  1. The downside of HKS that everyone will tell you about is that they are very selective when it comes to funding. Since you have been chosen for a full ride, I don‘t see why you would choose WWS. Networks and job market look similarly good but name recognition swings significantly in Harvard‘s favor. Is there maybe someone among the faculty at either school you care about? That could make the decision easier perhaps. by the way: Congratulations! Winning CPL is huge!
  2. i wish you all a happy, healthy and successful life, no matter what your CV says in the end, Harvard or not, it doesn’t really matter for a good life. So, chins up, tomorrow will be a new day. Peace!
  3. See you tomorrow guys #NutellaNite
  4. Likewise!
  5. four hours thirtytwo minutes. I can't take it anymore. Gimme the 'sults!
  6. Since they skipped multiple posts this year and mostly only did the inevitable ones, my best guess is: results today. Four-five hours and we all will be the wiser.
  7. There isn't. It is a prognosis based on previous years' publication patterns (always second Wednesday in March, always one day after "admitted" posting, etc.)
  8. Results on Wednesday. I hope I am getting extrapoints from Matt for being the first to guess the release date right By the way, am I the only one to have nightmares about being rejected by accident? I mean, they are reading names and someone clicks on admitted, waitlisted or rejected. Imagine your name being read as #536 at 11 p.m. on a Friday. All it takes is someone to jump a line in the spreadsheet and someone else to be too tired to notice. How is that not a prototype for how to ruin someone's admission? Argh!!
  9. Waitlist posting tomorrow, some random filler on Monday, admitted posting on Tuesday and results on Wednesday
  10. I assume admissions and financial aid are working independently this year to speed up the process. I think Matt and his team decide who should be admitted and the financial aid compile a list of their own independently from the admissions crew. So, I decided not to be worried by changes to the status page.
  11. I stick with my March 14 prediction, even though folks got me all excited in the meantime for a release this week but after a day of contemplation, I stay with my earlier thesis. Matt likes structure and in the past years they regularly released on the second Wednesday of March. I listed some other points in an earlier post. They won‘t break their pattern. I’m putting my money down. March 14.
  12. Thank you for a place to vent! I am currently extremely swinging between moods. Last night, as I lay in my bed, I was convinced, absolutely convinced, I literally knew, that I was going to be rejected. Today, I am browsing housing options again, making my way from my amazing academic slash party loft to class, grabbing coffee at my go-to spot on the way and already tasting the morning bagel in my mouth. I need a xanax.
  13. That would be nice but I only believe it, when I see it.
  14. Wednesday, March 14. I'm telling you.
  15. My anxiety levels are skyrocketing. I caught myself browsing through Harvard housing pages and daydreaming about student life. Damn you, work me, we had an agreement!
  16. I seriously considered sending him an anonymous bouquet from all of us at Gradcafe but I fear that they might see that as an attempt to unduly influence our #1 Director of Admissions...
  17. Indeed, he just reposted his blog entry from March 7, 2014 and used the wrong year in the title (again). This means a) we are still over a week from results away and b) Matt is either extremely stressed right now (it was either a planned posting or he stayed up very late) and/or is less motivated to post than he was in previous years. In any case: I feel your pain Matt! You are doing great work and all of us are really thankful for it. I propose sending him a card or flowers, anyone else up for it?
  18. I am also very curious to find out whether I will spend almost two years in New England or not but just to bolster my crazy ass theory: I do not think that we will receive results next week, yet hope to be wrong. The hints: 1. For the last few years, they have always released decisions on the second Wednesday of March. That would be March 14 this year. 2. It is not uncommon for HKS to release that late. In fact, they have released as late as March 18 within the last six years (see the admission blog's archive). 3. There is a specific sequence of posts on the blog before they release results. It begins with an introduction to the three categories (not admitted, waitlisted, admitted) and takes at least three posts, i.e. days. As of March 1st, they still have to begin this countdown of blog postings, which starts at least four days prior to decisions day (D-Day) and began last year (results released on March 8) on February 27. 4. They are not that fast. Last year, it took them 96 days to read, assess and decide from the applications deadline to D-Day. That would mean a release on March 11 (today is the 86th day since closing of applications), ceteris paribus. So, I feel and share your pain and anxiety but we shouldn't get too excited for a release next week when D-Day could very well be two weeks away.
  19. It’s March 7 or March 14 (see my earlier Roswell-themed posting) but only for Master‘s programs. Admitted PhDs get a call but I don‘t know anything of the schedule there since it’s handled through GSAS.
  20. As far as I know, all admitted PhD students get a free ride plus a stipend. They are also admitted through Harvard GSAS (not HKS) which is significantly better endowed, I believe. Getting into that program is, however, significantly harder than MPP/MPA etc. as the legend goes.
  21. I certainly hope so but on this very day one year ago, Matt had already published ten of in the end 20 posts on the "Reading and Decision Process". Since he mostly copy&pastes old posts in that category, I assume that we will - again - end up at 20+ posts this year. Our current posting is number seven. The implication being, that he delays posting in that category this year which might be due to the significantly later d-day. Maybe my theory is only born from a dangerous mixture of boredom and anxiety but the evidence is there! (#panicnow #tinfoilhat)
  22. Regarding the day of decisions, I have analyzed (=read) what Matt wrote in previous years and they have consistently released results on the second Wednesday in March (at least the last five years, I believe). So, while the results came out last year on March 8, we will suffer a setback by six days, since the second Wednesday is March 14 this year. That is, if my analysis is correct.
  23. I'm sorry, I will not be able to grade your essays but my advise would be to write one timed essay every morning before going to work/school and comparing it with the graded sample essays. I did this for a while and was able to increase my score from a 3-4 to a 4.5 in my final GRE results. It really helps more if you notice yourself where your writing is wanting by comparing them with 5- or 6-graded essays than have someone else just tell you their observations.
  24. I only studied using the Magoosh app and also wrote the vocabulary down on actual flashcards. Since I work fulltime, I studied for about two-three hours each night for about two months. To check on my progress, I did all the GRE online tests (2 free + 2 purchased). In the end, I did very well and scored 165 on the verbal part of the test. What helped me much in studying was reading books that included lots of difficult vocabulary and trying to use the newly learned words in conversations (whenever I had a conversation in English)
  25. I hear only good things about Vault 75 in Malden!
