@Cryss yes I have presented at other conferences

If a university does not require the subject test but accepts subject test scores, would you recommend that I send mine? I took the exam and didn't do all that well (510, 36th percentile), but my general GRE score was stronger in the verbal reasoning and analytical writing areas (163 VR, 93rd percentile, and 5.5 AW, 98th percentile). I've heard that taking the subject test can be perceived as an indication of seriousness, even if the score isn't all that great. I know this might be a difficult question to answer since programs are different and it's likely difficult to definitively say, but in your experience, would you recommend that I send the subject score or hold off? I'm wary of sending a low score that might detract/distract from other stronger elements of my application.

Hi guys, I have a question regarding whether or not I should include this conference on the “Invited Papers/Conferences” section of my CV. My paper was accepted to a CUNY English conference last Spring semester, but I ended up not being able to attend/present because the conference was held on the same day as my graduation from my MA program. That said, the paper was still accepted and CUNY is one of my top choice programs so I took the paper’s acceptance as a mark of capability and feel that I should still, for this reason, list it on my CV. Would you recommend this and should I include a one line notation noting that I was not able to attend due to the date conflict?

@Wildthing GW's waitlist is apparently unranked and they haven't sent out official acceptances yet. So if you haven't heard back that might be in your favor -

I emailed NYU today as I've also not heard back, and the official word is that decisions will go out early next week. -

Anyone know anything about UMD? Have been assuming IR, but just wondering. -

Random question, maybe @Warelin would have some insight. Does anyone know how much age and professional experience matter in the PhD application process? For instance, would someone who's 23/24 be considered 'too young' for a program? Is professional experience (aside from TA'ing) necessary for PhD programs? -

Yeah Rutgers traditionally spreads their phone calls anywhere from Thurs-Sun, but they usually call over the weekend. Given the past years' notification schedules, it's likely that there'll be some notifications made this weekend. Fingers crossed...that's my top choice. -

@breemartini i'm also one of the ones to not receive a Columbia rejection. I was wondering today if it's because rejections are going out in an alphabetical order, but there's no real way of knowing after all. It's confusing being that some people reported being waitlisted for Columbia, so not receiving a waitlist notification would imply a rejection, but maybe something else is up. Everything seems to be very mystifying this cycle. -

@Englishandteamakesahappyme yeah who knows! It seems that rejections are really late this year. Of course no one wants to get one, but at least there's a sense of certainty then. I guess we have no choice but to stay tuned. -

@Englishandteamakesahappyme & @awildsheep same here! I applied to 11 programs and have only had one formal notification, which was a rejection. Aside from that one rejection, I've heard nothing. While I can say that some of them must be IR's, it really is strange to have the radio silence. I should note that 3 of my programs have yet to send out any notifications of any kind, but still. -

Anyone here a Victorian/19th C British specialist? It seems that this year's acceptances have so far consistently been for other areas of specialization other than Victorian/19th C British. I'm wondering if last year was a big year for this particular area, and there just isn't much space for specialists working in this period this application season as a result. Granted, people might not be reporting their areas on the results page, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has noticed that. -

Congrats to those who got UMD waitlists! Has anyone heard of any acceptances from UMD (English PhD)? Wondering if they only sent out waitlist info today. -

Congrats to those who found out about interviews, waitlists & acceptances today!! Quick question: what does "GPA is MA" mean? I get that "MA" is obviously "Master's," but what's the significance? Never seen that outside of this site.
