  1. Woo!! Acceptance number 2! Got the go ahead from Kendall College at Ferris State University. It's looking like it will be a fair bit more expensive than the 3 year program at UNL....hmm...decisions decisions. Or one of my two remaining schools could swoop in with a full tuition waiver and make it easy for me. hehee.
  2. hahah right?! I move out here a year ago from Oregon...I miss the coast...a lot. Nebraska isn't my thing really, but the professor at UNL is stoked to have a technical guy to help build things up there. Plus I have a house here that allows me to do tons of crazy stuff that I wouldn't be able to do in an apartment. Although...I'm still holding out hope that I will get in someplace else. I got the Nasty Rejection Email of Doom from University of Washington today...so it's looking progressively worse for moving...but at least..I get...to go...to school...this fall. That's what gets me through.
  3. Whoa mama...I had no idea that it would be so pricey...guess I dodged a spendy spendy bullet. hahah. UNL Is alright...it will be great to help build a program from, well, nothing. But i'm still holding out hope that I'll get into one of the other programs that are a bit more established. :-) But in the end...I'm going to school this fall....even if it is lil' ol' Nebraskey. hehee.
  4. Got the thanks but no thanks from MassArt today. Not a surprise in the slightest after not getting an invite for interview. Oh well....someone else gets to rock out with the ginormous Polaroid instead of me. :-) 3 Down...4 to Go!
  5. I've tried to keep a very level head about this years application process...but...can I Just say it drives me bonkers that on the application status website of one of the schools I've applied to...still shows incomplete. Mind you, I've emailed and checked in with them and received no information back from them...people are getting acceptance/rejections already from said school...and I've...heard...nothing. Grumble!! I suppose, in the end...no news is good news huh?
  6. Don't you love how we each throw 60.00 at these schools and the best they can come up with is a third rate form email? I didn't even get that from ASU. Just the website. Oh well...c'est la vie. *fingers crossed for the remaining 5* hehe
  7. I just checked the website daily...especially since it's about the time when schools start sending out notices. So, it was just a sort of, lucky-unlucky-break.
  8. Best of luck with the ASU application!! Definitely have my fingers crossed for you!
  9. Darn...got a no thanks from Arizona State. Bummer.
  10. I was accepted to the UNL Photo Program! But it's new and they called out way early.
  11. Oh good. That's been my experience as well...but y'know...it's always good to get a second opinion. haha.
  12. Congrats on the Ohio State Acceptance! I have a question...all of my application materials were turned in WAY before deadline...but the application still shows as incomplete! What the heck right? Is that an issue you ran into?
  13. Whew...got accepted to my "back up" school. It's a spry little program with lots of Moxie...I think I can do good things to it. YAY!
  14. Got accepted to my back up school today. WHEW!
  15. Yay! Got accepted to one of my schools today! WOOT! It's more or less a fall back, but it's a spry lil' program with lots of Moxie. I think I can take it places. hahaha.
  16. All applications are turned in *with the exception of a certain school that misplaced my letters of recommendation and transcripts* and now...for six weeks...of fingers crossed waiting. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!
  17. Ugh, I hear ya. This is my second year applying to UW. It is so tedious, but hopefully this year will be worth it. I'm interested to see if my work has progressed over the past 12 months to an acceptable point. Fingers crossed! But if that doesn't work out...there's always the other 6 schools I'm applying to right?! haha.
  18. I am SO glad to see that I'm not the only one who is applying already...I sort of have the same theory of spreading out the fees and stuff over the course of the next few weeks. Now, if only I could get my bloody feedback from MICA's portfolio review and wrap that thing up. hahaha. Good luck everyone!
  19. 29 - Graduated from Oregon State University in 2005. (Go Beavers, even though the team has been tanking since I left) hahaha.
  20. Hey Fellow Photogs! Hope life is well and applications are filling themselves out, leaving you all mucho time to shoot! I have a question to pose to you all...I recently went on a tour at a local university whose MFA program was on hiatus last year due to retirement and other things, but is back. The lone professor in the photography program was very kind and I feel I could learn a lot from her. The visiting artists that come through are amazing and they are a very hands off/let you work/just be groovy and come to us for help and input, sort of crew. All of that being said....the facilities....are.....TRAGIC!! Apparently the professor in charge before the hiatus just let the place go to pot. Dusty enlargers, sinks encrusted with silver and lord knows what else, shooting studio is NOT designed well at all and only has 3 low power lights....so, my question to you...how important do you think facilities are (darkrooms, shooting studios, digital labs) are if you, as a student, are fairly self sufficient and could probably scrape by? Thoughts?
  21. Nice! I haven't been able to visit many of the schools I'm applying to...just sort of going it on faith that they live up to the program descriptions online. hehehe.
  22. How are you all doing on applications, essays, and stuff?
  23. Well, thus far I'm looking at the following schools: MassArt - I can't pass up the opportunity to play with that 20x24" polaroid camera!! Lesley University/AIB - I am an alternative process junkie, so the idea that I could learn from Christopher James...the man that wrote the book...is too much to pass up. University of Washington - I applied there last year...they are holding some of my info...so it'll be a pretty easy application process. Plus they have the potential for the Ph.D in Digital Art and Experimental Media. And it would be interesting to see if I progressed enough from last year to this year to get in. Indiana University/Purdue - They have a pretty new and exciting program. Bradley University - It's a small small program, which intrigues me. I think I could get a lot out of it. If anyone has any experience with any of these places, I would love to hear about it! I'm trying to maybe pick out a couple more places, probably state schools..but it depends on if I can cough up the application fees. :-D

    SMFA

The program was great...I had an interview there last year for the Photo MFA program. The only thing that was a turn off...and in the end it was a big turn off...is the studio spaces they provide are not great. One graduate student enrolled that I spoke with referred to it as a "Shanty Town". They're pretty small spaces blocked in my tall cubicle walls. I'm sure it fosters collaboration and camaraderie...but as a photographer, I needed more space to work than I was going to be given there. It was tough because, like I said, the program seems STELLAR. If you get the chance, you should swing by and see if you can schedule a visit. That's the only way you'll know!
  25. Hey everyone. Good to see the Photo MFA thread is already up and running. I applied at some schools last year...4 to be exact...two that I thought were super tough to get into (SMFA Boston and RISD) and two that I thought would be rather easy to get into (U. Washington and U. Illinois) As it turns out...my fall back schools were tougher to get into (or at least as tough) as the two schools I thought were going to be tougher. I did end up getting an interview at SMFA and an offer for Post Bacc...but wasn't able to accept. So, I guess, my little piece of advice is...don't count on any school to be easy to get into. I'm sure there are those that are, but it might be harder to find them than you think. :-) So my plan this year...is to do tons of research...build a better portfolio...and just refine refine refine that baby down till it shines like diamonds and hope for the best. hehe. Best of luck to everyone as we all undergo the fun of applications, fees, port building, and of course...those letters of intent!!!
