  1. I am international student so there are many things I am yet to learn about renting an apartment in the US One thing that I do not understand: if I sign a lease so early, when do I start paying for an apartment? Do I start paying as soon as I sign? So that if I sign several months before I come, I pay for all this time though I am not living in the apartment? And if I don't do that - how can landlords can be sure I WILL come and WILL start paying??
  2. Terrible and crazy Other posters are right, you are to good for this place, you would not want to work with these people anyway. Good luck with other applications!
  3. Yes, that's really promising!
  4. There are some people here who say you should wait so I want to reiterate (though it is my humble opinion, of course ). If you wait - they might just forget details of your app and why you were rejected. They remember them now, they have just been discussing your app with ad comms. But in a few month they will have to rack their brains thinking why oh why this guy was rejected There is nothing bad in being sad and impatient. Waiting for results is stressful, rejections are painful, they must understand that. Just make sure you sound polite and show that you are not angry with your POI, just curious why you were rejected. Sound professional, but not to curt, emotional but not hysterical And it will be fine. I did that - it was great. I showed my POI how much I appriciate their help in the application process and thought I am sad I am able to move on. We exchanged a couple of letters and now I know that if I meet that person at a conference there will be no uneasiness between us.
  5. In a few months a POI might forget details about application. There is nothing wrong in doing it right now, I believe. I did that right after I was rejected from a program I liked and my POI sent me a great long reply almost immediately.
  6. Sorry to hear about Brown... But being wait-listed can be good news! Let's see how it goes!
  7. Your voice is really beautiful! I loved your singing! And you are right, the song is very appropriate for admission season
  8. That is great, thanks! Is it you singing???
  9. That's intriguing!! Goood luck in any case!!!!!!!!!! If it's an interview, you'll do great, I am sure!
  10. If they want an interview, it isn't nothing! It is something Go to the "Interviews" board - there are many posts about questions to expect and to ask. Good luck!
  11. Wow, Stanford! Congrats!
  12. I've already asked about that in another thread and I already got an answer so sorry for repeating it It's just that this tenure thing is still confusing to me So associate professor means tenured professor, but not always?? How do I know if my POI, who is an associate professor, is tenured? I would not like to ask it directly... I might ask a student from their department, I guess.... Another thing - if an associate prof and just professor are both tenured - what's the difference? Full professor must be cooler, I get that. And what about details? Do professors get more money, have more priveledges than associate professors?
  13. So they are still making decisions in the Department of Communication Arts? I know that they've already made them in my track (Media and Cultural Studies) and in was in the beginning of February, and also in Communication Science (I know that from a thread on the "Communications" board that in this track they have already accepted people they wanted).
  14. Not a very cheerful post
  15. Well, it's hard to say... It can mean an interview or they may have just lost this info and needed if for your file... Only the time will show Good luck anyways!
  16. Yes, you are right, department ranking is more important. There were threads about that somewhere on the forum and the consensus on this issue was unanimous, as far as I remember.
  17. I think after one week only it's too early. I would wait for at least two weeks, three would be prefect. Different schools have different procedures so if one school admitted you three days after the interview it does mean that it is a rule. You thanked profs, they know that you are interested so just sit tight and do not run the risk of annoying them
  18. Ha, I've been thinking about that lately! I am going to buy a return ticket and then not use it. I am afraid that buying an open return ticket may be more expensive that a regular return ticket and even without that I will pay plenty for my trip! And using the return ticket is also not an option. I want to go back home next summer (2012, I mean) and I can't buy a ticket for this time just yet...
  19. An advice from somebody who had the same problem - that is me Had - like in the past - because I don't have it any more, or just a tiny bit I was really shy for a long time but I found out that: 1) If you face your fear or insecurity - again and again and again - it will gradually fade away. Trying to strike up a conversation with strangers, you may make some mistakes first but just tell yourself that it is part of a process, that you are learning and that negative experience is also useful. 2) One thing that I've learned is that feeling secure is about acting secure. I might be a bit afraid talking with people I do not know, but I just don't let it show. And after awhile when I get used to these people, the feeling of security comes back. That leads to the next point. 3) Many, many people are somewhat insecure, they just do not reveal that Are you worse than them? Of couse not! Just learn the tricks Smile, be polite, do not speak too quickly or too slowly, act natural. Aquiring the skill of approaching strangers may seem hard but it's totally doable
  20. Definetely send something. Your gratitude does not have anythingto do with their decisions, right? You are thankful because they spent their time talking to you, answering your questions about the program, etc.
  21. Thanks a lot for the advice!
  22. Hm, it's the second post I'm reading about Wisconsin's financial problems. I am just curious - why this state? Is financial situation there worse than in other parts of America?? Could somebody explain that to me? I mean, I thought that financial crisis had hit all states equally...
