  1. I don't know if there's a database, but you may want to check out the Google doc linked in a previous thread. I've noticed some notes of visits or interviews on it. Sometimes these dates are buried deep in a department's webpage, and if all else fails, emailing someone in the department and explaining your situation should do the trick Outside of that, all I can offer is that Baylor's invite-only finalists weekend is March 22.
  2. No, I haven't, but after your suggestion I may. I've already counted them out, so I guess if I'm game for some disappointment with extra disappointment on top, I should do it.
  3. Congrats to the person who got into the University of Kentucky program! If you read this, could you share some details about your status in the portal, what time the call was, etc? I'm still showing "submitted" and hoping they're just moving slowly through the phone calls.
  4. Hahahaha refreshing the results page and the forums constantly. Seriously though, I feel I can relax more during the weekend than the workweek because A) I don't expect to hear anything over the weekend, though I know that isn't the case with all programs and B ) At work, I'm always on the computer so it's tempting to refresh, take a look, do work, rinse and repeat. At home, I don't have to be near a computer. I've been doing all the challenges on Red Dead Redemption II and going for 100% completion. It may sound silly, but it's a goal of some sort that I've set for myself, and it keeps me focused on something. Since I can't do anything about grad school applications anymore, having something I can work on and work towards is super helpful. That, and I know that I won't have much time for games in the coming years so I may as well enjoy it while it lasts ?
  5. I hear ya, I have anxiety and it just gets worse through all this! There are a lot of people here going through the same thing, and I've found that talking to people like me helps it just sucks to wait like this, period. But having a community of people to talk to about it is really great. Feel free to DM me if you want to vent more!
  6. Bioethics MA. Bioethics is one of the areas of specialization I'm interested in, and I had Wake Forest on my list in case I needed to get an MA before PhD, depending on how this cycle goes Edit: Changed my signature in case that was confusing people!
  7. ugh I just know that's going to be me this year. I guess on the bright side, I'll have ruled them out by April 15th and will have chosen another school so it'll only feel a little bad....right? Right? ?
  8. At least this person is handling their rejection with a sense of humor. Too real.
  9. You got this!!! That's rigorous but you've made it a long way
  10. I know that feeling! Earlier this week there were a whole slew of philosophy decisions coming in, but not from my programs. Drove me crazy! I don't know about history, but with philosophy it's still considered very early. Hang in there!
  11. Honestly? I graduated in 2015, did a year as a Fulbright ETA, and then worked a few years. Got married. Always wanted to go to grad school, but had to wait for my husband to finish undergrad. He's done this May, and I can finally go! At least, that's the plan, right? This has been the one thing I've been working towards for going on 8 years now. I was that freshman who was already looking at grad schools. Total nerd I guess. Unfortunately if I don't make it this round, I'll have to take the GRE again, as my scores expire soon. I could find a job I like but quite frankly, I've hated working in tech. 9-5 at a desk in a corporate environment just isn't for me. I'd thought I might go into nonprofit work if I don't make it. But realistically, I already got accepted to an MA program so that's a solid backup for me. It's a good program and may help me get into a PhD program if stuff doesn't work out this time around. I'm going to grad school, darnit!
  12. I'd totally understand that. It's a personal thing. For me, having a community of people going through the same thing is helpful, and I like reading some of the funnier threads (best rejection comments over on one of the other forums is a personal favorite). At the same time, I do stay away from some that are like "What if my GRE isn't good enough?" because I can't do anything about that now and I don't want to worry more. Today, I found it annoying that there were hardly any philosophy program updates. That feeds my anxiety a bit. If you needed to not look at the forum at all during this, that's totally understandable.
  13. I've heard back from two programs - accepted to a master's program, and finalist at another (pending an interview in March). Probably waitlisted at a third, but their waitlists are hidden so I can't be sure. I wasn't expecting to hear back so soon and the fact that I already have two decisions is making me super anxious to hear from more schools! I work a desk job and I hit refresh on my email more that I want to admit.
  14. Congrats!!!!! Saw that on the results page, that's a big one! High five
  15. Oh man I didn't even think about how that would affect their decision. I mean I honestly hadn't heard of schools taking yield into consideration till I read this thread. Iirc the only schools who asked me that are pretty well ranked themselves so I hope it doesn't matter. Pretty much anything makes me nervous at this stage.
  16. I would say that there isn't hard number that means "too many." However, there are some factors that could be impacted by high numbers of applications and then it might be too many: Financial burden. Between re-sending GRE scores and the application fees themselves, my 10 schools cost me around $900. I got a scholarship to cover some of that, but I couldn't have afforded any more than the 10--and even that was pushing it. So if you can afford 20 schools, great! Go for it! But anyone who can't shouldn't push their financial limits. Time constraints. Holy cow I can't even imagine how long it took you to do 20 applications! I felt like I was drowning in 10 (and I have a full time job so that's part of it). Not dedicating enough time to each application could damage their quality. In addition, you might miss some of the little details that (in my experience) can be hard to track down--do they want official or unofficial GRE scores? Do they require you to put something special on your CV that the other schools don't ask for? Do they need official or unofficial transcripts? Assuming you dedicated a lot of time and energy to your applications, I don't think you applied to an "exceedingly high" number in a bad way. But it is something to watch out for. Most students from my undergrad program applied to between 10-12. But what's "just enough" and "too much" is going to be relative for everyone
  17. As @MtnDuck mentioned, Baylor does a "preview weekend." I got an email that I'm a finalist, and from what I can tell they invite 2x the number of people they plan to admit to the preview weekend, and decide from there. I expect it to be somewhat more informal than an interview, but still something where they're gauging if you're a good fit or not. I know a grad student at Baylor and if it would help anyone, I can ask them about the weekend and post here.
  18. Great! That's semi-good news at least. Thanks!
  19. I actually just looked at grad cafe and found all this out today, so I haven't reached out yet (beyond an email in early January confirming they had all my materials, as my GRE score wasn't showing up). I think I'm going to give it until EOD Monday at the very least, and keep an eye out here for late rejections. Don't want to appear too anxious in their eyes. I imagine sending rejections is a push of a button that sends out a mass email to everyone at once, and if we were left out of that, it likely means waitlist. But that's just speculation. Please post if you decide to reach out!
  20. Hey just saw your post, wanted to say I'm in the same boat. Let's hang in there and hope we're waitlisters! That's somewhat good news at least!
  21. Looks like rejections and acceptances are out for UNC Chapel Hill, and I haven't heard anything regarding my application. Probably waitlisted?
  22. The UNC news is scaring me. Sitting here Feb. 1st after seeing all these rejections and earlier acceptances and I have no news on mine. Anyone in the same boat? I don't have an email (checked spam) and double checked my phone and I haven't missed any calls.
