  1. Hey, if anyone gets accepted to Tulane EEB for a PhD, but doesn't want the spot, please let them know! I was waitlisted, but it's my first choice! Also, does anyone know when UT Austin EEB is going to say anything? It's been dark for a while now...
  2. I suppose so. According to my POI, they'll accept "most" of the invitees to the recruitment weekend, wait to see, and then circle back around for the waitlist. I'm just really, really hopeful though, since I was rejected to anthropology. Plus my partner is also trying to get into Tulane linguistics, so I'm just really hoping that everything works out...
  3. Hey, did anyone apply to Tulane EEB this year? I was waitlisted for the PhD, but it's my first choice! Anyone who doesn't want to go to Tulane, please let them know!!!

  5. Well, I was rejected to Tulane anthropology. I'm crushed, and confused, because it was an excellent fit, and my POI seemed very enthusiastic about everything. I've heard nothing from him this season since the application deadline though. I was accepted to Texas A&M anthropology w/ funding, but it's not a good fit for my partner (who is in linguistics). I am REALLY hoping for both of us to make Tulane EEB and linguistics/anthropology respectively, because I don't think I can take going to UT (family issues, parents live in Austin). I guess there's Hawaii too, but it's a stretch. I just don't know what to do
  6. Uhhhh, is anyone gonna claim those 4 acceptances to Tulane, for each sub-discipline? All four popped up today, and I'm super worried, because I haven't heard anything back from anyone there!
  7. Anyone on here applying to Tulane for Anthropology or Linguistics this year? I've applied to both Anthropology (cultural) and EEB for PhDs, and my partner applied for Anthropology (linguistic) and Linguistics. Tulane is our top choice, so I'm super nervous about getting in/getting funding! My GPA is okay (3.35 for unofficial transcript, probably gonna be 3.5 by final transcript - it's mostly my freshman year weighing me down), as are my GRE scores (QU: 150, QA: 160, W: 4.5), but I've got 2 major research projects, 2 internships, a small business (unrelated to the field of study), and even kinda-sorta a published paper under my belt! Plus my statement of purpose was good (I hope), and my LORs were amazing, or at least my professors thought highly of me... My POI showed significant interest (I think, he seemed to like my research ideas, interests, and what not, but just kept encouraging me to apply), as did my partner's, but I just don't know if I can make the cut! I just wanna know! It's hard enough hoping for your own spot, but I'm riding on my partner getting in too!!! Anyone else super stressed?

  9. I applied, in order of interest, to Tulane (socio-cultural, as well as EEB), UT Austin (geography and EEB), Texas A&M (archaeology), UHawai'i (Botany), and UArizona (EEB). I wanna study ethnoecology and historical ecology in the gulf south to southwest, and central America. But Tulane is my top interest, I really, really wanna go there! My partner applied there too, for linguistics and linguistic anthropology (wants to study language preservation and phonetics in the south and central America), so my fingers are super crossed! I just got my first rejection letter from UArizona, probably because no one I contacted there actually replied *eyeroll*, and I'm not super hopeful about Hawai'i either, but I'm optimistic about the rest!
  10. I'm reposting because I've switched some schools around... My main concerns are my lower GPA (freshman year mostly) and okay GRE (it's the GRE, I wasn't super invested) will potentially harm my chances at these schools...Tulane anthropology is my first choice, so I'm really hoping hard here... Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter: My GPA is low because I failed Physics 1 at McGill (hated the prof, and I had previously thought I would be getting out of the class due to high school credits). I took it again at a community college, and got an A Applying to Where:UT Austin - Geography (MSc. then hopefully sidle into a PhD) - Young, DoolittleUT Austin - Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior (PhD) - Fowler, JhaTulane - Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (PhD) - Farrer Tulane - Anthropology (PhD) - Balee Texas A&M - Anthropology (PhD) - Hopkins, Thoms, Bryant University of Arizona - Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (PhD) - Wilder, Arnold University of Hawai'i at Manoa - Botany (PhD) - Ticktin, Hynson I also applied for the NSF GRFP in the multidisciplinary category (ecology and anthropology). 11. I'm actually out at Mac, so I got to experience the joy of taking AEPH 112 with Dr. Titley-Peloquin...
  12. Thanks! I have three very strong LOR writers. Two supervised projects of mine (one is my honors thesis adviser), and the third nominated me for that peer mentor award. I have looked around at other schools, and I know that the west coast has strong botany and ethnobiology faculty, but I really would rather stick closer to home, and near to where I intend to study...
  13. I'm a little concerned that my lower GPA will potentially harm my chances at these schools, but I think I've done enough to balance it out...
