  1. Unless you have another offer that requires a reply before March 15th I wouldn’t contact. I’m in the same situation and it’s annoying but I’m waiting and following the results page to see if anyone got a reply.
  2. This was really helpful, I was looking for a tax calculator. I'm trying to check rent prices for both cities, and also groceries and this kind of things. Thanks for sharing the things I should account for.
  3. I'm guessing school 2 is Iowa State, so I'm commenting just to follow the thread cause I have the same doubt. Best,
  4. Hi everybody Grads and non-grads, I'm going to tell my story but I think this post might help other people too I have been admitted to my first option of university (YEY) but I am not sure if the stipend they offering me will be enough to cover my living expenses. So, first set of questions: - Do you know any websites that show reliable information about cost of living in different cities in the US? - Besides rent what else should I take into account when assessing the cost of living in each city? I have already talked to people in the Program but I've been getting some mixed information about renting there. Meanwhile, I have also been admitted to my second option which is offering me more $$$ to go there. - How important is the stipend when choosing a university do your PhD?
  5. Yes, my focus is on Corpus Linguistics analysis and I think both programs are pretty strong on that. I'm an international student from Brazil, right now I'm at UNL teaching Portuguese. Def keeping my fingers crossed for our applications
  6. OMG University of Hawaii is awesome!!! Congrats! I submitted my application to NAU late January as well, I almost gave up cause it was my last application and I was so tired of writing SOP's and tuition waivers, etc. My interview with GSU was on Monday last week, so you probably will be called for an interview soon as well - fingers crossed. What are your research interests, I'm guessing we must have something in common since we are applying for the same Programs.
  7. How important do you think is this R1 and R2 thing? I got admitted into NAU which has a pretty strong Applied Linguistics dept but they are R2, I also got admitted at ISU where the AL dept is not that strong but they are an R1. I don't know what to take into consideration the department or the whole university.
  8. Hi Bailey I applied to Norther Arizona University : Applied Linguistics Admitted - I was interviewed by two professors, one of them I am interested in working with. Iowa State University: Applied Linguistics and Technology - Admitted - I was also interviewed by two professors none of them I am interested in working with. Georgia State: Applied Linguistics - Waiting - I was interviewed by two professors, one of them I am interested in working with. University of Nebraska: Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education - Admitted Umass Boston: Applied Linguistics - Waiting for their decision University of Arizona: SLAT - Waiting for their decision Umass Amherst: Language, literature and Culture: waiting for their decision What are your options so far? By the way are you the person with whom I have been kind of messaging in the NAU results page?
  9. Trying to revive this topic I've got accepted in the PhD program at NAU and right now I'm considering my options that's why I wanted to know how much do people pay in rent at Flagstaff usually? What is the average cost of living? Also any advice on how to search for apartments or roommates?
  10. Hi Guys I was wondering who else applied for PhDs in Applied Linguistics dept for this fall? I have applied to some Programs and have received decisions from 3 of them, it would be nice to have some people in the same situation to talk to.
