I would give about 1-2 months to get photographs done of your works. For me, I had a bunch of tapestries and paintings which took me nearly 12 months to do due to a long lead time :).

USC still is trying to recover its program after its disaster years ago. Even though I am trying to place myself in LA or NY areas, I went with Calarts, UCLA, and Art Center.

I think it's a recent change in fact that Yale is doing full rides only for drama students now :o. Got some moolah recently from what I heard. https://news.yale.edu/2021/06/30/gift-david-geffen-yales-drama-school-goes-tuition-free The David Geffen funding doesn't work for art MFAs sorry

I know that top tier MFA programs prefer to avoid this. Definitely not Yale or Columbia usually.
-
Why Yale. Very simple! Because it's one of the legendary programs which can be a "golden ticket" into the contemporary art world. https://i-d.vice.com/en/article/bj3jvz/this-is-what-its-like-to-get-a-yale-school-of-art-mfa-degree and https://news.artnet.com/art-world/mfa-degree-successful-artists-620891 "Yale and the “Power Law” If you can, is it worth going to graduate school for art, though? The answer is fairly clear. Yes—if you go to Yale. Over this 50-year period, Yale’s Graduate School of Art has pumped out nearly 10 percent of all our successful artists." Indeed, Yale is that important.

I would keep any repeat artworks to a minimum. I also applied for the same program too!

I just paid for my Yale sculpture application this morning so I am officially done early with all 11 program MFA applications. No clue about UGA however, Gaara. If anyone needs advice on essay writing or portfolio management, then so ask :). I will be doing some third party work with my girlfriend to save up some money to play for the MFA program. I hope to get some scholarships.

I was advised strongly against applying to Otis as a backup school by three separate folks. a) a Calarts professor, b) a Calarts MFA graduate and working artist, and c) an Otis MFA graduate who is represented by a top end gallery in LA. I am focusing only on schools where there is a high level of critical theory and/or a gateway to the highest tiers of the contemporary art world. Person B said it's pretty much the top 10 MFA programs or don't even bother.

How are you liking the program at SAIC and which track are you in? Are you getting visits from curators and gallerists?
-
Here are all 11 programs I applied to: 1) Yale University- painting and drawing (completed but unpaid due to third party vendor issue) 2) Yale University- sculpture (completed but unpaid due to third party vendor issue) 3) UCLA- new genres 4) Columbia University- printmaking 5) School of Art Institute of Chicago- painting and drawing 6) School of Art Institute of Chicago- photography 7) School of Art Institute of Chicago- sculpture 8) CalArts- studio art 9) CalArts- photography 10) CalArts- art and technology 11) ArtCenter College of Design- studio art and that's it folks!

A few minutes ago I just finished up my UCLA app which means I am done with all 11 applications and 9 turned in except Yale which right now has an issues with its payment vendor online
-
I am working on my UCLA new genres application and this will be my last one. I should be finished with all of my 11 program applications and now it will be a waiting game for interviews.
-
Working on my Columbia MFA printmaking app and tomorrow starting on my two Yale apps.f
-
I am done with all of my 3 applications for CalArts including every single Integrated Media essay tonight. I still have to do the 3 sets of portfolios and then submit and pay the fees. Once that's done, I have four applications left.
-
Three applications out of 11 are completed including the letters of recommendation!
-
Doing my MFA applications early because it's so so hard to get letters of recommendations completed :(. On the other hand I am busy helping to run a gallery I started with a colleague 2 years ago and busy doing classes and an art fair for the gallery (not my art) so gotta plan ahead
-
All of the CalArts MFA program applications opened up today so 3 more applications to do. I still am awaiting a pro photo of one of my sculptures so I can wrap up my SAIC sculpture application.
-
Just turned in my SAIC photography MFA application this morning and now working on my SAIC painting/drawing application tonight and tomorrow.
-
I am going to hedge my bet and go for the scholarship route
-
Indeed. I am going to post things which are specific to my own experiences :). My goal primarily is to enter into the cutting-edge contemporary art world.

This article is a good point of reference- https://news.artnet.com/art-world/mfa-degree-successful-artists-620891 Note this: " Yale and the “Power Law” If you can, is it worth going to graduate school for art, though? The answer is fairly clear. Yes—if you go to Yale. Over this 50-year period, Yale’s Graduate School of Art has pumped out nearly 10 percent of all our successful artists."

Just finished my ArtCenter MFA application and paid the fee. 10 more programs to go. (Just need my letters of rec and transcript mailings)
-
Thanks and I am over 50% done with my ArtCenter application. Drafted the essay and the response answers as well.

The ArtCenter MFA Art application for Fall 2023 has opened up and I already have started to fill out the apropos forms just now.
