  1. Hi everyone. I'm considering emailing the director of my program because I haven't heard anything back about the waitlist and my position. I really just need clarity and peace in what is supposed to happen. I want to be prepared and am not sure if I should go ahead and start applying to jobs as alternative plans. Does anyone have any advice on how to word my email? I still want to come across as professional, interested, and patient. Thanks!

Kimbrough Towers in midtown/downtown is really nice. My best friend lived there for a while, it's less than 15 mins out

The Edison downtown is nice too, I lived there!

Thank you so much!!!! I’ve looked into them and they’re pretty affordable actually. You’re amazing!

Hey! I was raised in Memphis, are you looking to live near campus or do you mind being a few minutes out?

Hi! I’m honestly pretty open to both! I feel like I don’t want to live no more than 20 minutes from campus.

  4. I don’t have a ton of experience because this is my first time applying to grad school programs... but I was waitlisted at both of the schools I applied to. I got a call from the director of my top program saying if someone decides to not accept the offer, they will call me again and offer me a spot. I did email a follow up restating my interest and letting them know to keep me on the waitlist. The other program just sent me an email saying I was selected as an alternate and that if a spot opens they would contact me depending on my position on the waitlist. I feel mixed emotions about being on the waitlist haha but all I know is I am back in the agonizing waiting game (with a glimmer of hope!!). Thanks to everyone who is sharing their experiences!

  5. Thanks to everyone who has posted about the aren! I’m wondering if there are any specific apartment complexes I should look at. I’m hoping to go to University of Memphis for the school psychology program. ?

I'm very sorry to hear that. Hopefully, you'll get off that waitlist!  Have you considered getting the EdS first and then going for the Ph.D.? I think there are still EdS programs that are accepting applications.

Thank you! I have considered it actually! I’m interested in Memphis’s program but haven’t looked into others. Do you have any recommendations of programs?

Hi~ I’m new here, but I’m excited to chat with people going through the same frustrating/exciting process!

So, at the end of last year, I applied to 3 PhD programs (Berkeley, UW, & UC Riverside) & 2 EdS programs (SDSU & CSULB). I was emailed about interviews with Berkeley early January; they had the in-person interviews on Jan 29, but I was unable to go & instead opted to have an online Skype interview on Jan 25. Then, I got a follow up email from one of the 3 interviewers about how glad they were to talk with me, how they were impressed by my academic record, etc. At this point, I’m trying not to get my hopes up because it might just be a courtesy email to all interviewees. But just a couple days later, I get an email saying my application status has changed, & when I check the website, I  see that I got accepted into Berkeley!

I still have an interview with SDSU on Feb 16 and got contacted by UW for an interview as well. Tbh, the EdS programs (SDSU & CSULB) were just a back up if I didn’t get into any PhD programs, so I’m just doing the SDSU interview for “fun” lol. Right now, I’m just waiting for UW to contact me about the exact online interviews schedule (they told me sometime between Feb 11-28).

UCR hasn’t contacted me yet for any interviews, & I was wondering if anyone else has heard back from them already? I read somewhere that they usually have interviews late January, similar to Berkeley, so I sorta figured I’m already rejected, but they haven’t changed the status of my application sooo...?

    Honestly, I’m just so happy I have 1 PhD acceptance- & it’s Berkeley! :)

Welcome to the thread!! It’s awesome to hear good news. Congratulations on your acceptance and interview invites!!!! You should be proud of yourself. Good luck with everything! ?

Just got my first acceptance! So excited! It is a really nice faculty and I enjoyed the whole process of interview. The only thing that I am concerned is that it seems that as an international student I am not eligible to get a license after I graduate in that state. If it is true, I feel so sad.

    AHHHH CONGRATS! What school?

Hello everyone! I applied to UF's PHD program and Ohio State's Ed.S program. UF is my number one choice. I was invited to UF's interview on January 25th. Today I received the detailed agenda which I will attach. Also on the email, the recipients were not hidden so I could see there were a total of 20 students invited to interview on the 25th. Also the email was written in a way that did not single out PHD students so I'm assuming PHD and Ed.S applicants will be together. Let the frantic preparation begin!! Good luck to everyone!

Congrats on the interviews! Good luck and I’m sure you’ll do amazing!

Just updated my previous posts....my interview at University of Tennessee went really well and I was accepted! I am very excited and can't wait to start.

I've seen some posts about interviewing. I agree with others who have mentioned bringing a folio or something professional looking to keep your CV in, just in case. Maybe this is common sense, but I also wanted to say  make sure you're treating any time you spend with current students as an interview as well. Be personable with them, as they want to know how you'd fit in, but be appropriate. A couple people that interviewed let their manners slip some when we were with the students and the students didn't look impressed.

And, ladies, if you're not someone who wears heels every day, wear flats to your interview! We took a long walk around campus after the interviews and the girls in heels were clearly in a lot of pain.

    Good luck to everyone! :)

Congrats on your acceptance!!!! That’s amazing! I hope you celebrate. ??? Thanks for the tips as well!

  11. Hey guys I posted this in the school psych interview thread but I figured I’d update this one as well...

After literally accepting defeat and that I would be outright rejected last night, I received received an invite to interview at University of Memphis which is my top school. I’m in shock but I’m really excited. I guess it’s time to prepare (even though I’ve been watching so many videos and reading so many threads about interviews hahaha). I’m so nervous!

I am waiting to hear back from them as well! Every time i got an email notification today I would leap to my phone thinking it would be them ?.  Guess we will have to be patient and hope that they send something out this week!

Oh my gosh I’m so glad that someone out there can understand what I’m going through hahaha. I’m doing the exact same thing. I just want to know! I’ll definitely PM you if I hear anything as well.

  13. Hey everyone! I wanted to ask for feedback and advice... and I would be happy to hear from anyone! I applied to the School Psychology program at Northern Arizona University and received a mass email back in December 13 saying that the interview day would be January 25 and that they are “planning to notify everyone of their status by January 7.” I know the day isn’t completely over but just in case I don’t hear back tonight... What should I do? How long should I wait until I reach out to the program and ask about my status? Thanks for reading!

I just received an interview invite from UF! Excited but nervous! I'm not sure whether I could go to the campus or do a skype interview since I live in China. It would be a long flight and I worry a lot about the jet lag.

I was also wondering what I should prepare for the interview, the answer for  possible questions, dressing code?

Apart from interview part, there will be luncheon and evening social with graduate students. I guess these two parts will be more casual  but I still feel anxious.

Sorry I worry about the interview too much.:(

First of all... congrats on the interview invite! You’re amazing! I assume that business casual would be the best way to go. I’ve just been looking up videos on YouTube for PhD interview tips and they have really great tips. Good luck!!?
