I haven't heard of anyone being rejected over the phone - I think that could result in a really awkward call for the coordinator.... I have heard of people being waitlisted over the phone though, or they might want to talk about funding or prerequisites? Of course, it could be acceptance, too! Good luck!

I think something along the lines of: Thank you for your consideration for admission to your program. After much thought, I have chosen to move forward with another offer. I appreciate your time in this matter and wish you all the best.

I'm in the same boat - deciding between two programs! I know everyone says to write a pros and cons list, etc. etc. But honestly, I think we generally already know which choice we want in many cases, we're just scared of committing to one thing and potentially losing out on another. It sounds that while Program 1 looks better on paper, you really liked the feeling you got from Program 2. I had a really great mentor once tell me to flip a coin - not to decide heads or tails, but because when it's in midair you know which side you want it to land on.

I can only speak to my experience a few years ago with masters level programs but I was initially accepted in 1 program, rejected by 1, and waitlisted at 3. I eventually was accepted by all 3 where I was waitlisted. I know doc programs have few openings and are more competitive, but don't count yourself out! I also know a girl who applied to SLP programs, and got into none. She emailed the programs over the summer just to ask if they had anyone back out and one accepted her because someone did.

Just turned down an offer to the University of Kentucky so hopefully someone gets some good news soon! Also - why is it so nerve-wracking to send that decline e-mail??

Answering generic interview questions (clinical psych)
mcgonagal replied to absolutelynott's topic in Psychology Forum
I typically do the "CV review" but make it a narrative and more personal - like why I chose to go that route or what skills I learned in a position and why that pushed me to where I am now. -
If you know who you're interviewing with ahead of time I'd look up their general research interests and maybe read their most recent stuff but I don't think they expect you to know much about people other than the faculty you want to work under. I think it's mostly experience based, clinical, research, teaching, etc. Definitely know how to describe your research interests and career aspirations.

I think it still qualifies as the "beginning of January!" I don't think people on the results page lie - but again they could I guess. I don't see what the motivation to do so would be as it's anonymous? I totally get your anxiety though! I've been checking every few hours in hope of good (or any!) news! Good luck and I hope you hear back this week!

Hi everyone! I've been reading through past and current threads and noticed School Psych didn't have anything for Fall 2020, so I decided we should have a place, too! What programs are you all planning to apply to? What criteria do you have? Does anyone have any advice - because I need it! I've completed my EdS but decided I'd like to continue on to get my PhD; here's my list so far: University of Minnesota, Northern Illinois University, Indiana State University, University of Kentucky, University of Wisconsin, University of Cincinnati, and Texas A&M. Let me know if you're applying to any of the same places and/or if you have any thoughts on these programs! I am excited to hear about everyone else's applications and how everything's going!
