  1. I feel you. Decisions are starting to roll in on the result page. (None of my programs is on there, so I'm still optimistic.) But it still really sucks that I haven't heard anything back. I had informal interviews with a PI earlier this month. He was hopeful, but anything can change. I think the pandemic kinda delays everything too. I hope you get admitted to the programs that you want. : )
  2. It depends on the programs that you wish to apply. (competitiveness, ranking, their requirements) But many schools are eliminating GRE requirements though. If the school that you want to apply still wants the GRE, 310+ would be more of a safe range, in my opinion, in order to secure the funding. However, I think they'll consider other aspects of your application as well (GPA, references, experiences, SOP, etc). Good luck on your application!
  3. If I were you, I'd continue to work for at least a year and gain more research experience. And it'd be great if there's some publications. We cannot change the past, but GPA can't dictate everything. I'm not sure about the GRE though. 7/8 schools that I plan to apply this year eliminate the GRE requirement. (optional and "please don't send us the score")
  4. If you're not getting a response/ reply-back from the potential PI, are you still going to apply for that program? I'm not sure whether they're just busy, uncertain, not taking any students, or simply have no interest in my application. Are there anyone who has an experience when you didn't got a response but still got accepted?
  5. Hi guys, I do have some questions for some of you who (have) applied to grad schools or anyone who might have some tips. I'm interested in a certain field in Physics, but I didn't have a research background in that area. It was a class (+ lab components) that got me interested. How do I convince the potential PI that I'm serious/committed to the study? How can I show them that I can be a good fit? Stay safe
  6. Thank you so much for words of encouragement! I'm also gonna apply for the 2021 cycle with an external funding. I hope I secure some good schools.
  7. Personally, I prefer the test center to my home. I don't want to deal with the internet connection, minor issues, or something that could go wrong with ProctorU/camera, which might distract me from the test itself. (I don't know. But I'm just nervous.) If the test center still operates, I will choose that option. I'm also applying for the 2021 cycle too. Best of luck. It's surely a tough year. ?
  8. I'm not sure if I'm gonna graduate on time. I feel weird asking my current PI to write me a letter of recommendation. I'm worried my GRE will be just as mediocre.
  9. I'm just wondering whether or not external-funded students will have a higher chance of getting in for this application cycle. ?
  10. Seen several people here took a GRE at home. There have been some issues.
  11. I also have a low-undergrad GPA. I feel like the research/job experience helps a lot in the application. Having a high GRE score will get you to their front doors. They want to know that you're able to conduct an original research and think critically. I'm currently doing a Master's and try to get a better GPA to apply for the PhD. I don't know if I answer your question.
