Rejected from Western, which I already assumed since I didn't interview there. However, I was in contact with a professor earlier on who said we had a great fit and encouraged me to apply to their program. Would it be okay if I sent them an email asking how I can improve my application for next time?

Absolutely! Don’t be discouraged if they say it was just a competitive year. Sometimes you’re the perfect applicant but they have to find a way to choose between multiple. Feel free to DM me for templates I’ve used.

Did anyone else get an email from Ryerson about a new faculty member joining and taking graduate students? It says the email is "going out to a subset of applicants to Ryerson’s clinical program". I wonder what determined who got the email.

Yes, I received this as well. I also received an email this morning asking me to write a 150 word statement on why my research interests align with hers.

This is actually a really good, practical suggestion. Thank you. I have a good job now that I am confident I could keep if need be, but it just isn't adding anything to my application, so looking for clinical or research experience  would be a really good idea. What will you do if you get an offer before you know about schooling?

You are most welcome! I will more than likely hear about schools before a job accepts me for September start date (I am currently in an MA and will only defend in August). In the unlikely event that I do get a job offer before hearing about an acceptance, I would probably take the job...If I am then accepted to a program, I would just kindly explain that there has been a change in plans and I will be attending school instead and thank you for the opportunity etc etc :)

Something my current advisor told me is that the best way to take a year off when you dont get in for a cycle, is to get a job - any job - and focus on research. Hop on a former PI's project as an RA and ask for enough work to gain authorship, continue any side projects from your undergrad/masters and try to publish or present, attend conferences, make connections, etc. The committee will look to see what you did during the year "off" and they will be most impressed if you were able to maintain your research and network throughout. I hope this helps!

The waiting is the worst part for me, especially because I can't  make any plans for my life in the next year until I know where I'll be. Does anyone have tips for getting your mind off of it or dealing with that?

I'm finding it especially hard right now  because I still have an interview that I'm preparing for, so it's not like I can push it completely aside.

I know that no matter what happens I will be okay, but the uncertainty sucks. Do you guys feel like this? Or how are you coping?

I completely agree. It's really tough, especially when my anxiety is rooted from the "unknown" aspects of life.

I coped by applying for research positions at local hospitals and sending out resumes to other jobs. This way, I know I will have a plan A and plan B. I can always apply for jobs and turn them down if I get accepted to a clinical program...but I can guarantee I will get more anxious if I don't get accepted anywhere AND I dont have a job in place for the interim.

Thus, my suggestion would be to make an alternate plan that is appropriately manageable if you do or do not end up with an acceptance. Like a poster said above, we will get through this application cycle TOGETHER, one way or another :)

    I'm sorry :(

This is my second time applying to UBC, but I didn't (yet) get this email. I didn't get the chance to interview so I guess it's not the best of news either.

Maybe they straight up forgot about me this year lol

Hang in there! One way or another we'll get through this application season.

Sorry you received disappointing news ❤️ But based on your signature, you have 8 other chances, I hope something goes well for you!

Thank you both for the kind words. I appreciate it more than you know :)

    UBC rejections just went out

Sorry for the bland post - I was kind of disappointed and didn't think straight when writing this. I received a generic template email along the lines of "we regret to inform you that your application was unsuccessful....best of luck in your endeavours etc etc.". This was for UBC-V. Msg me for POI initials if you want.

Also for anyone who applied to Ryerson and didn't receive an interview/Visiting Day invite, don't lose hope! I have been informed that "some faculty members are not able to participate in Visiting Day, and are conducting separate interviews. As a result, not all short-listed applicants are being invited to the Visiting Day."

Thank you for this information!! Would you happen to have any insight as to which profs are not taking part?

    Hi everyone,

This is my first time on this thread and my second year applying. This time around, I applied to 8 schools. I have a love-hate relationship with this forum, as I am sure most of you do. I am definitely starting to feeling tense about hearing back from schools. :) I hope everyone is taking measures to calm their nerves ❤️

I had a couple questions regarding updates from a couple of schools, aside from what I read on the Results page.

    - Does anyone know if all of the Western invites to their interview day have been sent out?
    - I saw that multiple people have asked about Queens, but I haven't seen any responses. I also am curious if anyone has heard back from any profs there.
    - Does Waterloo host an interview day or just does individual interviews?
    - Just wanted to confirm: no one has heard back yet from UBC-O or Ottawa?

Sorry about all of the questions. Thank you in advance!

Ottawa will be sending out offers by the third week of February
