the more I get the sense that they are ready for me to be done with school which also makes me wonder if this is having an influence over my perception .... I guess I am curious about others experiences with the process. Is this a sign that the program I'm waiting for is just not for me? I know I wan the PhD I know what my career goals are, I just wonder how you are supposed to know that this is the program for you.... I guess you can say I have entered a minor existential crisis.
  4. Not necessarily, one of the places I interviewed while a Clinical Psychology Program, has taken over a month to make decisions since interviews and they have decision day coming up in two weeks (1 month 2 weeks since interviews). Each program is different. With that said, you may very well be on a wait list but that doesn't mean all hope is lost! A lot of applicants who have an acceptance in one program have other offers into other ones, so you could very well get a call/email on decision day. Good Luck :).
  5. I am actually very uncertain what is going on with TC so maybe someone else can address that. There may be hope for this one! UCLA: My colleague had an interview invite in January and the interviews were conducted earlier this month. Based on the results page one of the admissions already went out. Here is this link that may have a status check for your application, though they usually don't send non-interview rejections until like March: https://appstatus.grad.ucla.edu/Account/AppStatus.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fAccount%2fLogin.aspx Don't get discouraged if you get an outcome other than an interview/rejection for those two programs, they are some of the most competitive programs and theres many factors that go into interview invites. Good Luck!
  6. Has anyone who has interviewed left a program with more questions than answers? I just attended an interview and I must admit that I was expecting to leave a Clinical Psychology Interview with more excitement than I did. Maybe this means this isn't the program for me, but even after having asked my interviewees my main questions, I feel that I still have so many questions. Specifically around the stability of funding and mentor/program support of students while they are in the program. Thoughts?
  7. Same with mine for the PhD, would you mind PMing me if you find anything out? Here you go (I think this is right, I took it from the website) Jamie Walkup CHAIR, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL TRAINING PHONE: 212-518-3091 EMAIL: walkup@gsapp.rutgers.edu
  8. Has anyone who has an interview with CUNY - City College heard from the department about the specifics of who they will interview with?
  9. Heres my take on this: I have taken the GRE's 3x and the outcome is the same - terrible. I do believe my GREs are got got in the way of me having been called for interviews. I have 2 interviews out of 8 applications, but I have been in research for 6 years, managed a lab for 2 years (in between undergraduate and graduate school), have presented in many conferences and yet the GREs still impacted my application significantly. I am doing an MA at an Ivy League and I have a 4.0, I don't think my GRE predicted that accurately ;). However, I KNOW that taking the GRE again won't improve my score too drastically unless I do nothing but study for a few months (I don't have that ability/financial luxury). I would ask your current mentor/POI/letter writer about the best way to communicate to this POI that you have taken in a few times and its not a reflection of your academic performance or something along those lines. Think of it as a negotiation letter when you have a job offer, or that they have told you that you are the second candidate they are considering, and you need to make a hell of a case for yourself. She contacted you for a reason, she seems to be fighting for you against a stubborn committee (as they all are) that is fixated on GRE performance. Good luck!
  10. On the results page, three people reported getting a call from the department/POI (1/23 & 1/24). I assume that they may do another day or two of calls (like UCLA did). UCSD/SDSU appears to historically let people know about rejections shortly after calls started. Best of luck! Hopefully you get a call in the next day or so.
  11. Same! Was this a mass email or an individual email from the POI?
  12. Has anyone heard from: UCSD/SDSU JDP Teachers College
