  1. Congrats on your acceptance!! I am not sure what that means, but maybe it has to do with partial funding. If you don't mind sharing, what concentration (interest area) at UNC did you apply for?
  2. Hopefully this is the actual date! It seems like UNC typically reaches out to people at this point. I am starting to compulsively check Grad Cafe!
  3. I'm in the same boat as you. Fingers crossed for some good news in the next couple weeks!
  4. Hi everyone. I applied to PhD epi programs last year but didn't receive any offers with funding, so here I am again this year! I have several years of experience in epidemiology, several publications, and have lead research studies. But for the life of me, I cannot improve my GRE scores! I recently put in many, many hours of studying and received scores just above the 70th percentile in both verbal and quant even though my target was above the 80th percentile in each respective category. That being said, does anyone have an idea if top programs (Hopkins, Harvard, UNC, UMichigan) will accept people with these scores?
  5. Thanks so much - this is really helpful. How specific did you all go into the research you wanted to do? I know it's important to have a clear vision, but also don't want to get overly specific to avoid becoming too narrow to match with faculty.
  6. Congrats to everyone accepted this year! As someone applying for next year, do you guys have any general recommendations to prepare my application? How many people identify and communicated with professors before applying? Thanks!
  7. Good to know. Thanks for the response. I'm trying to reach out to the programs to identify where my weak spots were and hopefully improve for next years application cycle. I did apply to only top schools, so that could be something to do with it. It could also be my area of interest within epidemiology, which may see heavy funding cuts in the near future. That is pretty terrible about that person's recommendation letters! I hope that didn't happen in my case. I think they would have all been strong, but maybe I'm wrong!
  8. Officially rejected from 5/5 schools. I have several first author publications, great recommendations, and solid work experience, but think my GRE scores must have been the deciding factor (just below 70th percentile for Quant and Verbal). Has anyone else had a similar experience and re-applied the next cycle? Any suggestions?
  9. Yup, still waiting on ID or Environmental Epi. Haven't heard a peep.
  10. I'm curious whether or not the ID group did any interviews for PhD applicants. I'm assuming that the release of results are done by program area.
  11. Ah, sorry to hear that. Hopefully, some other good news comes your way soon!
  12. Same here! It's very nerve wracking. I saw some people had interviews in early January and haven't heard a word, so I was getting nervous. I'm really curious about how many people will be admitted without an interview (hopefully that's us)! Best of luck to you!
  13. Does anyone know if UNC interviews most of their potential applications before admission for the PhD in epidemiology program?
