Hi friends. Is there anyone else here that HASN'T heard back from JHU yet? I know they sent out some rejections today and they've already accepted people but I haven't heard anything.

I have not. I was just pulling up this page to post about this lol. I assume they are sending out rejections in waves? Not sure what's going on here. Portal also not updated.

Greetings! I interviewed with a POI from Yale on February 4th, before I got an account with grad cafe. I am hesitant to say give up hope though because I don't know if they operate like others (in that you're only accepted if you get an interview). I'm not sure what their status is in terms of decision making. The POI gave me a vague answer about students hearing back "in a few weeks".

Hi there! Would you mind sharing the initials of your POI? Thanks!! I'm in the same boat here lol

What's taking these programs FOREVER to sent out rejection letters? I want them to just lmk that they don't like me lol

Could not agree more! Just tell me what I know already lol. I've heard of some schools never formally notifying the rejected... Personally think that letting everyone know their decision and that their apps were taken seriously is a sign of respect.

    A note of encouragement:

My undergrad sociology mentor recently told me they got into 2 out of the 10 schools they applied to. Another undergrad mentor in a related field got into 1 PhD program, and now they both teach at an R1. These are two of the smartest people I've ever met, and they are both extremely successful academics. I was shocked when I first heard they had faced so many rejections- it made me realize that after a certain point, it's a numbers game. No matter how many years of research experience, degrees, or publications you have, so much of the admissions process comes down to luck (not to say that working hard doesn't matter, just that there are no guarantees despite how hard you work). It's such a difficult feeling to manage when you have already done everything you can and now your fate is in someone else's hands. But as the second mentor has been saying to me for the past few months, "don't worry about how many acceptances you get, you only need one because you can only go to one.

In case you or anyone else needs to hear this, your value as a person, aptitude for sociology, or potential for academic life have nothing to do with how many programs admit you. You are worth way more than your work.

Wish I could save this somewhere. I absolutely resonate with your words! It's beyond heartwarming to be hearing things like this during such a hard time. I have yet to hear good news from any school to be quite honest here... but I've been telling myself that it is way too early to give up. I constantly ask myself why I embarked on this journey and knowing the answer by heart and truly believing in this purpose help me looking forward.

Thanks again for sharing such kind words!!

Congrats to all the Michigan acceptances....I guess I’m still just in shock that I applied to 15 schools and I’m really only going to be accepted to one...I am happy about the one but it is still very disheartening.

Don't be discouraged! As everyone has been saying, this cycle is EXTRA tough and getting in somewhere already says a LOT about your abilities!

  6. Has anyone heard from Cornell? I saw some posts about the developmental sociology but that seems to be a completely different program. Would appreciate if anyone has any information on their timeline from the past years!

How many people here have a masters? It’s starting to frighten me about going straight to a PhD from undergrad...seems like a lot of people already have their masters ?

It definitely doesn’t matter to have one or not. Fit is probably the #1 factor here. Plus, applying straight from undergrad definitely means a different set of expectations. It doesn’t harm to have a master’s but you should never be worried for not having one!

I posted a Duke acceptance! Got an email to check the portal and there was both a decision letter and a funding letter waiting for me. First acceptance after two rejections!

    congrats! were you interviewed?

Confusing since I just now got an email from the academic coordinator at JHU that they plan to make decisions 'towards the end of February'. Maybe that's just for the rejects lol.

Ok looks like it's another implicit rejection for me... genuinely hoping that schools can consider sending out acceptances and rejections on the same day so that I can be done with the wait sooner lol

Hopefully you both hear from your programs soon with good news! Waiting it out is the worst part but keep your head up!

Thank you!! Hope the rest of your applications go well too! If you don't mind, how many have you heard from so far?

I knew i was rejected from UW-Madison because of the update on the portal, but I just received an official rejection letter via email. Kinda wanted the portal to be wrong, but I guess I am REJECTED REJECTED lol

Same here. Wondering if I'm the only person here with absolutely no acceptance yet...

    So Yale already did interviews?:(

I believe so (at least most interviews should be done by now). Judging by past posts, decisions were usually made ~2 weeks afterwards. Also seemed like the interview invites this year were not all sent out on the same day so the process might be slightly different.

I think last year they sent them out on the 18th of Feb. I really hope that post is fake.

Agreed. Honestly I'd hate to be skeptical of any posts since I doubt anyone's really got the time to freak people out at this point. But who knows?

Anyone claiming the Stanford acceptance? I'm surprised they'd send out decisions on a weekend

same... I did not know they'd release decisions this early either.

I despise getting emails from programs that aren't related to my application in any way. I applied to GMU's conflict PhD program and got a random email two weeks ago for a marketing survey but the subject line was misleading and I got excited for nothing. Also, anyone else getting ads for the schools they looked at/applied to? My fav is getting ads for the one program I was already rejected from (lol freaking algorithms)

Here's to next week giving us all good news- offers and funding!

Let's all stay hopeful! Next week definitely feels like a big one on decisions. Whenever in doubt, take a deep breath and smile!

Everytime I see people say they found out via portals I panic a bit, even if I didn't apply to that program. I've been doing better at not checking the portals constantly and just casually checking email, but now I just want to log-in....

As a way to distract: Are you doing anything fun/relaxing this weekend? I'm trying out this viral feta pasta recipe I saw that looks amazing and possibly breaking out my watercolor paints.

This is exactly me!! Every post on the results page makes me wonder if I have something waiting in my inbox/ portal...

    BTW Happy Friday everyone!

  17. Hi y'all after checking the results page for days nonstop, I gave in and signed up just now... Got my first rejection some days ago and wasn't sure what to make of it. To all those accepted, big congrats!! To those of us still waiting in the dark, I'm sure we will hear good news soon!
