  1. Just got off the waitlist and offer today for Cornell! Still have other places to hear from but want to know more about Cornell. Have y'all visited/know much about Cornell/Ithaca?
  2. Off the waitlist and was offered a spot at Cornell! Still in shock, had to make sure it wasn't an April Fools days joke! But its true! Also just kinda wondering if anyone has heard from Maryland, thats the only program I have still yet to hear from? Thanks y'all!
  3. I got off the waitlist y'all! There is hope! Keep your hopes up everyone! I seriously had to do a double take and jokingly asked if it was an April Fools Joke but nope, it was a real offer! What a day!
  4. After being told by my POI at my top program choice I was first on the waitlist and I'm number two on the waitlist at my second choice program. But in all seriousness I really hope I can nab a spot at my first choice. I still am hoping, but trying to be cautiously optimistic as I'm sure all of y'all are as well.
  5. I heard the same, and that they're looking for funding for students so that's why they're taking a bit to send out offers. But yea, I think (based on history on the Results page) we may here by the end of this week...
  6. I think it just depends on your interviewers. Some like to be stoic others may show more emotion. I would say you most likely did better than you thought, but its human nature to focus on maybe what you did so well and so you start to think the worst. You just gotta fight your human nature (easier said that done I know). But try to keep positive, if you got an interview, you deserved it, and you are a top candidate. So own that.
  7. I am on the waitlist for Cornell (and Utah) as of now. Only acceptance is at University of South Carolina School of Public Health, but with great faculty who have Health Comm expertise, so I am happy for that! One of my potential advisors wrote me a pretty long detailed email about the process and told me to seriously hold on, that he's "hopeful" a spot will open up for me. What just sucks is that he told me any other year, I probably would have gotten an outright offer, but this year they had to seriously be more conservative with offers. So again, I'm really hoping haha (Help me baby Jesus)
  8. Hey @fjf2019 I did apply and interview with Maryland about two weeks ago. I'm not 100% sure if they interview everyone, I thought it was kinda crazy that I got an interview so quickly after I applied (since their deadline was Jan 7th). I've heard the Maryland Comm PhD is pretty competitive. All the Comm programs I've applied to (from what I've heard from them and the grapevine [other students, faculty, etc]) have said they have more limited resources this year to make offers. Not sure if they are planning for an economic recession, and maybe are just trying to be preemptive for that. I think Maryland should be making decisions soon as UPenn and some of the other top programs should be making final decisions soon.
  9. @sgaw10 sooo desperate. I got waitlisted on my top two programs after interviews. Its I would say more stressful to be on the waitlist than just getting an outright rejection. Ugh. I just want it to be closer to the deadline so people can make up their minds.
  10. Hey! I actually just finished applying for Comm PhDs with a focus in Health Comm. Now my list is probably a little different, but I'd suggest looking into 4 programs in particular that have strong Health Comm emphasis: Cornell, Utah, Maryland and Michigan State. But as other folks mentioned above there's a lot of options and the health comm focus may be hidden elsewhere. Good luck!
  11. Totally agree with all of you. I have one offer, and don't get me wrong, I'm extremely grateful, but basically the other two programs I've been waitlisted for were my top two. So it kinda just sucks, cause I have to wait to see if a spot opens at one of the places while letting South Carolina know I can't make a decision really until the end of March when I have a better idea if I'll have a shot at the other programs. Additionally, I'm still waiting on a few programs, but man, of course its my top three that torment me like this for now. Good luck to everyone else on their offers. It will get better, but I just understand where y'all are coming from (had to go through this for MPH 6 years ago).
  12. Hey, thanks for starting this @Izakawa. How are y'all planning on playing this out? I got waitlisted at Cornell for a Communication PhD and its really a strong fit for me. Are y'all just going to wait until April 15th and if a spot opens up take it? I was kinda bummed cause I was hoping to get an opportunity to fly out to Ithaca (on Cornell's penny rather than my own preferably) to visit and really see if it as strong a fit as I think (compared to other programs I have been to a met with faculty, Cornell I've had good convos with faculty but kinda want to meet other students, see the facilities and get a better sense of the program you know?) Obviously still waiting on word from other programs (got one acceptance, and interviewed with two [Cornell being one] got waitlisted from them). I'm still waiting on word from 7 other programs. Curious to know what y'all thinking of working with the waitlist situation.
  13. I would wait until you interview to let them know your ICA paper was accepted. Unfortunately, thats the only time you can really sell anything you did between application deadlines and getting offers/rejections.
  14. Hey y'all, sorry to join so late. I interviewed with Cornell a week ago and just got an email yesterday saying I'm on the waitlist for now. They said they had to be more conservative this year on offers due to limited resources in the department. So fingers crossed, that would be a really great opportunity. I'm kinda an odd one out just FYI, I have a Master in Public Health but looking to cross over into Comm, specifically Health Comm, so it could have helped me or hurt my chances. I also applied to Public Health PhDs too, so I could be anywhere next year. I also applied to Utah as my partner is out there finishing her PhD in Political Science, it looks like next week we should hear back from them. 19 Fall Communication/Public Health PhD application Applied: Utah (Comm) / Cornell (Comm) / Maryland (Comm) / Michigan State (Comm) / Johns Hopkins (PH) / South Carolina (PH) / North Carolina (PH) / Harvard (PH) / Vanderbilt (Other) Interviewed: Maryland / Cornell Waitlist: Cornell Accepted: South Carolina Rejected: Johns Hopkins (Presumed, friend applied to same program and got an interview invitation)
