  1. adcom person: we don't have enough money to admit you; we transferred your app to your 2nd choice program. Me: OK fine. Who should I ask there to follow up my app? Adcom person: Oh, did i tell u they only had a couple of slots this year and it's very unlikely they'll even look into your app? Good luck anyway.

Thanks everyone :) I'll try to stay positive while I wait for my last school. April 15 has passed and still no word. I wonder how this will end.

Thank you all for ur wishes :) This was my 2nd top choice. They said they transferred my file to my 2nd choice program, but what are the odds? I'm still waiting on one last school, but I'm not so optimistic about it either.

Listen I know how you feel and I was in the same situation last week; mixbag of emotions are normal; wait for the last school and precede from there. I will pray and keep my fingers crossed for you. Let me know...

Thanks VAPHD. That's exactly what I need.

  3. Congrats! I still didn't get any replies yet.
  4. my MS commencement is on Monday. I really don't know how I'll be able to show up and smile and enjoy it while my brain is so occupied with my PhD admissions. I hope I hear some good news before that (I know, I know. before Monday?) Sorry for the too much ranting. But I feel like I'm falling apart.

I have a theory that I do not count it out until I see it in ink. Good luck!

  6. OMG this is exactly like my case! My major advisor was incredibly helpful and he does have wonderful sense of humor and I DID give him a mug that said (#1 advisor) on it!
  7. trying to concentrate on writing my manuscript for publication but all what I'm doing is surfing thegradcafe forum and results page! My mind is really distracted by this waiting process.

  8. My LOR writers are my undergrad and MS advisors. so I already gave them gifts when I defended/graduated. I feel it awkward to be giving them more gifts now, isn't it? Not sure. But what I'll sure be doing if I get accepted into my PhD program is that I'll send them all thank you e-mails, attaching a copy of the acceptance e-mail I'll get (hopefully!). I think that will make them very happy and proud. I so love Lisa44201's idea of giving them coffee mugs from my grad college. I may do that on my first visit home from grad town
  9. This is exactly why I'm hesitant! The main reason I'll be calling is just because I'm growing very antsy. Is that a good enough excuse to bother them?
  10. This does not necessarily mean anything. Not all acceptance e-mails/letters are sent out at once! You might still get one, so don't give up at this point. But the question I'm debating right now, as you state above, is: to call or not to call??? Wish you the best of luck. And to all those still waiting!
  11. Should I ask for my admission status or wait some more?

Ask! If they will want an answer from you by April 15th, tell them you will need this week to decide.

    3. Neuronista

      Neuronista

Yes it does say on their website that students must make a decision by April 15. OK then, here goes! (shivers, palpitations, sweating)

    4. Zouzax

      Zouzax

for sure call. this is crazy, decisions are due in 9 days!

  12. I've been interviewed twice by my program of choice. Last interview was over 2 weeks ago. The interviewer told me I'll hear a decision "very soon," but still nothing. I'm getting very impatient, but still hoping for the best. Sometimes I debate whether I should contact the program administrator or even the interviewer himself to inquire about my status. So far I'm hesitatnt and I'm trying to wait for some more time. But it's already April! This particular school allows each applicant to choose two programs. So in case you're not accepted by your 1st choice, your application will be forwarded to your 2nd choice to be considered. Some posters on this forum already state that their applications have been transferred to their 2nd choice. On my status page, it says that I'm still being considered by my 1st choice program. So what could this mean? Will they accept me? I really hope so. Good luck everyone

I'm not getting anything :( I want my acceptance letter!

  14. Just curious: why would you prefer Baylor to Duke?
  15. congratulations! I'm waiting on 2 programs too. Hope to hear some good news soon!
  16. I applied to 4, got rejected by 2, and was interviewed by the other 2. Sometimes I think I should have applied to more, but I was restricted by location. I needed to apply to schools only in a particular state. So I'm praying that I get accepted in one of the two left! Good luck all
  17. just finished my interview with my safety school. And it ended like every other interview: you will hear our decision "very soon". How long is "soon"?

  18. and it's APRIL!!!

  19. smoked turkey, mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese in brown toast. YUM! OR sometimes I like to swap the turkey with tuna and add some pickles to the sandwich. Also yummy
  20. I applied to four schools: Baylor College of Medicine, UT Austin, UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, and the University of North Texas. You?
  21. Although we don't know each other and we've never met each other, we are all here in the same boat together. We understand each other's pain and rejoice for each other's success and support each other. I believe this is what this place is all about
  22. What would you do if a current MS student asked you to send them a copy of ur MS thesis defense presentation? Is it OK to do that in ur opinion?

      ElectricRelaxation

I wouldn't. I work with college students on a daily basis, and many ask to see my former papers to "get an idea" of how to go about the task. Better to be safe than sorry. Help is one thing...the exact copy of your thesis is another.

    3. Zouzax

      Zouzax

i guess it depends on the school. at my school, we have full access to everyone's past theses & projects. We are encouraged to look at them for ideas. But personal papers is another thing. That's up to the individual student. I think it basically boils down to how comfortable you are with it. If you're not comfortable, don't do it!!

    4. Neuronista

      Neuronista

Thank you all. The student wants my powerpoint prsentation of the thesis defense. At our school, anyone can access past theses too and I have no problem with that. But I'm not sure about the prsentation. My advisor once told me not to give a soft copy of anything related to my work to anyone, but the student's project is completely different than mine, so I'm not sure!

  23. 27 I'm applying to my second grad degree now (PhD). I've already done a masters straight after undergrad and then worked for a while. I feel I'm going to be a bit older than everyone else but I don't really care since I'm still in my sweet 20's
  24. OMG CONGRATULATIONS!!! See! I told you everything will be fine I'm so happy for you I nearly cried reading your post. Now hopefully it's my turn to hear some good news! Good luck to everyone else still waiting too! Congrats again :)
