  1. I am in the same boat. FInancial aid/scholarships will be a huge factor and I can always do a second round if I don't get the proper aid to attend this upcoming fall.
  2. In any case, I did apply to two programs at Yale. First, I will see whether I get in. Second, I will see what money they will give me. Plus the community of Yalies are pretty nice. One of my close friends attends there and she LOVES it. So no regrets.
  3. Just give material and media and year for the work. They are going to be too busy to read through heavy descriptions.
  4. Trying to take a huge break and work in the art studio during the holidays. Exploring new avenues. Next month will be fun.
  5. Yale art program is fully funded if you qualify. Basically I suspect your family has to be impoverished.
  6. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-residency_program
  7. I like the 2 year program better. Plus you can network after you graduate. Maybe this is all financial for me at this point. However, if you get a full ride to a 3 year program don't decline it LoL
  8. I applied to 11
  9. I don't want to mention this but apparently Yale factors in your PARENTS' income into the equation! That isn't equitable. Even though my mom helps me, I still live independently and I shouldn't have my parents' finances being looked at for any MFA programs!
  10. I would give about 1-2 months to get photographs done of your works. For me, I had a bunch of tapestries and paintings which took me nearly 12 months to do due to a long lead time :).
  11. USC still is trying to recover its program after its disaster years ago. Even though I am trying to place myself in LA or NY areas, I went with Calarts, UCLA, and Art Center.
  12. I think it's a recent change in fact that Yale is doing full rides only for drama students now :o. Got some moolah recently from what I heard. https://news.yale.edu/2021/06/30/gift-david-geffen-yales-drama-school-goes-tuition-free The David Geffen funding doesn't work for art MFAs sorry
  13. I know that top tier MFA programs prefer to avoid this. Definitely not Yale or Columbia usually.
  14. Why Yale. Very simple! Because it's one of the legendary programs which can be a "golden ticket" into the contemporary art world. https://i-d.vice.com/en/article/bj3jvz/this-is-what-its-like-to-get-a-yale-school-of-art-mfa-degree and https://news.artnet.com/art-world/mfa-degree-successful-artists-620891 "Yale and the “Power Law” If you can, is it worth going to graduate school for art, though? The answer is fairly clear. Yes—if you go to Yale. Over this 50-year period, Yale’s Graduate School of Art has pumped out nearly 10 percent of all our successful artists." Indeed, Yale is that important.
  15. I would keep any repeat artworks to a minimum. I also applied for the same program too!
  16. I just paid for my Yale sculpture application this morning so I am officially done early with all 11 program MFA applications. No clue about UGA however, Gaara. If anyone needs advice on essay writing or portfolio management, then so ask :). I will be doing some third party work with my girlfriend to save up some money to play for the MFA program. I hope to get some scholarships.
  17. I was advised strongly against applying to Otis as a backup school by three separate folks. a) a Calarts professor, b) a Calarts MFA graduate and working artist, and c) an Otis MFA graduate who is represented by a top end gallery in LA. I am focusing only on schools where there is a high level of critical theory and/or a gateway to the highest tiers of the contemporary art world. Person B said it's pretty much the top 10 MFA programs or don't even bother.
  18. How are you liking the program at SAIC and which track are you in? Are you getting visits from curators and gallerists?
  19. Here are all 11 programs I applied to: 1) Yale University- painting and drawing (completed but unpaid due to third party vendor issue) 2) Yale University- sculpture (completed but unpaid due to third party vendor issue) 3) UCLA- new genres 4) Columbia University- printmaking 5) School of Art Institute of Chicago- painting and drawing 6) School of Art Institute of Chicago- photography 7) School of Art Institute of Chicago- sculpture 8) CalArts- studio art 9) CalArts- photography 10) CalArts- art and technology 11) ArtCenter College of Design- studio art and that's it folks!
  20. Cheers this is from last year's application process for this thread
  21. A few minutes ago I just finished up my UCLA app which means I am done with all 11 applications and 9 turned in except Yale which right now has an issues with its payment vendor online
  22. I am working on my UCLA new genres application and this will be my last one. I should be finished with all of my 11 program applications and now it will be a waiting game for interviews.
  23. Working on my Columbia MFA printmaking app and tomorrow starting on my two Yale apps.f
  24. I am done with all of my 3 applications for CalArts including every single Integrated Media essay tonight. I still have to do the 3 sets of portfolios and then submit and pay the fees. Once that's done, I have four applications left.
  25. Three applications out of 11 are completed including the letters of recommendation!
