.......Can we? Come together and bask in our anxieties and worries? Am I the only one here? ?????? Today I woke up wanting to e-mail the PI (at my top program) and telling them that they’re my #1 choice, lmao. It’s only been a week post-interview for this program, but I love it SO freaking much..... and the PI immediately responded to my post-interview email with such great/warm feedback........... Ugh. What are all of you thinking about and ruminating over? I would cancel my upcoming interviews immediately if I received an offer from this PI, tbh ??

What are people's experiences being waitlisted?
xxxxxxxxxx replied to Waitlistedbuthopeful's topic in Psychology Forum
What about expanding your school search to other areas? Or do you feel that for the next app round, you'll still be geographically limited? I think you did excellent this time around with only 6 schools (And in the same area!), so focus on what you did right, which led you to 50% of programs wanting to interview you. Definitely reach out to the faculty (Sometime in April, not now), and ask for feedback- At least for the programs that rejected/waitlisted. I did, and it helped me immensely. This process is brutal, unfair, often times ridiculous, and many factors are at play which we can't control as applicants. If this is truly the career path you envision for the rest of your life, try again, and do not give up.❤️ -

Did you interview with any other programs? Or was this your only interview? Also, is this your first round of applications? It sucks but time heals everything, trust me. Like @Marginally Significant mentioned above, you use the hurt/energy to make yourself 23892389x more competitive for the next round. This similar situation happened to me last time I applied. The program I was in "love with" that waitlisted me/ultimately rejected me last time invited me to interview again this time around (and they are clearly impressed with my application/materials/growth in my accomplishments), but: This time around, they're no longer my #1 lol. I would say they're not even my top 4... Which is insane to think about, how your interests change over time. If you do not get accepted this time around, you will definitely learn from your mistakes and use it to your advantage for the next time you decide to apply. -

For reputable, clinical psychology Ph.D./Psy.D. programs, you must complete an interview before being offered acceptance to a program. Schools generally wait until all acceptances are finalized (from those invited to interview) before sending rejections to all applicants. -

1. Quite common actually. Unless it's a very competitive program, people usually will accept the school as their top choice. I heard JJ is a very competitive school, so odds are very slim unfortunately ? 2. Yes, it's worth it. Although it's a little awkward (from personal experience)- This happened to me this app. round with 1 school. For the rest of the programs, I actually applied to most that rejected me in the past, and all those programs invited me to interview this time around lol (n=5 specifically where it wasn't my first time applying). I felt so confident though interviewing this time around because of my strong experiences/background, it was pretty awesome, and the PIs were truly impressed with my background. -

I can't like this...... SO I WANT TO TELL YOU I LOVE THIS. LOL!!!!!!!! CONGRATS!!! -
I think this is (highkey) a common sentiment, honestly. I haven’t been “waitlisted post-interview” yet, but if I was (let’s say #5? on a list), I would feel like absolute $h!t knowing my PI DID NOT consider me his/her #1, and it was only until his #s 1-4 options rejected the offer that the PI decided to “make me an offer.” I guess my comment doesn’t make the situation better, wahhh, but I’m just preparing for worst-case scenario.... and these are the stupid thoughts that I run through my head. Again, everything sucks, I want this process to end already ?

#waitist LOL I don’t even know wtf I’m typing anymore. I kind of feel a certain way about faculty ?.... in my last interview, my PI was interviewing 7+ applicants for 1 position. The (broken) system in place doesn’t favor the applicants whatsoever, it favors the institutions/departments, which is awful. I’ve said this before, but the field needs to move more towards a system that mirrors the internship application process!!!!!!!- 328 replies

Was this for George Mason? Don’t lose hope, people have gotten accepted from the waitlist post-interview so many times. You need to just pray people make their decisions in a timely manner! I’ve seen people rejected and waitlisted from GMU so far, but some of us who interviewed haven’t heard anything since interviews! ? Do we assume acceptance? Why haven’t they updated or emailed us? It’s confusing! Clearly they’ve got the process a little bit all over the place this year. -
