I literally got a "Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays" e-mail from a school's Graduate Admissions yesterday..... It was SO unnecessary. LOL -

Same. I think what's most difficult for me is that individuals at my workplace/lab who are also applying this app round do not talk about it(?). Everyone is applying to similar schools, very similar interests, and clearly some individuals are much more competitive than others... And it's this weird, day-long, awkward silence in the hallways... I guess we can all not talk to each other from now until March? Lol what! People are so silly -

Student Doctor Network has a wealth of resources (and experts in the field, specifically) who discuss (in detail) the reasons why most non-funded or partially funded programs, primarily “diploma mills,” are not a good or wise career choice. As you may very well know: The majority of those programs have awful internship matching rates and licensure rates. Also, the majority of professors/faculty who receive/review apps for internships, externships, post-docs, etc. from such schools immediately throw their applications away (Again, I encourage anyone reading these comments to visit SDN and read the feedback from experts in the field regarding these topics). Your circumstances are understandable, and we all certainly come from different walks of life, myself included. That doesn’t mean you should make choices out of desperation regarding the quality of your graduate education. Good luck with everything! -

Who keeps re-reading their Purpose Statement(s) over and over again....? Plz tell me it's not just me... LOL -
Yes. Two of the programs I applied to waived this Psych GRE requirement because of ETS's negligence/disastrous handling of this exam. I'm surprised the programs you applied to haven't said anything.. This year ETS made a bunch of money of these Subject exams and didn't even properly deliver them on time.

I've heard unofficial/preliminary Skype (or phone) interviews helps POIs narrow down applicants from their long list for the formal, in-person interview(s). Basically- you've made it to their long list An achievement itself. -

I’m ambivalent about this. I think it puts them in an uncomfortable situation. ? That’s just me though lol -

Ending the night by casually stalking my POIs websites.... On a Saturday night... you know, in case they were to ever consider interviewing me out of the hundreds of other applicants.... ? -
It wouldn’t be relevant to the stats applicable to you anyways.. You’re applying to different programs! I rather base my odds on the Student/Outcomes data from specific programs I’m applying to lol

How many of you have programs that send out interview invites this month? There's about ~3 programs sending out invites from the 15th-21st for me... I'm officially a complete wreck. Here we go December!!!!!!!!! -
What is this........... thing? lol. Did you collect this on your own? I'm a little data nerd and love stuff like this. Obviously lots of confounds with self-report data, but still pretty neat to see an aggregate first-look draft at the massive amount of information applicants report on that forum!

Most programs are slammed at the moment trying to time-stamp materials as they are coming in. For most programs, there is a 5-10 business day grace period after the December 1st deadline to sort through materials and forward them to the departments. I personally would not want to be the one calling/annoying the department. Trust the process. If nothing is reflecting by next Wednesday morning, then it would be appropriate to send a polite e-mail (not call). -

Shitty Q* and "OK" V/AWA over here. Sick of a billion (million? trillion? Who knows) dollar institution that does the dirty work of discriminating against minority applicants so universities don't have to do it -

So one of my applications (for a very highly competitive trauma program) says both "SUBMITTED" and under it "UNDER REVIEW" in green. All materials have been submitted since a couple of days ago (including my letters).. Is the department already reviewing apps? lol They really waste no time huh -

I worked in a lab, as an undergraduate (previous app rounds ago) where someone posted they received an invite from my then-advisor/lab director. Then more invites popped out of nowhere. Um... She wasn’t even interviewing anyone that application round. LOL. It was so strange/odd. I don’t know why people do this... but they do. ? -

The V and AWA is simply too low compared to what these competitive programs accept (Especially if they are fully-funded). You're able to view this in their Students Outcomes data. If I was you, I would look into Plan B and focus on re-taking this exam. You can raise these scores. Other doctoral student forums provide excellent resources for re-taking it. You may be great candidate, but those scores will most likely prevent your application from getting reviewed and considered -

Approach the results page with a healthy dose of skepticism.. None of the information on there can be verified, since it's anonymous. Reason #1 why I am completely staying off of it -

Is this your first time applying? I have read (extensively) that in order to make up for a low GPA, you need good-stellar GREs, and a good explanation in your SOP. Most programs will forgive a low GRE score in one area if the GPA good-stellar. You cannot however expect to get accepted with low GPA and low GRE scores. The pool of applicants is simply too competitive. What matters most however is the fit... Is your research background strong? Are your writers creating stellar letters? Do you have years under your belt demonstrating meaningful research productivity? I've read this is what sets you apart from other applicants -

CV-Best method to present research experience
xxxxxxxxxx replied to brumk's topic in Psychology Forum
I have never heard of this either. I would have your mentors (letter-writers) review your CV. It's a little late probably a day before the deadline, but if they cannot review, I would strongly use one of their CVs as templates of what should go on a CV.
