  1. Just wanted to say the school that categorically stated that they will answer by March 15th.. did answer last Sunday... they sent all remaining applicants a really polite e-mail asking us to wait a couple of weeks more... 8) Well, at least they didn't lied about answering us no later than March 15th... However, we were silly to hope that their answer would be regarding our applications' final status...
  2. Wow! That sucks... I would have interpret it as you did at first.... so frustrating when you think you have being admitted and everything ends up being an illusion...
  3. well i don't believe this letter to give any reason, and excuse me if I think that someone saying I have "insufficient academic qualifications to succeed in the program." seems rude to me... If you notice they are saying that my profile is such that they don't think I am going to be successful in their program... I don't care if I was the least qualified applicant to their program and that is the reason behind my rejection, however, I don't think anyone could predict the success of a person in a program with just the submitted application materials... I believe success in a graduate program is found mostly in the effort you give in your respective program, and your intellectual capabilities.... And I don't think they can say I have intellectual capabilities or that I lack effort, from my materials... They CAN ideed say that there are applicants better prepared for their program that I am, which is probably the plain truth! and I will be fine with that, because I know I have little work experience, I have no published work even when I have done research, and I know many people out there applying to their program probably has way more work experience, plenty of published papers, and have done way more research than me ... however... saying that "I have insufficient academic qualifications to succeed in the program" is kind of insulting, to me, and let me say, also to the programs who have indeed accepted me...
  4. Well, who doesn't love vodka after all? Alcohol is a great answer, works fine for both celebration and regret... Just try not to go alcoholic or something....
  5. Ok I'll have to take that back... I just received the dreadful "insufficient academic qualifications to succeed in the program." note myself.... so insensitive...
  6. Ok now I am pissed-off, just received the inappropriate rejection note myself This sucks
  7. Loool they probably were... Maybe having so many applications in their hands have made them a bit cranky and they need it to focus they anger into someone... Kind of unfortunate for those who received such a horrible letter... I took the liberty to post the letter in the "WORST rejection ever" thread in the "Waiting it out" forum... and someone that it seemed like an editing mistake in the letter, and that maybe the "insufficient academic qualifications to succeed in the program" was the motive they gave to people rejected a lot earlier in the admissions process.... If you read the letter, it seems, possible... however if it is a mistake, it was horrible... and if they did send rejection mail with that on purpose (even to early rejected applicants) it is still truly insensitive...
  8. Wow! could you point me to where that story is? I really want to read it 8) How could they play with people's feelings like that and then claim it was just a hoorible mistake...??? You are right... that sould be ilegal...
  9. Well While I didn't received this... A bunch of people applying to the same program as I am, received it just yesterday... And it do seems really rude.... I guess it makes sense to post it also in this thread It is kind of sad coming from one of the most respected universities in our field...
  10. woow, that is surely rude.. I am kind of glad I haven't recieved that notification yet... The worst part is that the rejection mail is quite fine if you could just ignore that phrase in italics... Can some of you share your profile? Just to compare how much "more academic qualifications" are the people who are still waiting like me... I am sure I must be one of the least qualified applicants in their program  I'll share mine: GRE: 800Q 540V 4.0A GRE-CS: 780 GPA: 3.66 at mosty unknown foreign college... TOEFL: 109 NO publications at all, couple of research experiences... that led to mostly nothing.. and like 9 months of working experience at a local gaming company... And still no notice... or rude letters what so ever from Georgia Tech...
  11. Well at least for me, having to wait we a known deadline is something, however waiting, on a huge question mark, while not knowing when an answer will come is quite more disturbing... While possibly it IS indeed the best for us (because they are taking careful consideration of our applications), it does make the waiting process quite more painful... at least from my perspective... possibly the word unfair wasn't the best fit for what i meant... maybe cruel is a better one..
  12. You are probably right... However it definitevely is unfair for all the students that are still waiting for some answers
  13. Yep... I know however the results page did freaked me out a little... The funniest thing is that they don't even state when they'll answer in their web page... They totally lack information for prospective students....
  14. Loool I thought I was the only one having trouble sleeping straight for the whole night :S stupid anxiety.... I want it all to be over.. I want to sleep peacefully once again....
  15. I agree with Dontuse... while it would be nice to dream... I guess it is indeed healthier to believe in long waits as rejections.. However, talking from what I am experiencing, and my own decision taking, while i am assuming I have been rejected in all three schools I am still waiting to hear from, and I have planned the next few months on the basis that this will be the final outcome, I have not taken any drastical decisions relying on this plan.... To make it clearer, I haven't notified my currently selected school that I will be attending there, since anything could come from those pending decisions...
  16. Anyone knows anything about Georgia Tech's final decissions? Saw a couple rejects on the results page... But I haven't heard a thing since I completed my application... (Maybe I should stop relying so much on the Result Page... It is kind of evil, and stressing) Anyone knows something about this?
  17. UCSD's visit day was last weekend right? For those who were there, any insights on your visit?
  18. That's kind of sad, but I have seen it happen.... :S there is no creativity left in the admissions process....
  19. Hi! was accepted to UF in CS also... Still waiting to make my decission... I have still some others schools I am waiting to hear from.. however everything seems like I will be attending UF, since I have little hope on the other schools taking me in... What is your main interest?
  20. Ok weekend is over now... UCSD Grad Visit should be over by now.. Does anyone knows how it went? Any news you catch there that could help us in the waiting for their results?
  21. I recieved the exact same email... at least it isn't a reject yet... however it is not much information..... two weeks of "what if" more.. I guess I'll go RUPA[Rejected until proven Accepted, taken from somewhere else in the forum]
  22. We'll I agree in that. However in my case, and as I understand in estitanx's case, we have funding in both universities, which means no student loan is required... the decision is whether to live a fancy live in Nashville, TN with a very generous financial offer... or live as a student in a somewhat smaller city, with a much more recognized program.... Since Vanderbilt is only offering a "more generous financial aid" I guess, RPI is offering some financial aid, but not as good... (Even when you take into account living expenses) My opinion is that if RPI is offering some financial aid that is enough to cover your living expenses, as a student, with NO FANCY LIFE at all.. then you should take their offer... If that is not the case, I will have to agree with MDLee, and advice you to take Vanderbilt's offer...
  23. Well I didn't received notice today (Saturday)... perhaps Sunday? ok I know that sounds silly, however one of my prospective schools categorically stated that they will give results no later than March 15th... oh.. maybe they were just lying or something... probably will have to write them an e-mail on Monday or something....
  24. Good discussion... I will just want to add that for me taking a GRE Subject was a really good move... I got the best GPA for my undergrad class, however.. My undergraduate institution is at my home country in Costa Rica... and even though here it is the most respected Computer Science Program... Probably, no one at my target universities have heard from it... So, in a lot of places that in order to back-up my high GPA at a unknown program, I should do my best in the Subject GRE..... So, I did ... and i believe it was worth it.. I have two acceptances so far...
