Poetic Justice has a dedicated form for applicants to fill in. The program assistant told me that they are going to send out invitations in January or early February, according to the PI's schedule.

Which group did you apply for?
-
Did you get your interview? Also applying to Lifelong Kindergarten.

TIE (MA) Applicant, didn't receive any email from HGSE. Anyone same to me?

Thanks! I wonder if they will somehow ignore my GPA (in last 2 years) for my reasons provided. I have many (5+) awards to prove my words. Usually, they will appreciate those who have a low GPA in freshman year but managed to get better later, however, I am not in the case..

Thanks for your wishes! I wonder if they have a GPA threshold at Harvard or other top universities; I did not even submit my average GPA since my undergraduate institution did not provide one. If they review my CV maybe I am safe for now; otherwise I have to doubt it.

Thanks for your kind response. As all my applications are nearly filed in, I have no choice but wait for the outcome and then consult your opinions. My undergrad GPA is low for said reasons (establishing my own business in China), and I have strong LoR from my professors in a top Chinese university (with top Chinese and history departments) in EAS applications. My LoRs for education departments are different: however, none are coming from Western universities and I don't think they have connections. I am still doubting whether I will get rejected from them all

Post here to get your worries off your chest
civitas replied to Teaching Faculty Wannabe's topic in Waiting it Out
Thanks for your thread! Worries: My mediocre GPA (officially 81.35 out of 100; 3.3 but not submitted as not printed in transcripts), especially in the last 2 years. I have no idea how they will evaluate such a score together with my experiences: I spent the two years in creating my startup. Half of my applications are in Educational Technology, right in my enterprise's field, while my undergraduate major is Chinese, which has no relationship with it. However, another half of my applications are in East Asian Studies, this time with my professor's LoR, but all of them don't have U.S. connections. Excitements: I have a good GRE score (335, albeit AW is only 4.0), a good TOEFL score (110), and a bunch of years of working experience - in educational technologies; as an entrepreneur, and involved in local politics. Many awards in China, owner of a popular educational technology app serving half a million users all over the world. In all, I have no idea how they are going to evaluate candidates... By GPA I have no hope; otherwise I still have a chance.- 274 replies

Did you receive visits to your portfolio?
-
Yes, they only took internal applicants for PhD program. The interview process for them seems to be quite different, however, I mistook the meaning in gradcafe's results page. We as external applicants cannot directly apply to PhD. I didn't notice the Poetic Justice group, and unluckily, I found it also matched my interests. Good luck to you!

That is indeed too much. You may begin to memorize vocabulary if you believe you can still remember them two years later; otherwise just try to improve your reading speed.
-
May I ask what group are you applying to? Mine: Lifelong Kindergarten; Fluid Interfaces; Viral Communication. Perfectly match my previous projects!
-
Not yet. My portfolio website has never been visited. Seems that they were busy interviewing Ph. D. applicants..
-
Welcome! My current work is about the application of technology to STEM education.

I have no idea... Whether an AW of 4.0 is enough for an international applicant? I got my GRE score today. PS I have made up my mind... I'm going to examine the imperial heritage in modern and contemporary Chinese institution.

I think your profile is good enough. I have heard from Northwestern's professor saying that most of their applicants were without publication or research experience. It may depend on your program but be confident about yourself.
-
I took my GRE yesterday: the unofficial score was 165V/170Q. Is that enough to compensate for my GPA (81 out of 100)?
-
I was enrolled in the Math department at the beginning of my undergrad... lol
-
Finally got my GRE score (unofficial, as the exam was taken today): V165/Q170. No idea about AW yet..

Just curious about the profiles

Wow. Since sending IELTS is cheaper... And what about GRE or undergrad GPA (from an overseas institution)?
