SHAME ON ALL OF YOU!!!

So many posts, and yet only one person mentioned the GREATEST tv show in history: MAD MEN! WHAT!!!

I literally just received my second rejection (in two days) the letter is right beside me on the floor...and as you can imagine, I was quite sad...but after seeing this post, and its lack of my favorite series, I was like: 'What! I gotta rectify this.' Needless to say, I feel fired up now (perhaps the depression/sadness will overwhelm me later, and this is just my mind trying to protect me from the pain of rejection in the meantime

Movies: Inglorious Basterds, Coraline, Running Scared, The Departed, Dirty Scoundrels, Casablanca, Twilight (and no I'm not gay, I just feel watching a crappy vampire movie can help you forget grad applications , Zombieland (Epic), Juno, Hot Fuzz

And since I am a Nigerian, I will add this: Domitila (movie), Things fall apart (series, very old), Dbanj's show (I forget the name, I think its called Koko-love or something; anyway, think Flavor of Love in Nigeria....except that its more hiliarious)

It has come to our attention that you checked your application status over a thousand times. The fact that you show this much dedication has proved to be the deciding factor in your application for admission.
We are proud to offer you full tuition remission, a 20K fellowship and a 16K research assistantship. The official letter should be arriving shortly via FedEx; we hope you accept our offer and look forward to hearing from you.
Did I mention that if you do accept our offer, you will be awarded another 5K fellowship 'just because', and a 1000 voucher for the local Chinese restaurant. We did a little research of our own, and are given to understand that Chinese food is your favorite.

Yesterday, I received this (via email) from a school:



And in my very finite patience for stupidity and people wasting my time/etc, I wisely (and childishly) replied:

I got an email first thing in the morning:
Apparently the person who I replied forwarded the email to the department (CC'ed me).

I don't even know why I sent that email...I just felt that it was really stupid of anyone to actually send a rejection letter a month into the semester for which a student applied. I am definitely not going to said school/applying there for anything. It's a shame because the school is literally about 20minutes from where i did my undergrad...they may start negatively viewing applicants from my school...
Anyway, done is done...what possible outcomes could come out of this? how much overboard do you feel I went? (if that was correct english lol)

First off...this is my second time around applying & I thought it SUCKED big time. It's April 15th & there are still a number of programs I have not heard from. One school lost my transcript twice, and as of monday, told me that they still had not seen my transcript, but that they were currently processing a lot of stuff so it would take a couple weeks (the usualy crap, yes; but its wayyy too late in the game for said school to be so stupid/unprofessional).
1/12??? This is the worst feeling ever. I gave up a LOT in undergrad, did mad REUs, was TA for 3 years, RA for 2...the ultimate geek...1 out of 12 just doesn't seem fair after all that. Ah well, i got in somewhere so its all good (for now lol).

I woke up to great news today -- my husband and I were both accepted into the English MA program at University of Victoria! After all of those rejections and little hope remaining for being accepted anywhere, we couldn't be happier!

Best of luck to all of you still waiting... I hope you all get good news soon.

as a fat guy with a woman inside, I just want to know who the original fat lady was that was singing? did she do a solo? was she on a swing?

dude, i feel your pain all the word I have received so far hasn't been so good. the only relative good news is that after being rejected by a PhD program, I was asked if I 'would like to be considered for a Masters program.' Now someone on gradcafe said that in his department (slightly off from mine), that meant you were getting in. After emailing that I would like to be considered for the Masters program, I got an email saying: 'I will have your app reviewed by the ad comm.' Now, I'm scared...might even crap my pants
and i applied to like 12 schools...no word from six yet, bad word from 5 and a half (lol)....why do they make us wait? lack of courtesy

How I wish we could share this feeling experience with the world. Let them know how we feel, what we are going through...I wonder if we could make a TV Show out of this...I wonder what changes ad comms would make after they got to see the show...I wonder none of this will ever happen lol

one of my schools was thoughtful enough to think of considering me for a masters degree (they rejected me from the phd)...its the positive...only positive i've so far. I really do hope it pans out.

ps the worst rejection is EVERY rejection without an acceptance in pocket

dude, i totally understand...i think i made a record in most number of internships/research assistantships/teaching assistantships in a three year span as an undergrad. one summer, i did two internships! i was NOT a geek; i was THE geek. now, i'm here hustling for grad skool admissions one would think all those lab work/research exp would count for something....sometimes, it pays to not love your field/research

well Eric1025, thanks for sharing. your story was literally epic. Its never over till the fat lady sings/all the chips are down...(basically: its not over till its over). i appreciate your signing up to post in this topic, it means a lot to me personally, that you took the time out just to share your story. but perhaps you should have read the title of the topic before posting lol...it says: 'who hasn't gotten accepted anywhere yet' not 'did you just get accepted' lmao...sorry i just had to say that, it was wayyy funny in my head. i really should write a script for a sitcom....but seriously though, your post cheered me up. every summer when i applied for internships, i only ever got accepted into one program (out of like 10-12), sometimes, it would be the last school that would say yes...but that was internship, this is grad school; wish my luck came back

yeah...how do you bring that up in a conversation. 'I got rejected by all the grad schools I applied to'...that's not really a great conversation started; too depressing/sad
i would say if the worst comes to worst...re-do the gre (aim 1450; your minimum score: ~1360, depending on your field). bt i dont wish that for you good luck, i really do hope it works out for you.
