  1. Oh wow, good to know! I was under the impression that the grad coordinator sends out the official invite for interview day. Do you know if this prof has conducted prelims? Also, just generally do you know if all profs conduct prelims before sending out official invites?
  2. Hi! I'm curious if you mean "send out invites for prelims" or send out official invites to the interview day?
  3. Hi, to the person on the results page who posted that they received a rejection from York: if you are comfortable, do you mind dming me?
  4. I agree with you on preferring to be overdressed than underdressed. Because of that I wore a blazer and blouse. Although in my interviews, one prof was wearing a t-shirt and in another the prof was wearing a Patagonia sweater... lol. Edit: these were 1-1 interviews, not department/program interview days
  5. I had the very same thought ?
  6. This, all of this. The exact same thing happened to me last cycle. Rejection was so much harder because I was so "sure" that I would get in at this specific program. I think it's important to remain hopeful and have a generally positive attitude, but this year I am remaining much more realistic about the possibility of outcomes and more mentally and emotionally balanced. It is so important to protect your mental health during this process. This isn't meant to bring people down, but I wish I had known last year that literally things can change up until the very last minute (like they did for me). The outcome does not reflect our potential or competency, it's just that the process can be idiosyncratic and so much is way beyond our control or based on information we're not privy to. I really hope this process becomes more transparent and less difficult on the applicants because right now I feel that a lot of this is pretty unnecessary and could be ironed out beforehand.
  7. I understand you wanting to reach out, I think most of us are feeling a similar way. ❤️ Although, I have received guidance to absolutely not do this. The only time it is appropriate to reach out in the middle of an app cycle is if you interview formally and it has been a considerable time since you were informed you would hear back, and/or when formal rejections/acceptances have gone out and you haven't heard anything yet. Or, yes it does have the potential to be perceived negatively. You may end up interacting with this POI in a professional sense in the future, so I think it's important to remain as professional as possible throughout the app cycle. I do not doubt your email would be professional, but it's kind of an unwritten etiquette to have patience throughout this super arduous and long process. Lastly, if you decide you want to reach out, I would suggest touching base with the program coordinator and not the POI.
  8. To the second poster on the results page who received an interview form Concordia: if you're comfortable, could you dm me? Thank you!
  9. A little heads up.. Most people on here are cool, some are trolls. Beware! Do not take everything everyone has to say at face value. That goes for the results section as well.
  10. I was just about to post this! I have yet to find the public disclosure tables for York's clinical program, but their handbook states that they typically receive 150-180 applications and admit around 8 students. Also, I think it's important to remain realistic about the increase in applications this year and the potential increase in competitiveness. However, I think we could all use a little moral boost at this time and remember that not everyone has chosen to work with your POI and much of the increase we are seeing this round is coming from non-competitive applicants (according to some chatter between faculty on academic twitter). It takes a long time to prepare for graduate school. Program's typically see (across graduate studies) a large increase in apps during an economic downturn (this happened in 2008). I think it's important to understand there has been an increase in applications, but keep your heads high and don't let those high numbers psych you out!
  11. I am wondering the same thing. York has a very large psychology department. These are the following specialization in graduate studies in psychology. Brain, Behaviour and Cognitive Science Clinical Psychology Clinical Neuropsychology Clinical Developmental Psychology Clinical Neuropsychology Developmental Science Historical, Theoretical and Critical Studies of Psychology Quantitative Methods Social and Personality @sparrow123 is more likely that they received 1000 applications for their whole department?
  12. For those who are receiving invites from UVIC from the results page, do you mind dming me? Thank you and congrats!!!
  13. I completely understand how you're feeling! It's so hard to wait on receiving news. Although, it might help to know that communication between the programs and applicants to inform of interviews, etc. are done through email. Most, if not all, portals will only be updated if you receive an offer of admission (a formal letter indicating a funding package, etc) or a rejection letter. For clinical psych programs, those are communicated after an interview process. I am not aware of any clinical programs in Canada that make offers without interviewing applicants. I may be wrong on this as I've heard anecdotally that UAlberta's school/clinical program may do so, and way long ago on the results page someone said they received an offer from McGill without an interview. Virtually none of my portals changed throughout the entire cycle until the end, March/April. I would make sure to check your spam folders and other folders in your email inbox for communication! And just a heads up, for Calgary's clinical program, the program coordinator sends invites en masse to everyone on one specific day with the POI cc'd. Historically it has been on the first/second week of Jan. Hope that helps!
  14. Hi, to the Concordia poster on the results page: was your interview invite sent from your POI or the department? Feel free to dm me! Thank you
  15. https://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=Clinical+Psychology Or you can search for your specific school. For example, "Ryerson clinical psychology" Hope that helps!
  16. Same ? Was it a formal invite from the program coordinator, or an email from your POI? Not looking to pry for POI info, just curious if it was a formal invite! Thanks!
  17. https://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=Clinical+Psychology Or you can search with a specific university name. For example, "Ryerson clinical psychology"
  18. To the person who posted an interview with Queens on the results page: if you happen to see this, do you mind dming me your POI?
  19. Unfortunately, I don't think you are eligible. This is one of the reasons why programs take a limited number of (or explicitly state they cannot take any) international students. Most external government based funding for MA/PhD programs is only available to Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Wish you the best of luck with your applications! Funding isn't everything and if you applied to programs that are accepting international students then I am sure they will be aware that you cannot apply for external funding. Hope that helps!
  20. FYI this is actually program dependent. I know people who have applied to a POI's lab who are also their reference. Some schools specifically say that they do not allow this, but not all!
  21. Thank you so much for this! I was going to post something similar. I know many grad students who were accepted with a similar background as you (if not most). Not everyone has the privilege to gain pubs/presentations/RA positions to the extent of others during their undergrad and after. Many applicants, either non-traditional, or otherwise have to work full-time, may come from small universities with less RA positions or opportunities, are unable to afford the costs of travelling to present research at conferences, and therefore have visibly smaller CVs. Universities and professors are becoming increasingly aware of these disparities. If you can sell the heck out of yourself and your potential and how your experiences have been meaningful, you have a chance! Good luck to everyone, we've all worked so hard to get here! ❤️
  22. Hi! From what I know, most mainly look at the final two years and are generally looking for an upwards trend in grades from first year on. Some will ask that you have a specific CCGPA and/or last two year GPA in order to apply, but once you have passed the minimum threshold, I think research experience, posters, publications are looked at with more weight than GPA (from my knowledge).
  23. I am sorry that you received disappointing news so early on in the application cycle. Did you check to see if you met the minimum GPA requirements to apply? I recommend cross referencing your undergrad institution grading/GPA scale with the school you plan to apply to. There can be differences between universities on this. So, your A- might not be an A- at their institution. The first step in the app review process is usually the university will make sure all minimum requirements are met before forwarding the applications to the psych department. Do you have any mentors (prof or grad students) you would feel comfortable reaching out to? My mentors have been invaluable throughout this process and have been honest with me about my odds, expectations, and experience as an applicant to clin psych. Also, if things don't work out this year, you are still only coming out of your undergrad. It usually takes 1-3 cycles to be accepted into a clin psych program. I would suggest finding a full time RA position where you can obtain authorship and presentations to supplement not having an honours degree. Clin psych programs are research heavy and put a lot of emphasis on research experience compared to other advanced degrees in psychology. Hope that helps! Many of us here are applying for the 2nd or 3rd, so don't lose hope- it may just be a longer journey than you anticipated!
