  1. I did not get an interview. They said that I have potential to succeed in the program but due to the qualifications of other applicants, they will reach out for a Skype interview if space becomes available.
  2. I think you're right. I will probably hold off until deadline day, but I wasn't sure if it was worth bugging them any more about it. Thanks.
  3. All right, y'all. Long story short -- was waitlisted for an interview in January. Emailed POI last month, no response. Emailed grad admissions coordinator via my notification email last month twice, no response. Called the department inquiring how to update my transcript twice (once last month and once last week), no response. I realize that this is an extremely busy time of year, but this is frustrating. And it's the beginning of the end. Is it acceptable for me to call again tomorrow or Friday?
  4. Less than two weeks to go, and I have heard nothing from the school I prefer that waitlisted me for an interview back in January. It's fine. Everything. Is. Fine.
  5. Haven't received a response from my email or voicemail I left for the department where I am waitlisted. With less than two weeks until the deadline, it's safe to say I'm a tad stressed.
  6. Thanks for this tidbit. I'm sure I will, but I hope I adopt a similar attitude as you. It will likely become clearer since my undergraduate research has not been in my area of interest. I think I'm being picky at this point, but I'm very grateful for my one acceptance so far and would happily attend if I don't get off the waitlist at Rice. I still like to hold onto hope though... And I think there's something to be said about the excitement of being accepted somewhere. I think our perspectives are warped by this forum, because in reality an extremely small number of people earn a PhD. And for a place to genuinely want you to come to their school to do that is pretty cool.
  7. I was also pretty close to not getting in anywhere, so I'm also grateful I'm wanted at one place. And yes, we must always remind ourselves that what we do in grad school is often more important than the school itself. Maybe we'll stumble across each other at a conference or something someday.
  8. I'm sure we'll look back on all of those rejections later on in our careers and laugh, but they're definitely not fun. Hopefully you get the NSF to lift your spirits
  9. Not gonna lie, this admissions cycle has been a bit more depressing than initially expected. I obviously knew I wasn't getting interviews at these places since I was ghosted for months, but having the official rejections letters stings. Just waiting on Columbia and Penn to send their rejections now, and probably also Rice in a few weeks...
  10. Ooooof, that's tough. I hope this person decides ASAP and in your favor!
  11. Hahaha, thank you. I guess the worst thing is that he doesn't respond, and I feel like it's getting to the point where it's now or never, even if they haven't even sent out acceptances to their first choice applicants yet. I hope the application season is treating you well.
  12. It's weird though because I'm told by the department in January that they will let me know if they will be able to offer me an interview or if they will be "unable to offer me a position." So, it's not even waitlisted for an offer but waitlisted for an interview I emailed the person who notified me of the waitlist early last week to ask if I could submit some updates to my applications and affirm that it's my top choice, but I never got a response, so I don't know if I'm being pushy by emailing a professor next. But everyone IRL is telling me to be more aggressive, hahaha.
  13. Is it bad/weird to email a POI with whom I never had prior contact? I want to, but I feel weird about it. I'm waitlisted for an interview, and I see that someone else on the waitlist was offered interview a week ago. They still haven't sent out their acceptances to my knowledge, but I feel that it's getting late, and this is my top choice.
  14. Wooooooo got that rejection from Northwestern. But seriously, if anyone reading this who had an interview at Rice is unenthusiastic, please decline the offer ASAP and if anyone has any other related details, let me know!
  15. Must stop.... thinking about getting off waitlist...... hopefully all of my essays for finals week will distract me a little bit.
  16. Thank you! No, I declined the visit invite after the phone interview. Everyone seems so kind and cool there, though, so I bet you'll love it.
  17. Yeah, its kind of annoying about Penn for sure. I wish they would just reject me now. And each week I just get that same email about their Thursday chat.
  18. That's why I'm afraid of being too aggressive! I might send some emails today though.
  19. Thanks for the encouragement
  20. Yeah, I figured that. I was only in touch with the director of the program, not a specific POI, before submitting my application, so I'm not sure if this is viewed as "sucking up"
  21. Congrats! Must be a relief. Wish you the best of luck on your PhD journey.
  22. I hate to bump my own thread, but time is ticking! I plan on asking at least one academic advisor for advice, but I appreciate any other opinions.
