Canadian SLP Declining Offers Thread 2020

Hi everyone, I got an offer at McMaster off the waitlist a few days ago and will be declining the offer, so hopefully that will open up a spot for one of you. I was #16 on waitlist. Good luck! -

Hi! McGill sent us an e-mail that classes will mostly take place remotely in the Fall, but fall semester will not be cancelled. They mentioned they are working into safely opening research labs, so there is potential that some labs and on-campus activities may take place in person, however these activities will also be offered virtually for students who cannot be in Montreal at the time. -

The issue is I'm not accepting any offers from Ontario since I'm accepting McGill, so I don't think it will take me off waitlist : ( Thanks for your insight! -

Does anyone know if there's a way to decline waitlist for McMaster? I would think there should be so that other people on the waitlist can move up, but ORPAS doesn't give you the option to do so, and I'm looking on my student account but there doesn't seem to be an option either. Thanks! -

Hi! I will be rejecting my offers at Western, U of T, and my waitlist position (#16) at McMaster! I will be accepting McGill. Good luck everyone! -

Hi Matt, congrats on getting accepted! Out of curiosity - do you mind sharing why you're choosing McGill over U of T if it is program-related? Thanks -

Hi Tulipz! Congrats on getting accepted! I'm in the same boat as you - going back and forth between the two. I know McGill has part time theoretical learning and part time placements, whereas Toronto has full time theory then full time placement based on your last theory block. From what I've heard, the structure at Toronto makes it easier to keep up with your work and you end up with more practica. But the theoretical-based approach at McGill can be beneficial as well. It depends on what type of learner you are. Any advice from your end would help too! Good luck -

Hi everyone! Congrats on those who got accepted, and good luck to those on waitlist! I got accepted to McGill, U of T and Western, and am waitlist #16 at McMaster. I will most likely be declining my offer at Western. I am going back and forth between U of T and McGill. Does anyone have any useful insight that may help steer my decision? Thank you! -

But there's also "overall GPA" at the top of the chart, which is a different number from average?? -

Also - does anyone know what the "average" means on ORPAS on the sub-gpa chart? The difference between my "average" compared to my "sub-gpa" is drastic and my average is much lower... I'm confused about what this means! -

Hi everyone! I wish you all the best of luck in your speech journeys! I applied to McGill, Toronto, McMaster, Western, and Ottawa. I was so eager to submit my applications already that I gave myself a deadline to have them all submitted before the actual school deadlines, so when it came to that night, I submitted my letters without being fully confident in them. I started editing them last minute then failed to read them over properly before I submitted. Now, every time I read them over, there are a million things I wish I could change! I wanted to know if anyone else was in the same boat as me? Feeling okay about your letter before submitting it and then reading it over and feeling super bleh about it? I've been struggling with accepting the fact that it's submitted and am feeling super anxious about it. -
