  1. I knew there would be light at the end of the tunnel!
  2. I got lucky this year - a waitlist and a funded offer from my top two choices. Last year was an epic fail for me (one unfunded offer). So, if things are worse this year than last year - take my example, and believe that there might be hope next year! Good luck to all still waiting.
  3. I didn't apply to Pol Sci, but my UofT online status checker never changed even after they came to a decision. Hope this will help with the obsessive online status checks ... or maybe not. Good luck!
  4. Congrats admits!
  5. I am on a waitlist, unfortunately. Guess I will give it another couple of weeks or something.
  6. I certainly hope that's the case. Because if it's supposed to reflect trends in application numbers, I must say this is a crazy season for application. I know that last season, application numbers went up by around 10-20%. But 800 applications???
  7. You are better off posting this in the History forum. Also, try searching the results page of thegradcafe. You should be able to find stuff. In any case, some people on the board have already been notified of their acceptance to Columbia, and it's probably the case that all acceptances have been sent out, based on past results. And all acceptances to WUSTL have been sent out. Not so sure about waitlists at both places.
  8. There are several older posts about this in other parts of the forum. ENO is basically "enough for review" - apparently if you copy and paste that in a word document, that's what it'll be (a space thing). Also, the downloadable form doesn't mean anything - it's just for you to check the status of your documents.
  9. Based on past years, apparently Columbia does rejections in two waves. Do I really have to wait another ten days for the final word? I *hate* waiting.
  10. I want mine, too! But sorry to hear that you've been rejected. Hopefully NYU has better news for you!
  11. Thanks for all the advice. Hohum...
  12. Ok, I do need some advice. I am an international student, so I have zero clue about what I am signing up for, in terms of cost of living. How livable is Seattle on 15k?
  13. I'd just like to add that if the current trend of reduced acceptances/increased number of applicants continues, statistically, your chances are getting worse. Last year was a shock, that saw drastic reductions in number of offers. This year didn't improve the situation, contrary to optimists' beliefs that the number of acceptances will go up.
  14. Nice!
  15. Did someone just get admitted to Columbia? I thought they were done?
  16. I wouldn't rule out Michigan, as there had been instances of people getting off the waitlist in Michigan. Why don't you ask them where you are on the waitlist, and what are your realistic chances of getting off the waitlist? Michigan funds all its admits, even if you were admitted off the waitlist.
  17. More than ten days. Had people read it to me just to ensure that I was not hallucinating, or giving it an over optimistic reading. Congrats!

    Cornell

They were done as of 12 February. Made 12 offers, 4 in each of the following fields: America, Europe, Asia, with 4 people on waitlist. Was also told that all acceptances have been sent out.
  19. Wow, a lot of you guys are really young! I'll be at the ripe old age of 26. Went to do my MA straight out of undergrad. At 22/3, I was actually younger than some of the students that I TA-ed at my MA program. That was a little nerve-wrecking.
  20. Erm, I haven't run into this problem yet. But I am generally for more politeness than less - already sent out like 6 thank you e-mails to various (coerced?) graduate students from the department who sent e-mails to recruit me.
  21. If there was a real person on the other end of the email, I definitely thanked them for admitting me.
  22. Did you check the form to see if all the required materials are in?
  23. They did have a waitlist last year in the straight History PhD. And depending on your rank, chances of getting off the waitlist are pretty decent - my friend got off the waitlist. Also, if you are looking at time frame, I believe they notified her of her wait-list sometime end-Feb/early-Mar.
