  1. Has anyone got any news from MIT AeroAstro, especially for masters? Admit, interview, waitlist, reject?
  2. You people are scared because you get interviews? I am scared 'cause I'm not getting an interview ???
  3. No I haven't contacted them. Have you? How's their response?
  4. I was a bit unhinged at the deadline being postponed although by just a day. Does it mean that there are fewer applicants?
  5. When will the results be out?
  6. Oh! They didn't call me. I had submitted towards the deadline though... Getting tensed now ? Is your interview done? How did it go?
  7. Feel free to discuss regarding application on the above mentioned fields for the Fall 2021 season!
  8. What sort of questions do they ask?
  9. I have absolutely no clue. Probably my essay is convincing. Or it may be extremely boring. No clue!
  10. Hi @chinmaygarg As you say here, CMU has RI which is the best. But still you had second thoughts about choosing that. Can you please mention why you thought so, as in did the fees, overall atmosphere, or some factor like that have a role in this?
  11. I'm done with my app but neither of the two recommenders have sent their recos. I've reminded both anyway.
  12. I wish someone responds to this!
  13. I'm in the same scenario, though my recos seem a bit stronger. One prof has been guiding me in a research project not even close to my main interest for 2 years and he knows me pretty well, both positives and negatives. I have other profs who have guided me in short-term projects slightly related to my interest I'd mostly go with the former but may go with the latter as well if four or five recos are permitted
  14. The following opinion was provided in a letter to the editor of a national aeronautics magazine: "Manned space flight is costly and dangerous. Moreover, the recent success of a series of unmanned space probes and satellites has demonstrated that a great deal of useful information can be gathered without the costs and risks associated with sending men and women into space. Therefore, we should invest our resources in unmanned space flight." Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted. ---------------------------------- The letter to the editor provides some understanding about why unmanned space flights may be a better option than manned space flights. However, the letter remains riddled with several assumptions which the author fails to address. The author commences by mentioning the cost involved in manned space flight resulting in unmanned space flights being a superior option to manned ones. However, the letter fails to provide solid evidence for supporting the claim that manned flights will require a significantly larger expenditure than unmanned ones. It can also be a case that, at the same cost, the utility involved in unmanned space flights may be far inferior than manned flights due to the incapability of man-made robots to emulate all behavioral, physical and collaborative aspects of human beings. Considering the second part of same statement, the letter lacks statistical evidence to state that manned space flight is dangerous. Manned space flight is managed by a huge team of aeronautical and aerospace experts, and has a meagre possibility for collision with another spacecraft due to the enormous effort and long duration of research performed on aspects such as path planning, structural design planning, and the development of mission specifications. Furthermore, while mentioning about recent successes for unmanned space probes and satellites, the author fails to mention how this success has been quantified. While success is supposed to be the completion of the required mission task, it may also be plausible that the success has been exaggerated by several platforms to an extent that may not even include any significant mission completion. Moreover, the author fails to mention the kind of information which was gathered by the series of unmanned space probes, since sending humans into space may result in a better quality and quantity of collected information. In the light of these assumptions, it does not deem fit to consider the argument of the author without further research performed on the basis of performance both statistically and scientifically. The provided argument does not provide enough evidence for unmanned space flight to be superior over sending men and women into space.
  15. Men and women, because of their inherent physical differences, are not equally suited for many tasks. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position. ---------------------------------- Modern times have called forth for modern solutions to the long discussed issue of gender-based task completion. The author brings in a reference to this controversial issue and holds on to the motion that tasks performed by men and women differ in quality as a result of innate physical differences, a concept which I support to some extent. Due to the cultural and social development of the patriarchal society, the man has remained as the head of the family for ages. Although some may consider this to simply have social implications, as a result of their position, men have developed stronger appetites and related needs in the family, one which has developed their bodies more than females. Moreover, the basic male structure consisting of the skeletal and muscular systems have had superior qualities over the female counterpart. This can be used to argue that tasks that require muscle power are better performed by men than by women, which is provable on a statistical basis to a large extent as well. This is not to mention that there are exceptions such as female wrestlers or gymnasts, but it is well known that, even in fields such as athletics, overall records are usually secured by males. While it seems unlikely to find a larger proportion of females on a construction site or a manufacturing unit, it is equally unlikely to find more male teachers over female teachers in a school. This can be considered as an implication of the higher levels of empathy that females tend to show towards other humans when compared to males. Such qualities, alongside higher levels of proficiency and clarity in conveying concepts, have promoted the rise of the female-to-male ratio in school teaching and management. This is also a reason why jobs that involve conversational guidance such as secretaries and psychiatrists tend to have a larger female-to-male ratio. In societies where education stands as the highest preference such as several communities in the Indian state of Kerala, a gradual shift to a matriarchal setting has also been observed. Many individuals and organizations argue for equal employment for both genders in several sectors of the society. While this seems to provide some sort of equity for the society, it disturbs the natural balance that has been provided to sustain the development of these sectors. On a closer look, the inequality observed in task differentiation today seems more straightforward and predictable due to the thoroughgoing foundation of thousands of years. Although exploration of such policies seems interesting, exploitation of the best option will result in an optimal solution.
  16. But the grad school has mentioned that 4 is fine, right?
