I'm dying to know what's going on over at UCLA. They're way late compared to the last five years

What's the general wisdom on follow-up e-mails after an interview? I had a Vandy interview and didn't have the adequate chance to address one question/concern I thought deserved some more in-depth discussion. Would it be crazy/inappropriate to send a follow-up e-mail addressing that concern?
It probably isn't inappropriate, but I'm not sure it will help (in terms of maximizing probability of admission). It won't hurt either, probably. So I guess if your goal is to get a question answered an email is worth it, but otherwise it's probably a wash. Others can correct me on this, but my impression of interviews is that they're just trying to see if you seem like a normal person who can articulate about the work you're doing

Claiming an MIT acceptance, American/methods

I can see that, sorta, their yield jumped from 38% to 54%, and they enrolled 20 instead of the usual 15 last year.
Yep. Seems like there were some weird dynamics last year that led to Michigan having higher matriculation, and PhD students are expensive so they have to compensate. Sucks for those who applied this year.

Just got mine. They said about 4% acceptance rate, which seems really low.
Yeah, they over-admitted last year and had to compensate this year, so I've heard

Does anyone have advice on how (or even whether) to respond to a super short personalized email from a professor at an admitted program? (I went to a lax school and I've never addressed a prof by anything other than their first names — should I address them as "Professor Lastname" or "Dr. Lastname" or just "Professor"???)
Yeah, I was wondering whether to respond to a personalized email as well - I opted not to for now, but now I'm rethinking. As far as addressing them, if they are a professor always use "Prof" or "Professor." If they have a PhD but are not a professor, use "Dr." Else, use "Mr./Ms." Professors, essentially as a rule nowadays, have a PhD, so technically "Professor" is a level above "Dr." because some instructors (lecturers, postdocs) don't have the title of "Professor" but do still have a PhD.

They probably programmed it to release all notices on 2/8. My rejection came exactly at 12:01am PST. Pretty funny.
Well that makes more sense

Anyone have any idea when the UC Davis decisions will go out? I would have thought they'd be out by now. Seems like we have a bit of a break now before Harvard/Stanford/Columbia come out. Not looking forward to the wait. 8 applied/ 0 acceptances/ 3 rejections
There's still UCLA, MIT, Michigan yet to come before Harvard/Stanford/Columbia. But yeah, for the most part we'll be waiting until the end of the month seems like

Does anyone have any feel for what the best qualitative programs are? How would Wisconsin rank in there? And does anyone have any general thoughts on how Wisconsin would compare to Colorado and Rice and how Colorado and Rice are?
Not sure what you mean here. Do you mean the best programs that do qualitative research or the best programs qualitatively speaking? In either case, not sure there's a good answer

What I love most about this is that King wrote the paper and also is literally 1/2 the citations.
Yeah, but you get to do that when you're Gary King ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Congrats to everyone in! Can I ask everyone that got in if they got similar funding? My package says approx 94k. I've heard they sometimes give more so if you're one of them extra congrats!
Yep, around 94k.
