  1. LOL! Why else do you think I applied in the first place!! I needed a carrot at the end of the road, looking good is it!
  2. Thats fantastic you have options! I have a lot of mixed feelings about the program. I have loved the education but am frustrated with some other aspects of the program. I don't think it is the kind of thing that is specific or unique to USC though so I would probably go with it's quite enjoyable. Before I gave a strong recommendation I would have to think and have a conversation though. I have worked a number of jobs in the clinical world, I still have my practice, and don't feel like it is the final chalegen for me. The leadership part is a big draw I had to USC, it's been a huge focus of the program. I also want to get to teach down the road but don't feel that it needs to be in a major tier 1 university for me so hopefully USC not being focused on academia dose not hurt me, and maybe the name even helps.
  3. You got into the other programs??? care to share where you applied? - sorry if I missed it previously
  4. Oh COVID19, how I hate you. We lost all of our in person sections and need them. I think a bunch of us will try and gather when we feel safe so we can have the time together even if they don't reinstate the official meetings we still have coming. I wish I had a 6 week summer session. our summer is 12 or 13 weeks so we don't get the 6 weeks off, and I too need it. on the positive side, I only have until next Wednesday left for the semester!!! I can't believe it! (it's going by SOOOOO FAST!!) I don't know if they announce completions! that would be fantastic. I still keep myself pumped up looking at what I will be doing for graduation. I want a velvet paneled robe and funny hat!!!!
  5. do they release them all by the 15th?
  6. I'm sorry you didn't get the Bama interview, I hope Penn goes well! Cheering for you!
  7. I have heard that over and over again that it is not uncommon to apply more than one cycle. Keep going!
  8. I love this question! (Where were you to ask it when I was getting ready to start my program??? ) I don't at this point have too much to add, I spent a lot of time reading books for fun. Being outside and looking at what I would have to prioritize to keep in my life and what I would drop. It's funny to look back and say that I learned to finally meal prep only after I started my doctorate, but for the first time I knew I had to do that to have any time with friends. It's something I keep doing now to be able to go for a run (friends are hard with the pandemic), and have any thing really selfish in my life. Seeing as how I don't have summers off anymore because of school if there was one thing I realize I miss it's going to the beach (sometimes to just read for fun), I did a lot of it the summer before but not with intention. I'm working on figuring out how to do it now with the little bits of time I still have available to me. Awesome question! thank you for asking! (I hope more people answer, I'm looking forward to reading and being inspired)
  9. I'm sorry to hear it. I hope we can be a part of cheering you on moving forward, and always happy to have you here!
  10. Ah! I completely forgot about out of state tuition! My take on NYU being so clinical is in the clinical internships they have and the second year focus on passing your licensing boards. I'm with you though, I'm not sure how much of a difference that would make to a 2 year clinical focus. I wish I was more help figuring it out. Let us know what you choose!
  11. if ever there was a distraction that I would like to have, that would be top of the list!
  12. I replied to your other thread before I saw you posted here, I'm just reposting it in case it helps anyone else thinking through their choices.
  13. few thoughts for you. 1) I have lots of friends who have attended both programs, the general thought I have heard is NYU is "more" clinical and a number of directors I know say that they like hiring Violet grads - that said one of my favorite people to have clinical discussions/group supervision with is a Hunter grad and for the cost swears by it. 2) I haven't looked at the cost of Hunter lately but I have a hard time thinking that NYU is offering anything close to the savings of attending Hunter, I could of course be wrong, but unless you have a plan for it, I would suggest looking at how paying back loans will alter your plans post graduation. 3) If you are NOT staying in the city post graduation, the NYU name may help get some jobs... maybe? if do you stay in NYC I'm not sure that you will gain that much in name recognition. 4) One big advantage to NYU is they (along with CU) get the vast majority of the cities best internships. Hunter and Fordham both have good options too, but not on the same level. It is what it is, but a fairly large number of places reserve opportunities for CU and NYU only. (unless there is something VERY specific to your future with an internship I wouldn't make my decisions on this, if you are, try and find out who they mostly take as interns before you decide) 5) Wherever you go, you will probably want to do some post grad training, so the school will mean less at that point. I had another thing I wanted to toss in here... what the heck was it. whatever. Hope this helped. I take it you got into both, CONGRATS! no bad choices here!!
  14. First half of one final is due Wednesday. I need a 48 hour GradCafe blocker to help keep on task!
  15. I was thinking about this again (not having much time off seems to do that to me) and I think having only really looked fully at 3 schools and it was really between Penn and USC I think I convinced myself that USC was the oddball school, not Penn.
  16. Thank you! I'm looking at vacations and planning ways to rest already. We are all looking forward to this right?!?! ?
  17. Of all the programs you all have applied too, do they give you time off? Summer? spring break? more than 3 weeks in winter? whatever other time people often or normally get... I'm so tired and I'm not sure if I have more than 2 weeks between the end of Spring and the start of Summer.
  18. Hi, I'm TL1000R!! Nice to meet you! (I wonder if our kind is welcomed here ?)
  19. totally off subject, but is your name a motorcycle reference?
  20. If I already said this, whoops, but I graduated from NYU in 14', we could have met!
  21. I'm having a hard time waiting for everyone to get responses, that's a long wait.
  22. I both am looking forward to the day I get to start grading some midterms and also am already tired of reading them ? I just got hit with a moment of wishing I knew everyone here better, I realize how little of ourselves is incorporated in these conversations but I still feel super excited for everyone almost as if we were talking about it over coffee. You're on a Legislative Action Committee and are grading papers! that's fantastic!! Can we start a union please? (I know that's a potentially loaded question but can't seem to help myself)
  23. The next post is me rambling... Anyone else at the Psychotherapy Networker Symposium? I started a thread about it to expand beyond the few of us here but seeing as how you need a professional degree I am doubting that I will get much attention on it. Linked it anyhow.
  24. Hi everyone, curious if anyone else is at the Psychotherapy Networker Symposium (on-line of course). If so I would be interested in hearing what sections you take and if you think I should make some time to view them. It's going on now (Thursday 3/18) through Sunday and is 40.00 for students incase anyone wants to join and you can gain a bunch of CE credits. https://www.psychnetworker.org/2021/ Best, E
