I agree with both of the posts above! This is different in some fields but when a lot of your schools have acceptance rates of 3-5 %, expecting some rejections is only realistic. Besides writing out those possibilities doesn't mean one doesn't hope for the best! although personally I am 100% sure I won't get in everywhere, I hope you do! Good luck

No freaking out! I would wait until monday morning, and call the number back! It's not uncommon for schools to call without emailing or anything else, but you won't know of it was really the school until you call. Best of luck.

I definitely know the type too, sounds like an old professor of mine. I checked out your website and I was very impressed! your abstractions are so dynamic. congrats on (somewhat) hearing back from a school, I hope that works out!

oh this is so great! i am a ragdoll owner myself. If I'm accepted, i will plan a weekend vacation to get away from the stress of the MA i'm currently in/my job, and have time to relax and celebrate!! also, maybe some fancy art supplies

Curious, I don't think anyone was actually blaming you, they were just pointing out that calling work that was potentially theirs dismal wasn't tactful. of course it's your opinion, and it shouldn't change how they feel about themselves. But people come on this forum for information and because applying to mfas is a taxing process (for all the reasons you mentioned), and they just don't want to be insulted. It's great that you are in a program that you love so much.

totally! it really took me by surprise, i just expected some kind of encouragement/solidarity from students, i mean, they went through the same process so recently!! but yes, I'm hoping for better this year (if i get invited to interview!), and if not at least i'll be less taken aback.
-
the same kind of thing happened to me when i interviewed at Royal college of art! the faculty members on the panel were all fine, but this one student kept trying to put me on the spot and made me so uncomfortable.

Isn't it crazy to already be talking about next round? Not that I haven't been thinking about that too, but most of us haven't even heard back from anywhere yet! This waiting period is not constructive, it's making me think back on all of these things i could have done differently with my apps...

!! just after I said I was worried, I got an email from the admissions director at PennDesign, saying that my portfolio upload hadn't worked! It is all remedied now, and she was so nice, but I'm pretty sure I jinxed myself.
-
thanks for your reassurance everyone, I will send emails for the applications I am concerned about!
-
That's great that they sent that to you! I've been worrying about everything getting everywhere, but I feel that it would be annoying to bother each school by checking ...
-
Most of my schools are also february and march responses, which means at least 2 more weeks of waiting! it's weird being impatient when you JUST finished applying haha.
-
I know! I found this so silly and slightly confusing. I wonder what happens if your recommenders only upload their letters once..
-
Yes! I am. And I hope so

paintcutter, I admire your attitude and everything you say makes a lot of sense. I also only applied to a few schools last year because I didn't want to compromise. And in the end, the thing that worked most against me, when I interviewed, was that I hadn't spent any time out of school, making work on my own. You are right about the taking time off aspect strengthening your practice, and schools will see that as an advantage. I just wanted to give my point of view, because I know not everyone applying to a lot of schools feel like they are settling. During these past two years, I have come across a lot of people with very strong opinions about when you should get your MFA, but ultimately I feel that it is a very personal decision. Since there is no easy set career path for us to achieve our goals in art-making, and no one knows what our lives are going to be like, we each have to decide for ourselves. As for me this year, the different programs I applied to have specific things that make me want to go there. Haha also, applying to a lot of schools doesn't make me feel like my chances of getting in somewhere are actually higher, as you said it absolutely is the luck of the draw... happy sunday everyone

Yeah, in my experience last year, having recs or transcripts that are a little late isn't a huge deal. Most schools are understanding that sometimes it's just out of our control!
-
Tell me about it! January 15 is approaching and I'm so worried I've forgotten something too.
-
Welcome and congratulations! It's crazy that there are results this early! When is your interview?

This is my second time around. And people have also told me that every year the competition gets stiffer. But keep in mind that people do get in every year, so why not you? I'm trying to be positive without getting my hopes up too high (if that makes any sense) I've been thinking about what all of you have been saying about the anonymous issue, and I decided that I agree, it's so subjective and there is so much at stake, that even if I don't think any of us have said anything that would be to our discredit, i decided to edit my profile a little.

@LovelyPainter: congrats! that's great news. (Id love to know what school when you feel comfortable telling) @caus. Yay! you must feel relieved. I'm getting closer. How long did it take before you got your portfolio logins after you submitted the ucsd application? I just finished that part this morning.
-
oh no! That's so stressful, but I would try not to worry too much about it. It's only one out of all of your images and you never know!
-
-
From what I've seen of students coming out of UCSD, I think you'd fit in with the work there. (more than me actually haha, but you never know). Btw, I LOVE pretty much everything on your tumblr
