  1. I applied to US phds with my UK master in Psychological research. I have got accepted to my top choice US school (not clinical program). Not sure if there's master's program in clinical psych in the UK though.
  2. McMaster Psychology is holding recruitment weekend for prospective students (those they haven't admitted) on March 9-11. It seems more like 'discussing' things rather than formal interviews..
  3. Relating to Ameonna's post, I have a burning question. Sorry for being ridiculous, but here it is - After you get the phone call from your POI (post-interview) telling you that you are accepted with funding, is this the end of the game and you can just sit around waiting for the official letter to come? Or would there still be risks of not getting accepted in the end? I am worried about this because I am supposed to organize a trip to attend another recruitment weekend in Canada - already RSVPed yes to my POI. And being an international student, there's a lot money / effort to invest in making the trip. I am not sure if I can just cancel it or still treat the school as a back-up choice.. Thanks a lot in advance!!
  4. Big Congrats!!! It is very encouraging news! I guess the situation is quite optimistic once you're well-prepared
  5. Just a tiny reminder for those who are applying for Tufts Psychology - check your contact details on your online application manage system. I just discovered today that my email address part was left blank for some reason - I didnt think to check it before because I think the graduate school would automatically have my record. Only after I manually add my email on the system, I received the notification email from the grad school that che psyra psyra previously mentioned. Hope this helps.
  6. Thanks a lot anthroDork! I think that's exactly how I should prepare for my interview! your posts eased some of my stress
  7. Thanks so much for sharing! This sounds exactly like my interview schedule too! 4 hours of interviews with 8 profs sounds kinda exhausting and scary! our fields might be different - but did you have to read through research done by all of these profs? Did you focusing mostly on talking about ur work and their future research topics or there were lots other more general stuff too? Good luck on the results! Hope the post-interview acceptance rate is HIGH!
  8. U of T is quite efficient actually. My experiment of Mcmaster is that it took them 1 month+ to get together my file, and another full month to organize a committee meeting.. My POI is v. nice for keeping me updated, even though there's nothing to update.. WAIT IS EXHAUSTING!
  9. Hi, Thank for starting the thread! I'm applying to dev psych at Mcmaster. My POI told me that the graduate committee was having the meeting last week, and he would update me the result shortly after. But I haven't heard anything yet so far.. what schools are you applying for?
  10. I'm sort of in a similar situation as foucaultmania. I applied to Psychology at Mcmaster. My POI would like to forward my file for acceptance, but I still have to wait for adcom's decision. I'm wondering what my chances are here? I'm an international applicant too, so would funding be a big obstacle for us? Fingers crossed for us all!
  11. I am not applying to Oxford, but I did a master degree there and know many people applied there or have become a Dphil candidate... It is possible that your POI is still waiting for funding decisions. If you don't care about funding issues, the acceptance rate should be pretty high after interview. Maybe you could directly contact the professor? Good Luck! Oxford Dphil is great!
  12. Got interview invite from the developmental program at Penn State last week. The letter said that POI 'might' contact candidates - I have not heard anything from my POI so far, but a person posted on the result survey stated that s/he has been contacted. A bit worried..
  13. Hey Guys! I just have a quick question about viewing the new score report. Forgive me if this has been discussed before. I just took the GRE early this month and decided to try again with the new GRE in Sept. Based on the new score report format posted on ETS (http://www.ets.org/s/gre/pdf/examinee_score_report.pdf), the old scores will be converted to the new score format for comparison with the new score. But I guess people won't see the side-by-side comparison until Nov-ish when the new score report is out? My up-to-date score report is available online, but they are not translated to the new format.. So straight after people take the new GRE, they can only see a score without knowing their percentile and how much they have improved? Is their a formula available for old-new score conversion? Thanks for helping me!!
  14. Neuropsych76, Thank you A LOT for these tips!! they prove to be effective - when i state point blank that I will cover maintenance myself, the person actually responded
  15. I was about to post a similar topic. I am willing to travel to the states on a visitor visa in the summer to take a volunteer research assistant position. I have emailed some professors but it is going nowhere. I have a few more questions - hope more experienced ppl out there could provide me some guidance. a. Are these opportunities mainly for undergrads? Are the chances more slim for international students - profs might think it's a bit troublesome to recruit you because of the immigration issues? (although I don't really need them to provide anything) b. How do ppl generally find these positions? It is much better to approach profs through exiting connections/contacts? I do not have many contacts - that's why I need to find a job to build one. c. Is there a website where you can search for RA jobs? or do you just go to every university's website. d. how many enquiry emails is 'enough' - I know it largely varies between individuals. I'm just worried that it might be already too late for finding a summer intern. Oops so many questions.. It would be superb if I can get some answers Thanks guys!!
  16. Hi, I did my undergraduate and master's degree in England - I am not UK national though. Based on my knowledge, master program from top UK universities are mostly general psychology or neuroscience. I am not aware of many good clinical MA/MSc programs, if these are what you want to apply. One place I would recommend is Institute of Psychiatry at Kings College - you should definitely check it out! I really enjoyed my master's study at Oxford university. But one thing to consider is that good master's programs are generally quite intensive because you have to finish everything in 1 year (my friends doing psychology & neuroscience at UCL had the same feeling). I had the plan of applying for US phds before I started my master, but I did not find any time to study for the GRE and make applications during my study. One of my coursemate did the US phd applications during the term-time, but he had to skip quite a lot of classes. He was quite stressed out with the multi-tasking. But fortunately he got an offer! I'd say go for it if you could plan your time well
  17. I applied to NYU as well, but to the cognition & perception PhD program. I ticked the box saying that I'd like to be considered for the MA program if I'm rejected from the PhD. I received the expected rejection letter today - it basically said that I'm out for both programs! I'm quite disappointed with the MA rejection, but I guess it's because I've already had a master's degree in Psych. I'd assume that no news is good news, especially if you applied for the MA at the same time - it means you're still in the consideration.
  18. OK.. Someone posted a rejection from the biopsychology program on the result board, but I still have nothing... I'm super nervous
  19. That's good news indeed!! hope they are making many waves of acceptance
  20. Man.. This would be a good time to start working on the Plan Bs. As I sense that I might have been rejected across the board, I am planning on volunteering in a lab (my field is Psychology) as an RA to get more research experience for the next round. I studied in the UK - they have a website where you can search for academic job vacancies in all areas. I'm wondering if there are equivalent websites / search engines in the US. At the moment, I'm doing a university-by-university search, which might not be the most efficient way.. Thanks for the help in advance
  21. I am waiting on the same program as well!! Can't take the panic anymore!! Shall I just email the admission ppl on Monday and get this over with?
  22. I am in a similar situation - I'm more than likely to have been rejected by all more dream schools. I am thinking to email the POI in my safety school to express how dearly I'd like to work in her projects. The program has a late application deadline, so I am not sure if they have finished reviewing the applications. However, I am worried that whether the email would portrait a negative image - like I have rejected by everywhere else and you're my last hope. Someone has suggested me to email, but I'm still hesitating.. Dilemma, dilemma..
