  1. Yes, I want to say around 12-14 days. There is no deposit which is nice. You just have to submit your SIR. I am unsure about class registration, but I would imagine that we will receive our registration date sometime this summer. Our Fall quarter classes are the same for first-year students.
  2. It took just under two weeks to receive the survey. I would imagine you have to accept their offer for admission, and then you would receive the survey and emails with more information.
  3. Sorry, I just saw this message. I just filled out my survey for year one field placement, and they request in-depth answers to several personal statement questions regarding experiences we have had that will prepare us for field placement. Yes, a car is necessary! Another question they ask where we might be living to try and place us nearby for our field placement, but I am under the impression the likelihood is at least a 45-minute commute to our field placement. Yes, we do have to interview for our year two placement. Our second-year placement is for our specialization, allowing us an opportunity to get hands-on tying into our second-year coursework focusing on our specialty. I believe our first-year placement is trying to make us uncomfortable in a setting we are unfamiliar with, forcing us to become more versatile. Also, they begin placing us immediately. It is on a first-come, first-serve basis. I submitted my survey yesterday, hoping I can get a solid placement!
  4. It was my top academic choice by far-thinking it would be a long shot for me to be accepted, but here I am. I am a CA resident and only applied to CA schools due to the costs of out-of-state tuition. The affordability of CA schools and the expected salary of a social worker make it a hard sell to pursue an MSW degree out of state.
  5. Hey, I am attending UCLA, and this past Monday, I attended a "funding your education discussion." They send out a provisional financial aid letter that does not include any scholarships or aid. The advisor disclosed that aid and scholarships are decided on a "need-based aid" format. Meaning they determine how much aid we qualify for and disburse it during the fall, winter, and spring semester (for my understanding). So it is kind of a roll of the dice, hoping we receive as much as possible, but it is reassuring knowing we will receive aid. They also provide information on where we can go in search of scholarships and potential work-study options. I hope this helped, and most of all, congratulations.

  7. You are in a position where you can't make the wrong choice for your education quality. You have the luxury of choosing from a plethora of elite institutions. I would decide based on the quality of life, cost of attendance, aid, housing options (price/safety), and going with your gut. Please do not get lost in the clouds for it being IVY because all your options are incredible. Regardless, congratulations on your hard work paying off!
  8. No worries, It is all good. As frustrating and a shot at my ego, I will rebound. I am now set on my grad program and put all my attention there. I spoke several times with the head of Social Work admissions, and she disclosed that there nearly double the number of applicants. So rather than beating ourselves up, we need to remind ourselves that we are just competing against not just one year of applicants but two years' worth, and everyone is competitive and deserving of a spot. Keep your head up and remind yourself that you have done everything you can up to this point.
  9. I got an email last week, but this morning I received the formal "Check Grad Portal" email to confirm for a second time that I got denied...lol Be on the lookout! You should be hearing anytime now.
  10. Hello Everyone, I just stumbled across this particular grade cafe page so I thought I would give an update on my grad apps for SoCal. UCLA - Accepted March 3rd SDSU - Denied April 7th I am wishing you all the best of luck on your college apps.
  11. I applied to the three year dual MSW/MPH program. I got notified around 6 pm on April 7th. Thank you! I am excited and nervous to begin my msw journey
  12. I got notified two days ago and I did not get in. I will be attending UCLA! I hope you hear good news!!!
  13. Hello MSW community, I am writing to inform you all that I have accepted my offer to attend UCLA. I am excited while also nervous. Thank you all for being a sounding board and calming presence. Sending you all positive vibes and well wishes.
  14. I recently emailed the head of admissions again regarding admissions decisions. I would be surprised if she does not get back to me today. I declined my offer to SJSU, with the deadline for my decision being today. I am crossing my fingers to hear back from SDSU by no later than the beginning of next week, with my deadline for UCLA being the 15th. I hope we all hear good news soon.
