  1. I think I'll pass on soliciting my rejection. I'll just assume and move on. I'd rather live in California, anyway.
  2. Me either. However, if you look at the results from buffalo over the last couple of years, the are notorious for not sending rejections out until as late as late March early April. Some people stated that they never got a rejection, but instead had to call to get it. I'm counting this one as a loss and moving on with my life.
  3. Thanks for the heads up. We were considering looking into the Family Housing, but not so much anymore. I am okay with us not being within walking distance of the campus if there is a bus stop close to the apartment that can get me there. Our biggest concern is that we will only have one car, and my husband will need it for work, so I will need to ride public transit or walk to school. I do have another question about apartments, though. I noticed that many of them are gated, including the parking. Do you think that is a necessity? We looked at one apartment that didn't have it, and some of the complaints online is that the complex wasn't gated and that vandalism and car theft was a concern. Is this something we should make a priority? Thanks again for all the advice!
  4. Just checked my mail. No rejection letter yet, though its impending arrival is palpable.
  5. I hate that you can't count on all programs to contact you. Do they really think that we paid to submit incomplete applications?
  6. If a couple of them had problems, I would check in with the rest of the programs and tell them that some of the programs had problems so you wanted to double check. That's what I did with my transcripts and found out that 2 other schools that did not contact had the same problem as 2 of the schools that did.
  7. it might help to know where people live in relation to how long rejection letters take to get there. I live in the southeast, and I have yet to receive mine (but I also have not checked the mail today).
  8. Thank you for the insight on the department. This makes me feel even better about accepting the offer. Though I haven't officially done so yet, I plan to do it soon. Did you live on campus or off campus? My husband and I have been looking at apartments in the area (we want to live in Riverside, as close to campus, at first), but it's so hard to know where to live when we are so far away and will have to make the choice without ever seeing it. If you have any advice about where or where not to live, I would appreciate it! Here's to hoping you get in off the waitlist!
  9. Bdon, you weren't given funding info with your acceptance?
  10. Trip, out of your acceptances, is UMass your topic pick?
  11. No letter for me, either, but I expect to see it tomorrow.
  12. That's what I did. Some of the websites weren't updated or clear, so I just emailed. Everyone I emailed was very nice with their response.
  13. Since we are discussing problems, I HIGHLY suggest contacting departments to make sure they received all materials. One of my transcripts is in my maiden name, and one of the schools I applied to contacted me to tell me that they never received that transcript, only to find out that they did have it, but didn't connect it to my application due to the different last name, even though I listed my maiden name on the application. I was then paranoid and contacted all of the schools to make sure they didn't make the same mistake, and all but 2 had it listed that they were missing one of my transcripts because of the maiden name issue, but none of them contacted me and would most likely have kept my application as "incomplete." I bring this up now because I was just contacted today by a school that has not made decisions yet, but they had my application as incomplete because of the transcript error.
  14. If you are ever in the Savannah area, visit her childhood home. I have been to a lot of literary places, and this was, by far, my most favorite. The man who gives the tours was very passionate and give very interesting anecdotes that you wouldn't find it just some biography. Loved it!
  15. That is almost identical to my own interests.
  16. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo jealous! He is one of my favorites. In fact, my writing sample was on Oscar Wao. The school I teach at now is having Cristina Garcia here in a few weeks, so I'm pretty stoked about that! I can't wait to meet her!
  17. Lyoness, have you taken out any loans? I really don't want to add to my student loan debt, but I think I will need some for the first year since we have no idea what kind of job my husband will get yet.
  18. If you like contemporary, I HIGHLY recommend Junot Diaz's The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that "priority deadlines" were mostly for undergrads who were trying to get grants and what-not, but that straight up loans didn't really matter in terms of time frame....
  20. I wonder why schools want you to fill it out? Hmmmmm.. I mean, I was considering filling out the Fafsa to take out a small, very small, loan to help with getting started in a completely new place to live, but I'm not sure why schools would require you to fill this out. Could anyone explain?
  21. I have not heard back from all of my schools, but I have been accepted to UCR, and I will most likely accept the offer. Anyone else contemplating UCR or have already decided? I am moving from the east coast, and I will not know anyone but my husband.
  22. That's weird...Why wouldn't they just email like they do everyone else?
  23. Well, they only send rejections in the mail.......
  24. Are you definitely accepting it or are you waiting to hear from other schools?
  25. Oh my god. Wow! Congrats! I thought those rejections were a bit hasty!
