  1. I guess it could be that. But also, who knows... it could be just their way of telling that everything will be done by March, so don't contact us again before that. And maybe they will actually start sending out at least their acceptances in Feb?! Let's see. Good luck to us! Although I've stopped thinking about UCB now.. given that they have massive funding issues, which is already very limited for international students anyway. So not counting on it...
  2. I had written to UC Berkeley people a while back for the Film and Media Studies results. They said they will notify by early March. But going from the previous years' results, they start notifying by mid-Feb, I think.
  3. Thanks! As you do your research topic, pertinent and important Yes, I am certainly interested in looking at films as part of my archive to look at this relation. But I am also interested in parsing this out from debates within recent queer feminist movements, including MeToo, and some public controversies in India.
  4. Oh wow! Sounds like so many overlaps between our respective areas of interest. Mine are: psychoanalysis, queer feminist theory, film theory/ media studies and somewhere lurks behind in all of this: Foucault, and especially his late work on ethics of the self. Thanks for starting this thread in general. I got accepted to UIUC's Comp Lit program (which I am quite happy about). Other Comp Lit program I applied to was Duke's Literature and I am dreading a rejection by them any day. Other programs that I applied to are all interdisciplinary: University at Bufallo's Global Gender Studies (where I got accepted with no funding :/); University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's English (Media, Cinema and Digital Studies track; where I got accepted with no funding again ? ). Have any interview with Emory's WGSS next week. And waiting to hear fro Northwestern, NYU, Rutgers, UCB, CUNY and UCLA. (<-none of these are Comp Lit programs)
  5. Thanks for initiating this conversation. My research interests, at one level, are much more theoretical and abstract, hehe. But I am interested in thinking about questions of desire and its fraught relationship to politics, and what's been queer feminist theory's relationship to the travails of desire and complex terrain of fantasy.
  6. That's so sad. But well, I guess that is public universities for you... I really have no clue as to why I applied to both UCB and UCLA
  7. Yes! I learned this lesson last year ... to not apply to UC schools as an international student... and well, repeated the mistake again: applied to Berkeley as well as UCLA. And Berkeley PoI expressly told me also though... that they would like to work with me if accepted... and that the department has right mix of faculty to support a project like mine... BUT "we usually have very limited funding, and more so for international students." ?
  8. Also, did anyone apply to CUNY English program? Heard anything?
  9. This is SUPER HELPFUL! Thanks so much for putting this together and sharing your own experience. I have an interview coming up next week and I really needed this!
  10. Anybody here to claim the interview invite from Screen Cultures program at Northwestern?
  11. Thank you!!
  12. Anyone here to claim the interview invite to Northwestern's Screen Cultures program? Congratulations in advance! It will be great what the email said.
  13. This is awesome! Congratulations! I guess they do interview candidates after all. Please do post how your interview goes-- good luck!! May I ask what your area of interest within the field is?
  14. Hi! What FB group is this?
  15. For some strange reason, while I do feel better with an acceptance, I am still very nervous and checking this portal obsessively. ?
  16. Ahan! Yes, I was finishing my MA in New York and rushed back to India on the last flight that was going that was allowed to enter India from the U.S. Such madness!! Much of my stuff is still in New York, including several of my books. I hope you managed it better than I! All the best to you as well
  17. Thank you! Wait, no! Comparative and World Literature at UIUC. Just realised that you had asked about English-- oops, my bad!
  18. Need that haha! I really hope we have a chance at Northwestern. It will be funny otherwise for me coz I had a productive exchange with a couple of POIs there...
  19. HI, so sorry to hear about your NYU experience. It must have been difficult to go through that process to reapply... But don't lose hope and try not to think too much based on one rejection. As for UIUC, I received an acceptance early Jan (the poster here who put up the result). I was in touch with the DGS, not a POI (I had written to my POI, but she did not respond)... and well, the exchange with him was certainly encouraging. But anyway, so I guess I am not sure if being in touch with your POI impacts much one way or another, at least in case of UIUC.
  20. Absolutely agree with the suggestion above^ that it is in no way a bad sign. Good luck-- I hope you have a great interview with them!
  21. I also didn't get an invite. Don't know if they are sending out emails to international students separately-- I really hope so, but they conduct the interviews over recruitment weekend. So I am assuming that everyone will be invited during that period only. Happy for the poster on the results page who got it.
  22. Yes. This is specifically what I was told by the coordinator at Rutgers.
  23. Thank you!! Congratulations to the person who has received the interview invitation. Let's see what it means for others. I had written to the deptt and their response was that the decisions will be out by early-mid February. They also mentioned though that usually the offers are made without interview. In any case, it probably means that we will all know soon. Good to all of us!
  24. Thank you so much for starting this thread! Good luck to everyone! I really hope we get into our respective top program. I've applied to UCLA, Rutgers, Emory and SUNY University at Buffalo's Global Gender Studies program. Just got an interview invite from Emory, so very excited but slightly nervous for that! Waiting to hear from UCLA, Rutgers and SUNY.
  25. Thanks a lot to all of you! I will write to them to seek clarification. It seems they are funding tuition, but it is not clear whether this is every year or just the first year where it is dependent on TAship. I should get all the details. In the meanwhile, I got another invite to the final round interview for one of my top priority programs. Fingers crossed!!
