I'm afraid if all applicants are poking poor adcoms, they will soon get furious and decide to admit no one as a terrible revengre

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation! Very interesting

Why is that? I am just curious I am not a Star Trek fan but I am going to study some aspects of television and I know what a great cultual impact Star Trek has had. So just wondering. By the way, I like your signature Perhaps I need to add that I am not an American so Star Trek is not a part of MY culture. But I am very interested in American culture, especially popular, hence the question. And I have not seen Enterprise. I know that it was cancelled, though.

That is a great story! Thank you for telling it, Zouzax!

I very much hope so!

Actually, I've heard that GRE and GPA can still be used when a graduate student applies for some fellowships. Not sure how true that is. Any thoughts?

Or may be they just have some kind of spiritual link and get the same ideas, like twins, you know

Columbia 1000 word SoP
Strangefox replied to flowerchild's topic in Statement of Purpose, Personal History, Diversity
You may include the same things, just in a more concise way. If there are some hooks and embellishments in your longer SOP, they must be the first to go. Make sure that you leave only pertinent information. It's hard to tell more without actually seeing your SOP. -

Lot of People with Missing Recommendations
Strangefox replied to Viking's topic in Letters of Recommendation
Depends on a school, I guess. It it's very competitive and they never get one of reference letters they will trash the app, I guess. But they can also contact an applicant and inform them that their app is incomplete. If you are not sure if all letters reached your schools, just contact schools and ask them. If you know that one of your profs has not submitted their letter yet, contact your schools and notify them about the situation, then email/call your recommender and ask very politely to submit the letter asap. -
Or, to put it in other words, procrastinating students grow into procrastinating profs
-
Yeah, do not panic. Have you already emailed grad secretaries? Have they answered? I am sure they will. Perhaps you can also call those that won't answer in a day or two. Just be calm and polite and they will definetely help you. Good luck!

I have synesthesia too! I love being able to see colors of letters and texture of words. I have very good imagination. Sometimes it's great but it can be also terrible because when I imagine something bad happening, that's like it is really happening and for a moment or two I totally believe it. So I try not to do that Every night I see great dreams. That is why I love sleeping On the other hand, when I am nervous, I see very bad nightmares. I saw nightmares almost every night during the two month when I was finishing my applications. But now it's over, thank God. Oh, and I sometimes write poetry. In my mother tongue, not in English. I have even had several poems published. I can speak several languages, not all of them very well, but I keep improving because I study every day. Learning foreign languages is my main hobby. I am cool with snakes and mice but I am terribly afraid of spiders!!

Have you tried calling the professor instead just writing emails? You need to know what's going on. May be something bad has happened and he/she is in a hospital (God forbid)? If you can't reach the professor at home, try calling his/her department. There definetely are ways to know what the problem is. And if I were you, I would try to find it out asap.

Does Berkeley's online app have room for writing sample?
Strangefox replied to GK Chesterton's topic in Writing Samples
That is just mean! Do they have some kind of printing paper shortage??? At Berkeley??? Gr! -
May be they are going to accept you! Anyway, I guess some admission committees just have not met yet - and will do so only in the beginning of 2011.

I believe that even if they require a CV on their website that still might not be the only option. Confusion created by schools' online instructions is legendary Considering your situation, I would try contacting the grad secratary from the schools that requires a CV (just email them) and asking if sending a resume instead would be fine. The chances are high that it would and then you won't have to rack your brains!
-
Well, your CV will be kind of short, then... May be you can send a resume instead of a CV. May be that would be more reasonable. Some schools ask for any of those. While in a CV you can put only academic stuff, a resume can contain more diverse information about your experiences. I am sure you have some nonacademic experiences that you can include in it. Projects accomplished at work? Language skills?

I am afraid not. On all my online apps they asked also for a date of the test. If you took GRE twice (let's call these two attempts A and B ) and you will plug in quant score from A and verbal + AW from B (for instance) then either you write the date when you took test A or the date you took the test B, in both cases you will be technically lying and confusing ad comms. Even if the online app does not ask for the date (and I am yet to encounter such app), I would assume they need scores from one test, not a combination from several tests. Just my opinion.
