  1. Not exactly. One of the POI I contacted never got to me and I was accepted. For the other one, I contacted one POI and got paired up a with a different one at the end.
  2. The Kardashians! Or maybe Duck Dynasty. How about a new type of military history, like "[insert the name of anything under the sun] Wars"
  3. As someone mentioned before, military history is out of fashion. It has come and gone. So while you call it traditional, everyone else is calling it outdated. The problem with "traditional" history is that it's WASPM dominated (in content, not in audience), is very exclusive of everything else. That is no longer the way history is done. I'm not putting down the history that you want to do, I'm just saying that it's just not done as much today as in the past, and that, I suspect, has much more influence on whether departments even have military historians than the fact that are other emerging fields.
  4. I'm back from NYU. Oh my gosh, you guys, I got SO sick on the second day (Saturday)! I had to leave back to the hotel pretty much after I got to history department. With the exception of a few hours in the afternoon, I spent the whole day throwing up. I felt terrible to have to leave but I just couldn't even sit up straight at that point without considerable effort. I am so glad I had the foresight to stay Saturday night too and fly back home on Sunday because I can't imagine having had to fly so sick. Other than that, it was great. The people were great, etc.
  5. Congrats, heimat!
  6. Thanks, guys!
  7. Sorry!
  8. 20 ish students across all su fields. And yes, they have notified all acceptances, we are currently at Prospective Student Weekend.
  9. Earlier i said that NYU had accepted only 7 students total but it turned out to be a misunderstanding. They accepted 7 United States student, but something like 20 total.
  10. Congratulations! Beats the CMU mass mistake that was the other way around!
  11. Anyone wanna claim that University of Phoenix acceptance? LOL
  12. I am not too devastated as I had time to prepare myself since those acceptances went up a few days ago, but it stings anyway, especially since the POI had such interest in my research. The POI at Harvard did too, but I'm not holding my breath for that one either. I'm pretty sure I'm done getting acceptances, and I'm very lucky I have actually gotten some, I as prepared to get rejections across the board.
  13. The rejection from Brown just came in.
  14. I have an acquaintance whose fellowship didn't require her to teach but she chose to do so on her second year for the experience. She hated it. She hated it so much she seriously considered quitting. Then she decided to keep going but not concentrate on academia as the end goal. She loves public history and historical preservation she that's what she's been doing in the summers with a historical society.
  15. Congrats!
  16. I think of all the programs for which I am still waiting, only one (Michigan) has given no responses whatsoever.
  17. So, lately, to pass the time at home away from the computer, I've started watching Bosch on Amazon Prime and knitting a lovely hat. It helps me take my mind off the application statuses. Time away from the computer is good, especially since I spend all day on the computer at work.
  18. A few nights ago I dreamed that I got into UPenn....and it was good!
  19. You'll need snow boots! Warmest coat you can find, and layers.
  20. I'm going to NYC on Thursday. I'm pretty nervous! Also, I've had to buy winter clothes since I had none.
  21. Woot!!! Congrats!
  22. Congrats, nerdguy!
  23. Minnesota decision is up. No joy. The funny thing is, that's one of the two places I thought I'd get into. Ah well.
  24. I also just got the official acceptance with financial info from Rochester.
  25. I was expecting it since they sent out acceptances a while ago. But still...
