  1. I'm with you in that one... However, it seem timely responses are everything we are not getting...
  2. They actually told you that you were the only person in the waitlist? What an informative adcom!
  3. Loved the irony on that should XD I'll join the countdown
  4. Couldn't have said it better! "Rejected until proven accepted"... If you read that thread you'll understand it is not to be pessimists.. It is just the healthier way of looking at these things... stayed tuned.. it could be an acceptance... but before you know the outcome... it is healthier to believe it will be a rejection...
  5. @professor2000 Loool well aging is just a state of mind I guess! @Juliet73 got similar mail from one of my top choices, however they were much more clear and said that final results have been delayed to first week of April.. as always.. we should only learn to wait... this process is a test to your patience, I guess...
  6. You bet.... I am not so sure that there's a material good enough to hold such amount of hopes
  7. Well that's a good thing XD Woow 24 is a bit older? and here I was thinking I must be one of youngest people around here (I am 21, and will be 22 when the fall semester starts...) What is the age range for applicants then? Loool I have a good job... in the career field I want to be in... and... it just doesn't fill me  guess that is why I am applying... looking for something more... or maybe just being academically greedy  Well I guess we all are...
  8. I'm aiming at Graphics... however I am still wondering if that is the best choice
  9. I guess all those "" are nervous laughs... I seem to be having the same syndrome lately while talking of my applications Better laugh than cry in desperation, I guess.... Hang in there... we all should
  10. Woooow! first of all I want to congratulate on such a great admit! Also, thank you for sharing! We sure love to hear that not everything is lost and some people might get that desired miracle! I am just hoping to join you in the miracle department  as I am sure everyone else is!
  11. Loooool Congratulations Big step! I will not feel offended by the computer ee geeks stuff... However you might think that while, we, Computer Scientists are indeed geeks... Everyone applying to grad school has his/her own geekness that led them through this whole process . However you might be right in saying that people in other programs might be better in the socializing skills....
  12. Well while my submission date was indeed almost late (about Dec 13th), black_wizard posted a few days ago that he submitted almost with 20 days of anticipation. I sincerely don't think that any admissions commitee will use a FCFS batch system... (specially if the program is as respected as UIUC)... I mean, if they used it, they might end with a set of outstanding applications that just were submitted near the deadline. At that point, they might realize that they already filled most of their spaces and will have to let go somehow that could be a better fit for their program. To me, their process would need to be more balanced and fair (and maybe quite more complex) than a FCFS....
  13. Well we all share that... Can't imagine what would happen if we tried to put the hopes of everyone in this forum into a flask...
  14. Well I guess that's what is going on probably... I am with belowthree in the thought that they must have a pool of students who have good profile, and are waiting for professors to select which ones they want to support.
  15. Good luck with that gradsh I know you can do it! (If I managed to get a 109, I believe almost anyone can) Remember that while it is indeed a difficult test to take, it has never been impossible! Go for it! and trust yourself
  16. ok that was before... I believe that if we were waitlisted they will have let us know... probably they are just using some batch system, and we are those people who haven't being good enough, or bad enough to get a decision just yet...
  17. OMG XD I was just thinking the same thing... last week my boss actually told me he was concerned with my performance... He asked me if being in all this process hadn't made me less interest in working here... *Thinks he should get back to work instead of reading this thread* Mmmm not at all, at most it made me more interested... I need to build up savings in order to go into grad school XD
  18. I haven't.. yet... However, I do share your concern... I was thinking of asking for my application status Monday the 30th ... (I believe they will be on Spring break next week, and asking this week seemed too desperate for me)
  19. Do you mind me asking when did you received the rejection? Was it before or after the "Results will be ready by the first week of April" e-mail?
  20. What do you mean by "Friday (Rejection Day)"? Are you extrapolating this from the forum where much people seems to have been rejected on Friday? or do you have some insider information on when the UCSD results are going to be ready?
  21. Depends on the admissions committee, however as I told you on my last post, if he has a PhD it will probably be much better than any other co-worker. Also, since he was in academics for a while, his opinion could be relevant for the admissions guys... However, this is just my humble opinion, I would love to hear what others have to say about this...
  22. Loool as sad as it may sound... you are probably right... I was thinking of rejecting at least one of my offers which I will not accept, now that I have better offers... Since we are all in the same boat, maybe we should encourage people to start rejecting offers they will not take as soon as they can... After all it is selfish not to.....
  23. Yes, My advice will also be trying to find academics to write a letter, or at least people who were involved in academia for sometime. A professor of mine once advised me to try to get LoR from people who have achieved a Ph.D. or at least a master's degree, this specially because only someone who has gone through graduate school can have some idea of what your aptitudes are that will help you go through grad school. If you know someone at work holding a Ph.D while working in Industry, his/her LoR could be quite useful. However, again, try to look for professors and academics, their LoRs would probably be much more effective.
  24. I guess that as it is their job to write the recommendations is common courtesy from us to tell them the results, whether they are good or bad... I am not saying it should be easy, I just chatted with one of my LOR writers about not being accepted at his own Alma Mater... it is surely embarrassing to tell them, and we should take our time to carefully select the words we are going to use... however, we should tell them, and I am sure most of them will be supportive... at least I don't see how they could not be...
  25. Really? in capitals and everything?
