  1. @rahhbekuhhYou are welcome. Stay optomistic! I am enjoying the program and am excited for what's to come. The courses I have taken so far have been great in that they have allowed me to view many aspects of my work and personal life through a social work lens, which is something that I have longed for and have definitely appreciated as I've been learning and gaining perspective. You'll come to find that this program will constantly have you self-reflect and become more self-aware of yourself, which will potentially help you grow both as a person and practitioner. I feel like I am already a different person since I started off a couple of months ago. Also the faculty in the program are highly invested in their students' success and make sure that you are getting your money's worth, which is a major plus because as you know grad school is a life-changing investment. So you want to make sure you are in a program that is going to support you day in and out and ensure you are getting the most out of the experience. So far, I feel like CSUNs MSW is providing that for me and will continue to do so throughout my time in the program. That's my little spiel lol. I am part of the 3-year "part-time" cohort.
  2. @rahhbekuhh No problem! And that is totally normal for you to be constantly checking your email. I was on the same boat! I was told by others at the time I was going nuts waiting to refrain from doing that and that if it's meant for me to get into the program then it'll happen. Totally agreed, but it definitely was easier said than done. And give yourself some credit! You are most certainly qualified. Solely going based off of your education and work experience, I feel like you stand a great chance of at least getting invited for an interview. You have ample experience within the field already so do not hold back in sharing your experiences during the interview. That's really what the interviewers want to hear! What lived experiences, personal and/or professional, that has lead you to pursue an MSW. In terms of questions to ask the faculty would really depend on you. You can ask questions that relate to your curiosity about the MSW program such as how the program is structured, what types of social work experience do faculty members have, basic overview of the field internship requirement, or capstone projects that have been done by students in the past. Just to name a few that you may consider! I currently want to pursue school social work so a question that I asked was how to eventually obtain the PPSC, which is the credential I would need to provide services as a school social worker. So asking questions related to your interests or goals that you have set for yourself in the field would be great to ask as well.
  3. Of course! Graduated from CSUN in 2015 with a BA in Child and Adolescent Development with a minor in Africana Studies. Ended with a 3.8 cumulative GPA and graduated Magna Cum Laude as well. I have worked in day care with toddlers (about one year of experience), after school programs with school-aged children (6 months), severed for AmeriCorps in an education-based non-profit (2 years), volunteered for a 24-hour crisis hotline as a sexual assault advocate (6 months), and recently worked as a behavior interventionist at a charter 6-12 complex (5 months). As you can see, I have been taping into several positions, primarily in educational settings, since I started working in the field post-undergrad. So from what I can remember, I submitted my app I want to say a couple of days before the deadline in the beginning of January and got an invitation via email for the interview on 1/29. I got the acceptance via email on 3/18. The interview is like a total blur for me now. Honestly, I have like blocked that part from this whole experience out of my mind at this point lol. BUT overall it was very chill. I, along with about five others or so that interviewed with me, were overly freaking out over nothing prior to it. It was about an hour and fifteen minutes long (felt shorter) and two faculty members ask the group a series of questions. Probably no more than 5-6 questions, one of them being a scenario in which you have to collaborate with others in an even smaller group (make sure to try to contribute at least once during this part of the interview so that the interviewers see your engagement and how you work with others!) The faculty members then open it up for questions related to the program, profession, anything of that nature. I highly encourage you to come prepared with some questions beforehand. It will only highlight your candidacy even more. The interview closes off with a writing portion. Before you start hyperventilating, remember that this is only one of several factors that the committee will take into account during the decision-making process. From what I can recall, you can either write about your reflections on how the interview went for you or share anything that you did not remember or were able to share during the oral portion of the interview. The prompt is simple and they have you do this during the last few minutes of the interview just to get an idea of your writing skills/style as well. So do not sweat it! Hope this helped! If you have any further questions or need some more clarification in case I did not state it already, let me know!
  4. Hello all, I’m currently a CSUN MSW student going into my second semester. I promised myself that if I got accepted to the program that I would give back to this forum in some capacity, as I was in your shoes not so long ago. So if any of you have any grueling questions, please feel free to reach out & I will do my best to answer them as best & as quickly as possible. :)
  5. @mswguy Sweet! And definitely. Hopefully at orientation coming up.
  6. Thanks @mswguy! I applied for the 3-year program and yes I am attending. Just sent my signed acceptance form not too long ago.
  7. Thank you @CSUNMSW19! Hoping the good news is coming your way soon! :)
  8. Thank you @Evelyn.D! I've had so many emotions since receiving that e-mail and that is definitely one of them forsure.
  9. @SocialWorker7 I interviewed on 2/11 and got accepted on 3/14. So I was waiting for about a month and yes, it was brutal lol. Hoping that the good news comes your way sooner rather than later. Wishing you all the best!
  10. Thanks @MissB07! So the first time around I also was not invited for an interview. I am pretty sure, only speaking for this program, if you get an interview your chances of getting accepted are pretty high. Best of luck to you, you got this!
  11. Got my acceptance e-mail to CSUN earlier today! Best of luck to all of those still waiting it out. I totally feel your stress as I did not receive any word until about a month after my interview...so don't lose hope!
  12. @msw_grl Congrats! So there's no need for me to call forsure because I was also accepted earlier today! I think we had similar reactions lol literally probably one of the best feelings ever. Omg really? This was my second time applying as well and was my only school too! You're also doing the 3-year cohort right? Man, how crazy haha.
