@jo0210 Thank you! I had a "rejection" letter from Smith waiting for me at home last night... Took six days to get to me in the mail. A quick email would have saved some stress! (I put rejection in quotes because I really try to avoid thinking in terms of rejection in a dating context. There are different ways to interpret and put meaning to the same events. May as well bring that into this context as well?) My BC scholarship was $30k total. You got $40k total? I guess there's no harm in asking for more! I asked, and they are considering it. Good luck!!

BC's is a non-service tuition remission scholarship. Here's the description of the "April 15 resolution": https://cgsnet.org/april-15-resolution If you look at the PDF (https://cgsnet.org/ckfinder/userfiles/files/CGSResolution_March2019Rv.pdf), University of Chicago is part of that resolution. Hmm... Boston University is too, though they wanted a decision by April 1st, and didn't tell me about the resolution... hmm... I don't know what to say about putting down multiple deposits. I'm curious if anyone else can suggest something!

I wish I'd connected with y'all at the BU admitted students day! (Or maybe I did?) I also sat in a class at BC and BU, which was really helpful. I gave my deposit to BU, but I'm still waiting for Smith, and I'm going to see if BC will increase my scholarship. I got $44k at BU and $30k at BC. Congratulations on getting in, and good luck with any decisions you have left to make!

My Boston College scholarship came with an agreement that I would not accept an offer from another school after accepting the scholarship, without permission from BC... something like that. It was actually an agreement that a group of colleges had decided to use, including the agreement that they wouldn't set their deadlines before April 15th. But I didn't see anything like that with Boston University scholarship. I can look up the details for the Boston College agreement, if that's helpful.

I met someone at BU last weekend who got a Smith acceptance letter two weeks ago. So I thought I would have a rejection letter waiting when I got home. Then I talked with someone at Smith admissions, and they said that they mail out decisions every Monday, and they're still mailing them out until April 15. They didn't mention the acceptance email, and I didn't ask about it. April 15th (plus a few days to receive the mail) would be really late... It's barely six weeks to quit my job, give notice to my landlord, pack, move, and hopefully take a little time to unwind and rest before showing up on May 31st for orientation and the start of a really crazy summer session. It would be hard to wrap up my work projects and do a proper transfer-of-knowledge in two weeks, but I've warned my company that it may have to be like that. Anyway, that's what's on my mind right now! Super-busy with other things, too, so it's not totally overwhelming... but that super-busy is why I want a break before it all starts! And in a year or two, this will be a tiny memory... Hope y'all are well!

I recommend sitting in on a class or two if you have a chance, and then talk with the students after. It lets you get a feel for the class dynamics and the maturity of the students. I found it really useful. There was one school I visited where it became super-clear that I did not want to go there.

I did not! I'm so trained to ignore Facebook and Twitter links that I didn't even notice it... Thanks for telling me about it!

I got into the 2-year programs at BU (w/ $44k scholarship) and BC (w/ $30k scholarship)! Woohoo! (For me and for all of y'all who made it!) I submitted my BU application an hour before midnight (Eastern Time) on the final deadline (Feb 15th). I got the decision on March 15th ? I'm going to visit in a few days. Anyone want to meet up, talk about MSW programs, or explore Boston together? I'll probably be back for the BC Admitted Students Day the following weekend, too... but it's such a long trip from California! This thread has my details:

Anyone want to meet up, talk about MSW programs, or explore Boston together? I'll be visiting from California in a few days to check out BC and BU. I got into both programs, and this is my first chance to visit. I'm also waiting to hear from Smith and San Francisco State (Clinical Counseling). I'll be in Boston from late Thursday (28th) to late Monday (1st). And then I *may* be back from late Sunday (7th) to sometime Tuesday (9th) for BC's Admitted Students Day (depending on how the class visit goes). I'd love to connect with people while I'm there! My Schedule: 29th (Friday): Visiting BC (including class visit). Free before 11, between 12 and 12:45, and 3 to 5:30. Then checking out Cambridge Insight Meditation Center. 30th (Saturday): BU Admitted Students day until 3. Free after that. 31st (Sunday): Free until 2. 1st (Monday): Class visit at BU. Free until 2. 8th (Monday): BC Admitted Students day 1 to 7:30. Free before or after.

@ehipassiko I talked with Smith, and they were very encouraging. Said the deferral letter is a good sign. They would have just sent a denial letter otherwise. Just wanted to pass that on I wanted to do two months at Spirit Rock or six weeks at IMS, but grad school applications (and a chaplaincy internship!) got in the way. Maybe someday... I'm glad to hear there's a lot of other Dharma out there! I don't think there'd be much time to get away during the "semester" at Smith, but probably before/after/during-the-break. It would be nice to connect if I end up in your neck of the woods! Hope you're having a good day!

Thanks, @ehipassiko! Yesterday I got the letter about being deferred to the regular decision pool. I actually felt pretty good to read it, partly because the other option was being denied, and partly because the letter included something about "very impressed with your credentials" and "your application was strong". It's just a form letter, but it was still nice to read. Yes, I am a meditator! I hadn't realized that ehipassiko is Pali! I thought "anatta" would be a silly username... "Hey! It's not me!" I visited a friend at Smith last summer, and I got to meet a bunch of students. There was a good number of Insight/Vipassana meditation practitioners. Some had done some serious retreat time. There was a sitting group for the first half of the summer, before the host got too busy. Where else are you applying? I live in California, near Insight Meditation Center. IMC has become a big part of my support structure, so I figured it's a good idea to find similar support wherever I go (plus I had trouble narrowing down my list of schools). I'm in the process of applying to BU and BC (I hear CIMC is pretty good to be near), plus a few MFT programs around here (there's a *lot* of Dharma, but it's *so* expensive to live here). I also applied to Pitt as a backup, since my GPA guaranteed admission (even though my degrees are in engineering... GPA is a really strange guaranteed admission criteria. Makes me question the program.). Still thinking about applying somewhere else, if I can find time. Was hoping to get an acceptance letter from Smith and get my weekends back from all these applications! I'm clearly excited to see another meditator on here :). Wish you good luck. Sending lots of metta!

@ehipassiko Sorry for more waiting , but hopeful you'll get in! When did you get the letter? I'm on the west coast, so I guess it may take a few more days before I get anything in the mail. I'm glad to hear that deferring is another reason to not have received an email...

Congratulations @mce-123 and @carrythenothing! Excited for you! I've been lurking for a while, and I was finally going to ask if anyone knew whether we'd get a hint about the decision before getting something in the mail. I figured there may be financial aid info posted or something. I need to finish another application this weekend unless I know I got into Smith. But after reading this, I'm not feeling so hopeful... I haven't received any email yet! Ugh!
