  1. When I finally get rejection notices, I plan to post something super funny to lighten things up and hopefully land a spot on this thread. There's enough anger in this world already, don't need more here.
  2. Whatever fight has been going on in the clinical psychology posts today needs to stop. I can't tell, but I think someone started trolling pretty hard after this, bragging about 5 acceptances, while someone else posted lengthy guidelines about turning down offers after a week. At first it was pretty funny, then it just got toxic. EDIT: Just to be clear, I agree with the person in this screencap. Preach.
  3. I know this may not make you feel a ton better, but a lot of us are in the same boat on that. It really sucks. I had no idea the silence was worse than an outright rejection until all this started happening -- for me, it's 4 schools. One of them released acceptances and rejections, so I emailed them, and they're staying in touch. I strongly suspect I'm waitlisted but we'll see. My rule of thumb here has been to wait for reports of rejections as well and if I don't get one of those, then I will email the school. It does suck though. The suspense is really bad, and I wish more schools were good about sending acceptances and rejections around the same time to prevent that.
  4. You should -- there is absolutely no shame in that. I'm about to go cry to my therapist here in a few hours. This is a really tough process. @veekee Saaaaaame
  5. Hi!! Congrats, and I love your username! You may find other people admitted to the program here, but you're more likely to find them on one of the social sciences pages here: https://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/15-social-sciences/ (not sure which one your program would fall under, and you may want to check out the medical forums if I'm incorrect about this). I think this page is mostly used for people weighing decisions between two or more schools. It's by no means an exact science though. I get bored and check everything anyways.
  6. Congratulations!!!!! And happy Valentine's Day -- what good news today ?
  7. Fordham seems to be taking this Valentine's Day Massacre business quite seriously.
  8. As much as this sucks, consider it a blessing in disguise. I've heard horror stories about students who go into a well-ranked program, only to find out that the environment is super toxic and the supervisors don't care. I can't believe the department head thinks this is a professional or acceptable way to respond to an email from anyone. Big red flag there, probably saved you from some misery down the line though.
  9. Hey, just dropping in -- I'm a former Fulbright ETA (Germany). If you have any questions about that particular program, shoot me a DM! I'd love to chat
  10. Hey there! Congrats on the offer. That's pretty average for a grad school stipend, from what I have seen. However, grad school stipends are never much compared to what you typically need to live comfortably in a city in the US. You should take a look at some cost of living calculators (here's an example: https://www.nerdwallet.com/cost-of-living-calculator). They'll tell you how far your stipend will go in your selected city, on average. I would say in Maryland with 22.5k you're going to need to live with roommates and keep a tight budget, definitely, but it could be doable.
  11. This is the philosophy acceptances thread - I see in your profile that you're interested in engineering, so you might want to check out their forum here: https://forum.thegradcafe.com/forum/32-engineering/ Congrats on the acceptance though!
  12. I'm wondering the same thing! A lot of applications have checklists though, at the end, and if you're super paranoid you can manually go through it all. I had one school that used a system where you uploaded a doc to a box, and then selected what category the document belonged to (CV, Writing Sample, etc) from a nearby drop-down. It didn't save it properly though because after 24 hours, it was still showing that they hadn't received the CV. Emailed my contact there and they went in and manually applied the changes so that my checklist was all in the green. And I did have one school email me to remind me that they needed a document I'd forgotten, so some of them do that, while some of them just block you from paying the fee and hitting "submit" if you don't have everything uploaded. At this point, if you've been diligent at double and triple checking applications to make sure everything has been received, I assume it's on them if they somehow "miss" it. But given the lack of responses I'm getting from programs at this point, I'm starting to get nervous that everything school I applied to just "missed" my application. I'm sure it's just anxiety on my part but still.
  13. Excitement: I have prospectives' weekend coming up with Baylor! It's simultaneously exciting and anxiety inducing, but definitely a good thing. Worries: I keep seeing people post acceptances for programs I applied to. My inbox is empty--no word on waitlists, rejections....nothing. It's making me feel inadequate, kind of like when someone ghosts you. Any kind of update would be preferable. I suppose I could stop checking the results page, but I don't see the value in keeping myself in the dark either.
  14. Oof that's rough! I would've laugh-cried after that. I have a similar reaction to getting an email notification on my phone literally anytime I get an email. I guess on the bright side, I've unsubscribed from a lot of newsletters because they've angered me by getting my hopes up like this!
  15. Posted in the philosophy forum, but decided to cross-post here for more visibility + opinions: Question for anyone who had to contact a school to find out that they were waitlisted - what is the proper department to reach out to? Graduate school admissions, head of the philosophy graduate department, or someone else entirely? I'm finally ready to ask a couple programs who I think (but I'm not sure) waitlisted or rejected me, but I don't want to make a poor impression by bothering the wrong people.

  17. Do we have anyone else who can claim an acceptance to SLU? Saw 1 report on Facebook and 1 on GradCafe, possibly by the same person. I would have though we would have seen more if they'd sent out all acceptances already. I've assumed if they sent them all out, then I'm rejected, but I'm also genuinely just curious. Is it possible they sent out international acceptances early and are holding off on domestic?
  18. 9:50 AM CST acceptance to a master's program 4:22 PM CST invite to an interview for a PhD. I have noticed heavier traffic on this site between 2-5 CST, and it would make sense that departments don't want to send emails or make calls first thing in the morning!
  19. On the bright side, I promise to come up with some super funny Valentine's related comment for the reports if I'm rejected on Thursday. I hope you all enjoy. ?
  20. I'm assuming all rejections, really. Looks like UK sent out several acceptances already and we have 1 person reporting an acceptance from SLU's Philosophy PhD, and since I haven't heard anything, I'm starting to treat the silence as a presumed rejection. Who knew one of the hardest parts of this, emotionally, would be the silence rather than outright rejection letters?
  21. Seriously. I haven't gotten a single official rejection yet. I'm going to mentally prepare myself and start contacting people tomorrow to inquire about my status.
  22. I talked to my undergrad advisor yesterday, and I feel really at peace with whatever is around the corner for me. I'm still awaiting 6-8 decisions from PhD programs (I have reason to believe I'm waitlisted or rejected at 2, but unsure overall), but, I did get into a good master's program, and if that's what is in store for me next in life, that's okay. It may shape what kind of PhD program I eventually go into, but I can only imagine it would shape it in a good way. Even though I didn't want to go MA first, then PhD, you know what? I'm okay with that, and it could be a good thing. Any way it goes now, I'll be ok. And that's a good feeling.
