Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school
PhDreams replied to Clou12's topic in Waiting it Out
I hope you get into your ivy dream school! I remember when I was telling friends and family about the schools I was applying to last year and one of the most hurtful things that a friend told me, " [insert Ivy school] , NO. [insert State school], YES. Hahahaha Do you actually think that you're [insert Ivy school]-smart." OUCH. I'm soooooo rooting for you!!!!!!!!! I didn't ammend my list. And when I got asked that question again, I answered, "I know that I'm smart enough that I have to try." -
Awwwwwwwwww! Thanks, EdYouKateOr! You're a doll. I'm cheering for you all the way! Go HGSE!!!

Awwww... I feel the same way. UCLA was the first pancake and it was one of my top choices -
The dreaded "tell me about yourself"... Do you mention what school youre from?.. your current research? I mean, they can see that and learn that info from one glance at your CV. Where do you start?
-
Also, most "residency" requirements have nothing to do about where you live but rather if you are actually attending classes at your home institution vs at another school or doing field work/research. Most programs have minimum residency requirements around 2-3 yrs and then you can leave to dissertate where ever your heart desires usually right after prospectus. <3 Also, ivies have the Exchange Scholars program which is pretty sweet. I have a couple of friends doing this: The Exchange Scholar Program is designed to enable doctoral students with superior academic records to study at one of the participating institutions to take advantage of educational opportunities that are not available at their home institution. Participating institutions are Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton, Stanford, UC Berkeley, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale.

Sorry about the double post. I was trying to multi quote in the middle of my post and it posted before I was ready.

About Borrow Direct Borrow Direct enables students, faculty, and staff with library borrowing privileges and active e-mail accounts to borrow books directly from the libraries of Harvard, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Yale. The library bears the cost of the service and there is no charge to patrons. He's so right. It's a fantastic service. I use it often.
