MSWgirl2019's Achievements

Decaf (2/10)

  1. This was so helpful! Thank you so much! That's so uplifting to hear. I know a lot of other students last year also said that they had success with negotiations, but I wasn't sure how to begin that process. I've PMed you with some additional questions.
  2. Hey all! Does anyone have any tips about how to negotiate for more funding? Who should we speak to? I feel fortunate that I received a good scholarship (20k), but it still is going to steep me into major debt. ?
  3. Congrats to everyone who has been admitted!!! Does anyone know when we will receive our financial aid packages? @mswgirl11 As far as I know, we will not be receiving pay for our field placements. In fact, we pay them to place us--it's definitely one of the things that makes me wrestle with the MSW program. It's expensive and exigent because of the dual curriculum (academics + field placement) which means that finding a part-time job will be difficult. ?
  4. @zoetrope Yes, these packages include federal need-based scholarships and work study as well so don't worry! After you have submitted the FAFSA, then UChicago will update you will in a few weeks what your new financial package will be. Then you can assess how much you will have to take out in loans, which will also be offered as part of the federal aid. Hopefully, the government will be able to offer you a sizable amount on top of whatever UChicago already gave you. Their website explains that there are three types of federal aid offered: Loans—borrowed money for college or career school; you must repay your loans, with interest" Work-study—a work program through which you earn money to help you pay for school Grants—financial aid that doesn't have to be repaid (unless, for example, you withdraw from school and owe a refund) https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/type
  5. I'm sorry to hear that! I wish you all the best and you definitely have some excellent options. I attended NYU as an undergrad and had a very positive experience so please feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Best of luck to everyone else!
  6. Everyone go check your admissions portal! They updated my decisions document today at 5 pm, but they did not email me about it! It was just very lucky that I randomly checked
  7. Wow, I wish you the best of luck What kinds of things are the SSA alums in Chicago doing? Do you know if they were all happy with their experiences in SSA? Yes, ha I definitely am clinging to supremely false hope that we'll hear by 5 pm today, but I doubt it.
  8. Me too! And it's taking longer than last year! People who applied on the early decision deadline for the full time program heard by January 20th.
  9. Congrats!!!! That's an awesome list! If you get accepted to UChicago with a generous scholarship package, would you pivot towards SSA? Hopefully, tomorrow is the day we've all been long anticipating so you can finally make a decision ?
  10. Congratulations!!! ? Can I ask where you've been accepted?
  11. Ha me too! Is anyone else checking the application portal and this thread obsessively to see if anyone else heard back yet!? ?
  12. How is everyone hanging in there? Really hoping the full-time applicants hear back this week. ?
  13. Hey! Congrats on all your acceptances! I was also recently admitted to UPenn--do you know when we would be receiving our financial aid packages from U Penn?
  14. Congrats to both of you! That's awesome news ? Hoping the full time MSW candidates begin to hear back this week...the wait is killing me!
  15. I'm on edge! I'm really hoping we hear back from U Chicago in the next couple of weeks! In other news, I just heard back from U Penn today. I submitted on 12/31 and they emailed me this morning saying my admissions decision was ready. It was lightning quick, almost suspiciously so! ? I hope U Chicago is the same way! Has anyone else applied to or heard from U Penn or other schools?
