I've secretly been praying for only one acceptance or only one that was viable (i.e. offered enough funding for Ramen). This happened when I was applying for my Master's. Maybe it was lucky the one viable one was my top choice? But either way, it made it so much sweeter not to wonder what-if.

"Is it really that competitive? I can't imagine how that many people want to be anthropologists..." and earlier in the process... "Are you still planning on applying to PhD programs? The deadlines are coming up soon aren't they? Doesn't seem like you've done much."

Well at least we know there are others in the boat with us. I just don't understand why it takes a while to update the websites.

Hey Panda, I haven't received any decisions either :/ UCSD told me the adcomm was meeting this week and that they'd probably release decisions next week (fingers crossed!). I'm curious about Berkeley since there have been a few scattered responses posted in the results but so far, no updates on the website for me. No peep from UCLA either. Good luck with your apps! This wait needs to end soon or else I fear I might have an anxiety induced medical emergency (not really but really).

I almost called in sick today because I was too consumed with staring at an empty inbox.

Hello everyone! So I recently received an invite for a skype interview from UCSD. Looking at the results forum and around here, it doesn't seem like UCSD interviews very often. Any clue on what it might indicate? Are they on the fence about me or something? Or perhaps the other interviewees simply don't haunt gradcafe? Hmm.. Edit: Just noticed another UCSD interviewee in the results section!

Hello! So the GWU PhD program is fairly new but this admit group will be the second wave of admits (as in there are already PhD students at GWU). Last year, they did do Skype interviews. Since it's a new program, the department caters (pampers?) to the PhD students quite a bit. There are only 3 students so far so it's hard to tell the "atmosphere"...work in progress I suppose. Also, just so you know, the program is very theory oriented despite their "applied" status on the AAA website. Hope that's a little helpful!

I was wondering the same thing, although for my program, the department website simply states that the maximum is 2,000 words. 2,000 is obviously a HUGE departure from the general guidelines for 500-600. Hmm...

I think GWU looked at all applications when deciding on TA-ships, regardless if the applicant did their undergrad at GWU or elsewhere. I was awarded funding and a TAship and currently go to school clear across the country. Congratulations on your award for MAPSS!

Yep...rejection came in from that very dream school today. Right after I read it, I stepped out of my office, called my mom and told her the news. Then went on to explain to her how it's a blessing and all the reasons why I feel it wasn't the right time in my life to go there anyways. And I believe it. I got in to another fantastic program who's enthusiastic about me. Sometimes what you thought you wanted isn't what you needed.

I get the sense no news is definitely not good news for BU at this point (anth PhD).

I wish in every acceptance/rejection letter, the Universities would add "Please update the results on TheGradCafe.com so those poor souls who haven't heard anything will have a better understanding of where they stand".

I received my first notification of admission today during an appointment with my councilor. I had tried silencing my phone (which is forwarded any email containing the word "Congratulations" in it) but somehow failed to do so. Mid-sentence, my phone went off and lo and behold was an email from admissions! My councilor let me hop on his computer and we spent the next 15 mins letting me sit there stunned, excited and relieved! Ironic because a few weeks before, the topic of my session was about the end of the world anxiety I was having over grad school admissions!

Congratulations! Now if only they can send that email my way...........................*checks email compulsively*
