  1. Hello! Is anyone here still waiting to hear back from NYU MCC? I have already accepted another offer, but I am just wondering why they haven't yet told me anything about the status of my application: no waitlist or rejection! And it is so annoying!! So if anyone is in the same boat....
  2. I had applied to the Screen Cultures program there. Yep, heard back on Sat. A rejection, as expected since I did not get an interview call earlier.
  3. This is wonderful news-- congratulations on making it to NYU!!! It seems like a very robust program. Thanks for sharing details about your process as well. Since I didn't get any info from them, and I see that some people also got waitlisted yesterday... I will assume that it is a rejection, hopefully coming soon. I just need to know officially from them, so as to accept my other offer. ?
  4. Hello! Did anyone hear back the final result from Northwestern's Screen Cultures program?
  5. I see rejections posted by CUNY, but I didn't get one yet?! Waves of rejection? But anyway, haha, to join the reading of tea leaves... I'm interested in the relationship between films/ popular culture and queer feminist theory regarding questions of desire and fantasy. My focus is desire, and its uneasy relationship with "politics," using an archive of films (and debates around them), cultural blow ups and queer feminist theory.
  6. In the same boat!! I am also so perplexed! Are you an international applicant? I also got no interview invite... but also haven't received the rejection yet. Don't know what it means. ?
  7. Good luck!! Yes, I did get a call of acceptance from the DGS on Wednesday night my time.
  8. Congratulations!! And yes, I think it should be legit. The delay probably just means that they are waiting on some funding confirmations or something. That's how it was for UIUC for me-- unofficial confirmation came first, and then an official letter.
  9. I haven't heard anything either. But then, I assume that it's just taking more time. After all, Tuesday is the timeline that the grad students had given us, not the faculty? But let's hope that we hear back soon!
  10. From what I can see on the results page here, interview invites have already been sent out for NYU MCC. I didn't get one. ? Total bummer coz I had really productive conversations with my PoI there. (and paid extra money to get ECE evals done for my transcript lol -_-).
  11. Oh dear! That's so messed up. But yes, also from my experience from last year... with their Comp Lit program... same thing happened. PoI that I was in touch with told me that they offered admission to one person, who did not take it up... and they did not then move on to anyone else... which doesn't make sense?! So my guess is that they are simply too stretched for funding to admit people in a transparent manner... Which is so unfortunate coz Rutgers has some amazing people!
  12. Hi! Just saw an interview invite post in the results page for NYU MCC. Congrats to the person!!! Anyone here to claim it? Just wanted to know if this was an email from the PoI or DGS... and whether there was anything mentioned as to how many candidates will be interviewed.
  13. Thanks a lot for telling us this!! Well well, look forward to whatever the outcome will be then. Hopefully this week! Goodluck to you as well as us, others-- I hope it's a good news for us.
  14. Thanks you for sharing that info! If you were introduced to other candidates for Rutgers, could you share how many were interviewed?
  15. Absolutely-- I can say this over and over again to any PhD aspirant. That a rejection is hardly ever about you. Last year, I got rejected from all the programs that I applied to. Even when, at the two of those programs, people were quite excited about me on the email. In one case, the DGS, who was also my PoI, encouraged me quite specifically to apply and suggested other faculty members who would be great mentors for my project. But ultimately, it turned out to be an issue of limited funding... they offered admission to only one person among the applicant pool, who also didn't accept... so they basically admitted no new student last year. In case of the other, after the results, my PoI wrote to me saying how surprised she was that my application didn't make it to the shortlist and encouraged me to apply again this year. So, you know... it is a host of factors... Sometimes to the extent that you are fabulous and your project is super-interesting... but it just might seem out of fashion in specific departments. Or, that in the last few years, they admitted too many students working in the same field of interest. So decided this year to pick someone working from a different lens. It is just a culmination of too many reasons that you can hardly predict. Good time to remind ourselves, given that many schools will be making their decisions in the coming weeks. Nevertheless, good luck to all of us!
  16. Right. I just searched the full string "University of California Berkeley Film Studies" and finally got it. Gradcafe search mechanism is quite funny lol "UC Berkeley Film Studies" wasn't showing it. Anyway, same... I had no specific hopes, even though I think I have a great match with the program (my writing sample had much to do with Mary Ann Doane's work on desire)... but even though people there were enthusiastic about my project, they had clearly said that funding for international students is *severely* limited. So I stopped thinking about it much :P.
  17. Oh really? Could you please point out what search terms you used or link the results page for this? I just tried searching "uc berkeley film studies/ uc berkeley film and media studies" ... it only shows me results as old as ones from 2018. In any case, I also did not hear back from them. Must mean then it is a rejection?! ?
  18. Hey hey! Hang in there! This is my second year too... and last year was full of just rejections. Don't lose hope is definitely what I will say at this point. But also, I think it is good to remember that getting into or not getting into a program is never a marker of our caliber or how good we are as candidates. One thing that I learnt from last year's experience is that it's just so much also about luck and what the departmental priorities are each year. At the end, most schools get over 100 applications each cycle... and after all, only 4-5 are selected on an average (or even fewer!). So it is really not about us... I hope that you get accepted into one of the programs of your choice. But in case you decide to follow a different path, know that there are so many other ways in which you can use your talent to do something good.
  19. Absolutely! I think if anybody is planning to write, you can do that if you are writing to a graduate assistant for the department. But profs... not DGS... not PoI. I am waiting for it too... no news yet. I think someone posted about an interview on the results page, which means they have probably send out all the interview invites (since, I think they normally interview all finalists...). I fear that this means bad news for me, so I've stopped thinking about Northwestern at all. But let's see.... fingers crossed that this doesn't mean anything, and that we will hear back from them soon.
  20. Yes, fingers crossed! From previous years' data, it seems that their interview offers should come in this week. Hope that we are going to hear the good news soon.
