  1. This article is a good point of reference- https://news.artnet.com/art-world/mfa-degree-successful-artists-620891 Note this: " Yale and the “Power Law” If you can, is it worth going to graduate school for art, though? The answer is fairly clear. Yes—if you go to Yale. Over this 50-year period, Yale’s Graduate School of Art has pumped out nearly 10 percent of all our successful artists."
  2. Just finished my ArtCenter MFA application and paid the fee. 10 more programs to go. (Just need my letters of rec and transcript mailings)
  3. Thanks and I am over 50% done with my ArtCenter application. Drafted the essay and the response answers as well.
  4. The ArtCenter MFA Art application for Fall 2023 has opened up and I already have started to fill out the apropos forms just now.
  5. I think that University of Georgia is a fully funded which is very good for painting/drawing
  6. I am going to be applying to visual arts MFA... dependent on school mostly photography, painting/drawing, printmaking, sculpture, new genres. I don't have a final 10-11 on my list but my focus is to get to Los Angeles mostly. So basically ArtCenter, Otis, UCLA, Calarts, etc. (no USC). Yale and SAIC are my main focuses out of that area.
  7. And it's never too early to start. I am planning to apply to 10-11 different MFA programs. Slowly figuring out the logistics and getting folks lined up for letters of recommendation. More details to arrive here later.
  8. MFA programs are designed with maximal diversity of ages and folks from various backgrounds. It depends on where you are at for your MFA... if not too private, which place are you at?
  9. One of my friends got rejected...
  10. Geography for me is going to be the largest factor when I apply this fall to graduate programs. Things have changed so much during the past year but I will update that in a future thread here.
  11. Rankings only mean so much. To be honest, if you find a cohort of people you want to work and hang out with, that would be much more meaningful here.
  12. I have a close friend attending the sculpture program at Yale atm.
  13. Sweet and thanks for the info! :)
  14. Basically my interpretation would be that it would be every program where a terminal degree was earned. BFA, BS, BA, etc. and masters and Ph.D.'s.
  15. That sounds like a very unstable situation :(. Thanks for the update.
  16. Good job with your applications! I don't know much about the Florida MFA scene.
  17. I just took a random look at a huge gallery to see what they did and here is an example: https://www.pacegallery.com/exhibitions/robert-longo/ Looks like that they crop down to the edges of the work (here it's works on paper specifically).
  18. I have a friend who attended the MFA program at PAFA and he enjoyed it for what it was. He has done pretty well in the Philadelphia area. (I used to live there a long time ago.)
  19. My huge woohoo is Calarts. VIsited the campus this summer and wow. It's my vibe! Open ended to the max. Critical theory heavy. That's all I need.
  20. I would crop down to the image of the painting itself unless the painting has sculpture elements. Just my guess here.
  21. Agreed here. Portfolio is going to be the primary aspect.
  22. Which Bard program? We have the regular Bard one and then there is the ICP-Bard one for photography out in the Big Apple.
  23. Indeed the best advice is to tailor each application separately for the school you are applying for and not to use a predetermined mold for each application. After all, the committee wants to know that you are engaged specifically with their program and not a generic applicant.