  13. @msw_grl I know, I'm sorry. It's getting harder by the day. For some reason I thought yesterday was going to be the day as I've noticed that Wednesdays seem to be a trend as the day they send out offers. But still nothing on my end. Let's try to be hopeful though! We're in this together. :) I interviewed @ 9:00am. Were you thinking of calling to check on your status if you don't hear back anytime soon? Or do you think that might be pointless since they probably will give you some generic answer? lol.
  14. Good to know @gabbasworld and I guess you're right. I feel like this week might be the week I hear back about my status, however if I do not receive word by the end of this week I will really consider reaching out. Thanks!
  15. Hey @msw_grl, I also interviewed on 2/11 and have yet to receive a response. I also applied to the same cohort. I seriously can't with this wait! Especially since I've seen that others have heard back already that interviewed on the same date or even before then. I'm hoping this week will be it for a lot of us. What time did you happen to interview, if you don't mind sharing. It's possible we interviewed together.
  16. Thank you @Evelyn.D and congratulations! Ahh the thing is I would. Trust me because this wait is agonizing lol. However, I feel like if I call it will make me seem impatient rather than professional and therefore jeopardize my chances in the long run. Especially if they are on the fence w me at this point if that may be the case. But at the same time, I am already dying to know what my status is!
  17. Hi @ashleyerden, congrats on your acceptance to CSUN! If you don't mind sharing, when did you interview and receive your acceptance? I interviewed on 2/11 and have been trying to wait patiently since then.
  18. @CSUNMSW19 Oh nice. You had an in-person interview as well? I applied for 3-year, however I made it known on my app that I would be interested in the 2-year or even online. I just prefer doing 3-year is all. Really, we can do that? That's good to know because the faculty that interviewed me didn't tell us that we can call & check our status after a month. Just that we may not hear back with a decision until May 15th the latest. Well, looks like this upcoming Monday will be the moment of truth because it'll be exactly a month since I interviewed. I just can't deal with this wait lol so I'm probably going to end up calling to see what's going on. Unless I get notified before then or something.
  19. @CSUNMSW19 Yes, it felt the same way for me I would say.I interviewed with Katie Mortimer and Steven Sherry. Both were great and funny. Kept bringing up The Grammy's throughout the interview lol. Ahh let's hope we hear back soon! What cohort did you apply to if you don't mind me asking?
  20. Gotcha @mswguy. Wow, you got into some other great programs! Looks like you have some tough decisions to make but eventually it'll pay off, literally and figuratively, whatever program you choose. And that is great that you have some networking already going with the faculty at CSUN. How long does CSUN give you to accept/decline their offer?
  21. Congrats @mswguy! If you don't mind sharing the following, what cohort did you apply to? Is this program your top choice? If pertinent, did you apply to other schools?
  22. Hi @Jd2019! All I can tell you is, DO NOT BE NERVOUS. There is no need to be. I know it is easier said than done being a person myself (amongst several other I'm sure) who tend to get real nervous during interviews. But honestly it wasn't as intense as you may think and the interviewers are very chill, at least the two who interviewed my group and I. Just try your best to relax going into it and not overthink things. Speak up as much as you can but be mindful that it is a group interview and that you have to give others an opportunity to speak within the duration of the interview as well. Also and I can not stress this enough, take your time and really think about the questions they ask before you answer. The way I see it, jumping the gun on a question can be a good and a bad thing as it may show great initiative but sometimes if you do not give yourself enough think time when considering a question, it may lack some depth and/or purpose to your response. As I reflect on my experience, I feel like I did fine. However I think my nerves got the best of me that my answers to the questions that were asked did not reflect my best self. I just really regret how nervous I was. Like I felt comfortable as the interview went on but I still think I was too much in my head from time to time. Now I am here worried that I ruined my chances getting into my top and only school that I applied to. :/ However, I am still trying to stay optimistic and not be so hard on myself as I think this committee reviews their applicants holistically. I'm sure the interview has a major influence on their decision of accepting/denying an applicant essentially but I hope it isn't solely based on that. At least that's the hope! Anyways, I do not want to give you specifics on the interview and what to expect because I would not want you to look too into and over prepare as it approaches as there is no need for that. Just be your authentic self, do the very best you can, and I'm sure the good news will be in store for you in the near future. You've gotten this far in the admissions process so I'm sure you'll be just fine. You got this and and good luck to you! :D
  23. Hey @CSUNMSW19! If you don't mind me asking, who did you interview with? How did you feel it went as well? And I am totally on the same boat...this wait has given me hardcore anxiety lol.
  24. Hello everyone! First off, congrats to all those who have gotten into their respected programs already and to those who have gotten interviews as well! Those are major accomplishments and you should all be so proud of getting this far. To those who have not heard anything back from the schools that they applied to, please do not lose hope! Most schools are barely starting to hold interviews if pertinent to their program and/or are just sending out acceptances. So try not to be discouraged! Specifically to my CSUN peeps out there, I'm curious to know if any of you have heard back from admissions if you've already interviewed. I interviewed a week ago and was told that they were going to try to get back to us as soon as possible but that it could take as long as May 15th for a response. I am really hoping that it will not take that long because it has only been a week and the wait is eating me alive lol. Please feel free to comment back and share how your experience is going as we are going through this hell of a rollercoaster ride together. Thanks you all!
