  1. http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~ssanty/cgi-bin/eightball.cgi I used this right now. Pretty fun. I'll also compare. What a great idea kglad!
  2. Have you tried reaching out to the POIs youve been in contact wih and asking for some feedback? That might be a good place to start. But like radiomars said, don't forget how amazing you are and how it took a lot of guts to follow your dream. I've shared it with some of you but I'll tell you too: When I first started this process there were many points when I wanted to give up, and then my sister said, "When you first started this process there was part of you that really believed you could do this. It was that part of you that believed in your abilities to grab hold of your dream. Cling to that belief...especially when things get tough. It is that belief that will help get you through. Don't forget that. Don't give up. You're closer than you think." Sending all my best. You can do this.
  3. That sounds right.. A week to get everything sorted. Good luck, folks. See some of you soon on visit days. I'm part of the student welcome team.
  4. LOLOLOLOL def the mighty ducks. I'm not sure exactly how the committees are composed.
  5. No idea. I can ask around to see if anyone knows anything. I just know a D3 that sits on admissions that mentioned that EdM committees meet this week. Haven't heard of anything about EdDs... Good luck to all!
  6. I'm a current student. Shhhhhhh..........
  7. Yep it's true, EdM committees meet this week! You're sooooo close! Best of luck to everyone!
  8. Is it possible to defer a year and then reapply to other programs with funding next year and see if something works out? Maybe it might change your options...
  9. We all have different profiles. I have 3 offers with full funding and no publications. Dont't worry about it... just make sure to present yourself in the best way possible. You sound like you have a lot of research experience and that is amazing!!!! Play that up! Make sure that you have a great SOP/research proposal and you will be fine. This time next year you will be celebrating all of your accepatance.
  10. I would agree with the luck of the draw philosophy. Imagine 200+ applicants with similar profiles to you competing for 5 spots. It gets really tough to know what makes you stand apart at that point. Everyone on this board is amazing and if this sampling is any indication of the general applicant pool...oh my! it is amazing that any of us got into any schools.... You just have a lot of amazing people applying for very few spots at really great programs..dont feel down. Keep at it! you sound amazing... you will find a place. Promise.
  11. I dropped by the dept in Dec and talked to the dept coordinator and he assured me decisions would be made by the end of Feb. Usually GSAS gives out dates of the last days that letters go out for all applicants (meaning reections) so that they dont have 200+ applicants asking about their status when acceptances go out. Im hoping to hear by the end of the week. If I dont, I might swing by the dept on Fri and see whats up. Ill def keep everyone posted since I know a lot of us applied. Best of luck to all!!!!!!!!! <3 Cheers to wrapping up our 2013 app cycle in about 2 weeks. It's been great going through this process with everyone. Congrats on all the acceptances and all the wonderful choices you all have in front of you. You all will be wonderful colleagues.
  12. It seems like they have... All official offers went out on Friday and we should receive our hard copies this week. Interviews happened about three weeks ago.
  13. March 15...probably only for rejections. Harvard has historically sent out acceptance letters around Feb 23rd. I sorta want to ask...but I'm too nervous!! I'm pretty sure theyve made decisions already...at least short lists. What March 15 deadline are you talking about? The April 15 deadline? I'm not aware of any deadline they have over there at Am Civ. in March. Share info please...
  14. Does everyone think that Harvard and Yale come back next week?? Biting my nails...
  15. THIS. So according to Penn's website, there's no "magic formula" for who gets in or doesn't. I think the point is that holds true across the board. Some competitive candidates are your traditional candidates with plenty of anthro experience, some have close to none but have experience that they can translate into the field, and some are a blend of both. You have a masters so that should be enough to prove that you can handle graduate work. It may, however, be a good idea to get all your recs from anthro professors, if you can. If you can get strong letters from professors and they happen to be anthro, i'd say opt for those. It can only help. Lastly, the most important part is the advice above. Make it clear why anthro and why that school, dept, POI, etc. The clearer you can be about those things the more successful you will be. Best of luck! You are in a better position that you believe already having been in a graduate program that exposed you to anthro. Make sure to leverage all of those experiences and you will do a great job!
  16. I'll keep everyone posted. Visits are in 3 weeks. If I hear anything, I'll be sure to share. Good luck to everyone- it's not over yet!! And congrats to all on the acceptances!
  17. Is this for History or History of Am Civ?
  18. Thanks! It seems like Penn conducted all of their interviews about two weeks ago... I am certain about it for sociocultural. It seems like all sub-fields also met but maybe you can email the dept to be sure? Maybe there's still a chance.
  19. My POI told me about some fellowships that I was nominated for and how we could try to ask for an extension... Its worth a try.
  20. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!! I got an offer like that too. I really do think that is super soon especially if you havent gotten to visit yet. Ask your POI if that is a hard and fast rule in your dept. Maybe its not... I'll cross my fingers for you and..... CONGRATS!!!!!
  21. I got an unofficial acceptance yesterday from my POI. It seems like official offers will most likely be made next week. Congrats and good luck to all!
  22. Congrats on all the acceptances!!!!!!!!
