I don't have publications, but I will have one poster presentation towards the end of this semester. It seems that for top 50 program my GRE score is not sufficient. Would 311 be an okay score for programs ranked between 50-100 in the US then?

I had similar research experience (~3 good experiences and a poster presentation) and a very similar GRE score (312, 4,5 AW) when I applied. I was accepted to two programs ranked 50-100 last application cycle (I applied to mainly top 50s and a few 50-100). I'm not sure how similar social and cognitive psych are as far as competitiveness goes, though. Feel free to pm if you have any questions

    School: University of Iowa

I accepted! Message me if you are also going to be a Hawkeye next Fall!

    Congrats! That's a great program!

Congrats! What is Iowa State like? (I know you're social and I'm counseling but still am wondering what the campus and whatnot are like).

The campus was really nice. The psych department was a spread out across a couple buildings, but they were all in close proximity to each other. I didn't see much of the campus, though. It was pretty cold and windy when I was there, but there wasn't much snow which was nice. They also had a great bus system to get around campus and the city. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions!

When is acceptable to email programs to check on your application status (I have seen many rejections from these schools, but also interviews/acceptances)?

It's probably okay to inquire about application status. I emailed a few schools (deadlines were early to mid Dec.) to ask about the status of my application, but only got generic replies (paraphrasing: "applications are currently under review and you will be notified when a decision is made"). I'm sure the informativeness of the response varies, though.

    Good luck!

How long after interviewing do programs typically take to get back to you?  I know this varies so much by program, but I'm curious to get a sense of the range people have heard of (or experienced).  Do programs typically send out notices of all acceptances/wait-lists/rejections at roughly the same time?

Thanks and good luck to all!

I interviewed last Friday and received an acceptance Monday. It seems like they get back to you pretty quick (within the next week) but I’m sure it can vary considerably.

Hi all! I am an international student so I am not very familiarized with the application process. I would really appreicate if you could give me your opinion on whether if I have not heard from the following universities it very likely means I will be rejected. I haven´t been contacted for skype neither on campus visit. Has anyone been interviewd via Skype for these? Or invited on campus?  Thanks a lot!!

    McGill (Experimental)

    Rice (cognitive and affective neuroscience)

    UBC (social psychology)

    UT Austin (social psychology)

    USC (social psychology)

I haven't heard from UT Austin yet but I know their interviews are in February and March (not sure of the exact date unfortunately). I have a few friends who applied there as well who haven't heard anything either.

I've had 2 interviews so far.

    1. 4 solo with faculty, 0 solo with grad students, 0 group interviews
    2. 2 solo with faculty, 1 solo with grad student, 1 group interview

    Just received another schedule with

          3. 6 solo with faculty, 4 solo with grad student, 0 group interviews. Excluding 2 socials day of, and night before. IS THIS NORMAL??????? WHY IS THIS HAPPENING

I just had one yesterday. 3 group with faculty, 1 solo with faculty, 3 solo with grad students, and a group with all the grad students from the lab. The group interviews were surprisingly not as stressful as the solos. Good luck!

Posted this in another group, but wanted to make sure I didn't miss anyone!

Please PM me or reply (With PI initials!) if you have any news regarding:

CU Boulder, Duke, UT Austin, Northwestern, U minn (not child), U Pitt, Wash U

This is all for social/personality, so I can't speak for any of the other areas, but:

WashU sent out all of their interviews earlier this month and they're having interviews on the 31st of January.

UT Austin is in the still in the process of reviewing applications and will hold interviews February and March (I emailed them on Friday so I can't guarantee this is still true). I know last application cycle they sent rejection emails to the bottom 50% of the applicant pool and interview invites to the top few percent. The rest were essentially considered "waitlisted".

My PI initials were MS for WashU and SG for UT Austin.

I emailed UT Austin and they said that faculty are in the process of reviewing files and that I'll be contacted if I am offered an interview. Interviews are held Feb through March.

    Thank you!

I mailed WUSTL and they didn't reply back. But I know that their interview weekend is the 31st of January, so this silence is weird.

That's really strange they didn't at least get back to you
